@@auroravalhalla I'm never buying *external* drives anymore, wether they are SSD or HDD. I'm not buying externals anymore because the last one I got died after 6 months of usage. It kept giving me errors that became unfixable after a certain point, and now, I can basicaly not access the drive anymore at all. I can't even format it or recover any data and it's not recognised properly by my computer... Wether you get an HDD or SSD, get an internal one instead.

@@rarespetrusamartean5433 ah i see, maybe not many people that encounter some kind of problem like u. because i also an external user as well and it works perfectly. but my problem is after 3/4 years usage of HDD external, it will broke (boot prob, damage etc). thats why im considering whether ssd or hdd for my external. anyway thansk for ur sharing dude!

The thermal pad is useless without a heat sink. It actually might increase the temps of the NVME, not something that would be detrimental, but not needed. Great video though.

​@@killerthegamer7399Thermal pads are meant to transfer heat, if it has nowhere to transfer, it's actually insulating. On a 2nd look at this video a year later, I probably would add a low profile heatsink to that nvme.

Hello, I have the exact same laptop. Can I use Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD (NVME) here?

Why was it missing the SATA hard drive already when you opened it? Mine has a ASU720SS 500G stock installed. Am looking to upgrade to a larger capacity hard drive but dont know how to do it w/o losing all my audio production files, pics/videos and other applicatons? I see now. Some FX505DT came with a hard rive, other came with an SSD. I'll need to install an SSD. Do I need to re-partition anything?

Yeah operating system is on the thin strip he installed that he put the heat strip on so adding the side to the empty bay only expands storage

I came looking for the exact screw pattern of the ASUS FX505DT because I am just learning Dale's lesson. There are 6 long screws. The 4 in the back, I got from the video. The others I will continue to research. Any help is appreciated. I will update if I find the answer.

Thanks i replaced the hdd with my old ssd. The hardisk was un reasonably slow. Don't know if it was the sata port will have to check the port if it's sata 3 and check speeds tomorrow right now I'm migrating all the files

This helped out lot got the same laptop so iam thinking I’ll upgrade to 16gb of ram and upgrade the SSD to a 1tb what would you guys recommend cause I’ll be doing it myself

You do need to be more careful with HDD's than SSD's. But if you want external storage, they are both usually inside protective covers. I would still choose ssd, because they are quite a bit faster.

I'm now on the windows setup part but I'm stuck with when I turn on the laptop, it does not boot on the usb automatically and it does goes from asus logo to blue screen then off. I tried to restart and go to bios and my flash drive does not appear on the selection on boot priority. Any tips for that?

@@your_virtuoso no problem, i got the laptop on sale in 2019 and saved up for the ram and 1tb ssd, i am really happy with it, i might replace the m.2 card for a 1tb at some point later, but im on a really tight budget and dont feel like going through the hassle of transfering windows. Hello sir I followed your guide and I now have successfully upgraded mine's RAM to 32 gigs I have a question though why is it that the keyboard LED lit up when I plugged the battery in? When I unplugged the battery I also pressed the power button a couple of times but when I put it in the first time the keyboard LED lit up despite not being turned on at all like no fans no disks running, etc Turns out I only plugged in one side in successfully and when I pushed it further in the LED turned off and I could turn on the laptop again Though Im not sure if this really is the cause for the keyboard lighting up or not so Im curious what are your thoughts on this? Thank you!

@@ruoho5332 just be aware that the motherboard limit is 2400mhz so 3200mhz will work but still max out at 2400mhz

Replacing an SSD is something anyone can do as long as they have the tools. I recently replaced mine and there were no "cables".

Also, another question I have is that, if I want to install an additional 2.5" SSD, will the OS in the existing NVMe not be affected?
