    ABOUT PCH/CHIPSET: before, we have chipset as Northbridge (always close to cpu), which has memory controller inside, and it was "connecting" cpu, gpu, ram, and (if the integrated gpu was available on the motherboard, then it was always inside that Northbridge). And second chip - the Southbridge (far from cpu - on south), which manages Inputs/Outputs like USB, Lan, SATA, Sound, etc. Southbridge was slower and connected to Northbridge. but Now we have PCH (which is Northbridge+Southbridge merged together). but the integrated gpu is now on the cpu chip (in early version as separate silver die, but now also integrated in cpu die). btw. new PC ATX motherboards have PCH always as separate chip, placed in the middle right down. But if you take a look at i7-5600U in google graphics you will notice that this is laptop cpu - and that long silver die is a cpu and that short one is a PCH. If the laptop motherboard has that kind of cpu - then you will not find any other separated chipset on the board, because PCH is placed on the cpu. This cpu with pch on the one chip is called Hybrid. But if the laptop motherboard doesn't have that kind of Hybird, but only simple cpu as on this video, then you will find separate PCH chip on the board.

    I have the same laptop model as this one although its a GL752v and the motherboard looks identical to the one on the video, it had the same problem as shown, it's a good abit to replace the mosfet with known working ones and then test for shorts, you probably couldn't see the short anymore since it was an open circuit, for my case it was the ceramic inductor right above the first mosfet you've removed that was causing the short, I tested back with a new inductor and the old mosfet and it worked, so sometimes these mosfets can really lead you in the wrong direction.

    I think a repair fee is ok if you take your time to disassemble the device, analize it, try to fix it, lose time and then put it back together carefully. What I don't like is some KZreadrs or shops that can't fix anything beyond simple, straight forward faults and then they charge the customer like it's unfixable when in fact they don't have the knowledge to fix it. PS5 repair, no picture, they replace the HDMI port and if it doesn't work straight away it's a no fix and the customer gets charged.

  • @SidneyCritic

    @SidneyCritic

    This one is actually a bargain because you get an explanation vid. You never know the skill level of a repair shop when they give such a general/poor/vague explanation of a fault, ie, dead motherboard, and when there is $1000s on the line the customer needed a thorough explanation before his mind was put to ease. Basically the 2 assessment's from the other shops was a waste of time, hence why he need this 3rd opinion.

    @@SidneyCritic I not only explain, but I record my repairs and post on this KZread. Plus, I'm a 5-star rated electronics repair shop. So, not every repair shop is bad and telling that you never know is an exaggeration IMHO ;). There are more shops like my one who care about the customer and love what they're doing.

  • @SidneyCritic

    @SidneyCritic

    @@screen-protector You do know Sorin only films 2 out of every 50 repairs, ie, video explanations are very rare. Sorin was saying he doesn't want to take jobs that other repair shops couldn't fix because he spends hours and they are beyond economical repair, yet he didn't make vid explanations of those. Nearly all shops don't give technical explanations, simply because the general public isn't on a level to understand it, ie, if they could understand it they could fix it themselves - lol -. When you talk to the general public you can see their eyes glaze over when you start getting technical, ie, 99.99% of the time it's a waste of time - lol -.

    The main importance about Asus, is the battery health. So if you have an Asus, you have to discharge 3x in Windows, and 4th time in Bios. You have to do it more times. Then, it can hibernate in 1%. By doing this more times, you can enhance it to high performance. Other laptops need 10 discharges in Windows , and the 11th is in bios. The lcd must be at max during discharge in bios, its coil causes the battery to become strong during bios discharge. You may need to remove the button battery of Asus, that is normal. Several cycles of this enables industrial performance, hardcore gamers will love it.
