Great review. I have these speakers paired with the McIntosh MA-252 and concur with your observations. I have used dual subs before but am currently just using one (#1st world problems). My DAC is a Lumin T3 which works well with this combo.

(personal experience) I’d also add the Line Magnetic 805ia. They sing so beautifully together 😊

bro Love the Sub setup. Not much of a sub person for home audio. Although in my Car I do love the JL W7 seriers.

You have great stuff. Just a suggestion if you can. I have a Rega Aethos, that is a killer integrated.

I have a Musical Fidelity M5SI I wonder if it’s a good enough component to exploit the capability of this bookshelf. I want to get the M6preamp and M6PRX amp but it’s going to have to wait if I step up to these 19s

How do you know how deep they go in room? Did you measure that? You hooked your impression of bass with what it says in specs and that is anechotic room or free space spec, not in room response. As they are sealed box thay fall more graduate in bass than other box types, but they also have clean impulse response. Try to move them around to tune bass in your room. They can go to sub 40hz if you find them good position, more free of room modes on listening position.

My impressions of the bass are based on what I heard in my room which has fairly significant room treatment and bass traps. I may look into having TSAV get a measurement rig for future videos but this won't do anything for telling a viewer exactly what a speaker will sound like in their room as we all have different rooms. I can tell you I have 4 sets of bookshelf speakers in my house, two sets of tower speakers and one set of Klipsch Heresy IV speakers and the SCM19 were by far the leanest sounding of all the speakers in my house in the bass region. I don't doubt you may be able to position them just right in your room and take away or treat a room to get more bass out of the speakers but in my room they were not even close to full range sound without the subwoofers. Based on how most manufacturers measure their speakers (Which is not always in an anechoic-chamber) but in their own demo/testing rooms it's hard to say how any one speaker would sound in your room versus mine but they are a neutral sounding speaker that for a listener who wants to achieve into the 30 Hz region for bass will want subwoofers. Again, not disputing what you are saying just what I heard in my room. I will reach out to the owner of TSAV and see if he wants to invest into a measurement rig for me. It would be cool to have one anyways. Thank you for your great comment. They are fantastic speakers and I loved them with my stereo subs. I am also a bit spoiled in getting to listen to Sonus faber Olympica Nova V towers as my daily drivers in that room.

You can move them around your room all you want, you will not get deep satisfying base from them. Of course many have limited options as to where they can place the speakers in their room, and if one wants full range audio, will require a quality sub or two.

@@willbrink first of all if you want deef defined bass , room acoustisc must be solved. 19 or 20 are very defined in bass, there is no muddy bass like on ported systems. I will trade defined and no very deep over deep and muddy bass every day.

Two subs? Why? It would cost you more for little or no gain over using one sub. In layman's terms, any audio engineer worth his salt knows that the lower the frequency i.e bass, the signal you hear would be mono, so adding a second sub would not make you hear it in stereo because you cannot hear low bass in stereo. Adding another sub is more expense for false ideology. Companies and retailers selling subs would try and push you to buy 2 under false pretences just for more profit. Don't get sucked into the snake oil. Stick with one sub or save your money and buy speakers with larger bass drivers. It's the law of physics and diminishing returns!

Sorry, but a four inch driver CANNOT deliver 32 hZ without serious attenuation. It's physics. Obviously these speakers are designed for use with a subwoofer.

Right, we never said they could deliver 32 Hz, and discuss the use of the speakers with stereo subwoofers if full-range sound is essential to a listener.

You heard wrong, I do say that I am used to listening to my reference Sonus faber tower speakers which drop down to around 32Hz. Which is what I believe you are referring to. Hope you have a great day @Peter Grenader.
