A short pencil is better than a long memory...
Sorin takes off the blindfold: "WoW this is an expensive one" 😇
coming from an old school electronics background, i’m amazed how repair tooling/technology has evolved, especially with how you can remove & resolder a multi pin device so efficiently. i worry that that hot air gun may damage components & tracks. surprised we don’t have low temp solders these days. still same old ~350deg C MP alloy as 60 yrs ago. noted that to remove some component, you best first ADD solder & flux when logically you think you should first remove. i’m glad i don’t do this work anymore as visual acuity would be taxed. but your video close ups are quite amazing. like that your comments are kept simple & your focus is on getting the results & not on “how it works”, which has been my (long term) focus. looking at that power controller “typical use” schematic you displayed, i could not figure out the details of how it worked. but hey, who cares, is there a need to know?
This was an excellent repair video. More often than not, I try to look up the value of a device when I get it just to have an idea of what I'm working with. In some cases, the more it's worth, the higher the risk, the higher the repair cost. Or if the device has a lot of failure complaints, not to bother with it. This was a good learning experience, thank you.
Always learn something, always brings a smile to my face. Thanks Sorin.
Amazing work Sorin. Another customer is happy! ☺
Another great video. Certainly learned something today. Keep up the good work.
Great repair and thanks for showing the re-soldering. It scares me how small these parts are, I dont think I would attempt this!
Salut Sorin. De când te urmăresc am învățat o grămadă de lucruri și am reînceput să repar laptopuri, deși renunțasem. Mulțumesc frumos!
Thanks & great job.
Royal mail still have piles of undelivered Christmas cards. I expect your ICs are in amongst them.
Thanks sir, a very good job
Good video , learn a lot from your video 👍👍
I'm happy too you fix it this finggi
Good job mate 👍
Am slowly becoming a student wth distinctions.thankx Sorin
300k sub's bravo sorin
You are the man.
Pawn Stars is entertaining. Great Video. I appreciate that you share your mistakes and success.
great video sorin but i could not see your cursor on the diagram of the power management chip and the diagram is blurred ...
Nice video Sorin :-)
So close to starting that dancing school. Next time maybe.
If the mosfet isn't shorted we are changing the channel name to dancing school............LOL
very super amazing fix 😁
You are very good
"I have seen a few videos on you tube and I trust him" LOL. Good fix of this expensive laptop. That is why the owner wants his laptop back LOL"
I think I remember why you ordered the mosfet, but that's because I've been watching so many of your videos. You put a different mosfet in there and it was unbalanced. The middle one was doing all the work. But in general my memory is very bad. I'll go into the kitchen and forget why I wanted to be there.
You can tell when someone has been doing something too long and is under pressure to go fast, because they shortcut to save time, ie, it's why I check pads before putting a part back on.
Sorin, I finally just had to start keeping a written journal of what I work on so I can "remember"..
Sorin you fixt it this is the one that you can repair because you have enough ohms on the gpu but you replaced one mosfet to check and you didn’t have power so you think it’s the power manager chip. So you ordered one and a mosfet. And I did trust the man from KZread watching many videos (all of them) and you fixt the expensive laptop and we also are happy you did it. So thank you for the humour. And nice fix
good fix
Very Good .
well Sorin you had me fooled :) I was literally like waiting on the blind folded Sorin :)
Now i had the time for watching the full video.. And i have the hope, that your solve of the problem, maybe my solve on the Nitro.... I will check tomorrow... .... I think the old chip was faulty and has killed the mosfet... so you can´t see the problem with the 12V on the mainrail on the 1. Video!? Anyway.. Thank you very much for that many very good videos! I learn a lot !!!
37:35 - Maybe thats the reason why customer emailed twice :D
With my self doubt I think I know what you were going through with this repair. ;P In the same situation (with your computer) I would probably try using another machine for work and in the meantime, with the main system offline, you should be able to watch through all the relevant videos before formatting. You could use a capture card to record the videos from the likely compromised system without transferring any files. All it would require is a HDMI signal so no issues there.
The UK had a lot of postal worker strikes the last few months, Prob why you never got that delivery
@justinspiredfallout

Exactly. I have had looong delays waiting for parts for customers devices because of this. Also, it has had a knock-on effect on all the other courier companies because people are using them in favour of Royal Mail so all package delivery in general has been awful over December and early January.
You have to back up your data frequently and have internet security programs. Have a progress record of each of your repairs.
Amazing wirk Sorin, I enjoy watching your videos.
Maybe you should start a register. For each laptop you receive you write the model number, the issue, what you found and how you solved it. If you have to wait 1 month for some part you can come back to what you wrote last time and next time you receive the same laptop or close enough with the same issue or close enough you can use that knowledge easily.
S is for Sorin… …S is for smooth 👌
Hello... i was about to tell something but im afraid i forgot !!! Doesn't matter . Nice video Sorin , thanks .
I have the same problem on a acer nitro 5. The intersil chip was faulty and i put in a new. The laptop is working only on the battery! It´s like the laptop don´t know that the charger is plugged in .. vccin bad or a other sensing line? I have put a "propperly fuse" ;-) on the first mosfet... now the laptop running from the charger, but it dosn´t know it and it is not charging the battery and tells me i can not make a Biosupdate on akku.... But it running over houres with the same battery status... I have no voltages for the intersil-chip, so i can´t check it! greetings!
Love the while, when U find out, Ur working on 3000pounds laptop😂😂Nice video, TY😊

Sorin is starting a dancing school?!
You do great work. My laptop developed a motherboard issue. It no longer recognizes the internal hard drive everything else works. It did recognize the drive before I updated the bios. Could that have done something to the machine?
@suediem9315
Жыл бұрын
The bios update must have defaulted the settings. Check for the correct hard drive settings, and secure boot if present. In any case, see if it recognizing another similar drive before repairing anything.
Nice work ! I have seen lot of your videos and you always say that a burning chip is a dead chip (e.g. for super IO) with an exception for power supply chip. But here we have an example than even chips that supply no power can be hot because of an issue somewhere else ! Good to know 😉

the chip was only controlling the gates of a pwm pair. One was short to the ground (no charging), maybe it was also short to the gate. But why would a chip output shunt the open mosfet to heat up? I want to know too!

If you investigate the datasheet there is no technical information about this component at all (only two pages). What Sorin looked at was the external circuitry attached to the IC to make it work in this particular application; which makes its repair more impressive (admirable). The cost of the piece is $13US here in North America. Why doesn't Renesas make the information available? I think it's a topic for Discord. All the best.
It's Magic
My Toshiba laptop powers on but it freezes immediately after showing window logo. What should be the main fault?
where do you order your chip replacements?
i think it was the video about the laptob with fan controle probleme
Can you fix the heat pipes
In laptop motherboard asus or hp is better?
Would you be able to fix a sinbans tablet no power
Soring can I ask why you did not take the board off? Because its too time consuming? Thats not ideal on any device you know.. love your work tho
Great reminder for me to write it down.
the microscope so blurry sorin. but amazing lesson video
Sorin I’m a mechanic and I can’t remember what I did last week lmfao.
You happy so we r happy🙂
One month ago repairing daily it's eternity
speaking on memory - my memory is so bad i get lost counting to 3 and --------- there was something else but can't remember now
31:23 so funny lmfao
So...what do you say about 2023.....year of surprises!!??
you need to make a note and stick it in the laptop for reference later on
Cool..
You still need to open the dancing school 😂 you took one month to repair mosfets
Mosfet was faulty or burnt
👍
Nu ai testat daca se mai incinta chip-ul de la controlleru de incarcare! :) Poate o sa se strice iar.
u must remove anti-corrosion layer on new chip before solder

How? Just put solder and wick it off?
Look like under stress Sorin formatted not only his Windows lol ;)

It's understandable to forget especially when a diagnosis is nothing special and even more when you have something new everyday, it's the brain's way of making able to store new information but, good sleep and omega 3 will help a lot with memory.
Buna seara Domnu Sorin ma puteti ajuta va rog ? Can someone please help me repair an Asus R451UA that won’t turn on or charge. after bios programming. it just flashes the led 1 time after i press the power button.

Are u sure that u flashed the correct bios file? On Asus PC Mainboards you can harvest the serial number, MAC and UUID with the FD44 Editor from the old bios backup and put it in the new bios bin file. Did u do that?
@neconeco5022

Salut. Încearcă un blind flash la bios, pe HP și Acer am făcut așa ceva, o combinație de taste la pornire și rescrie biosul de pe un stick
I would like to have so "bad memory" and fix things anyway so easily, hahaha
👏👏👏👏
Soren does not trust Soren :D
I must be forgetting something? How did Sorin determined the mosfet is short and not just open? I am talking about 26:09 . Sorin finds the first small mosfet with zero ohms between the source and the drain, suspects bad, checks source to gate and finds no conductivity. Thinks it is strange. What is strange here? Is it not exactly how a good but open mosfet should behave on diode mode test? In the end this mosfet turns to be a good one. So, what was strange about it? I thought maybe he meant this is a strange situation in general, not about this particular mosfet. But he removes it first! Then he goes to the second small mosfet, tests only the source to the drain, finds zero ohms, does not even need to test the gate, and decides it is definitely bad. Removes it only after the "strange" one, which was good. It looks like Sorin is actually not being guided by his test results, but mostly by his intuition. I mean from a point of view of a newbie, he is not following the testing rules, but ends up completely right in he end anyway. This looks to me like an intuition based on experience. What an I missing here?

You‘re not missing anything, you said it „This looks to me like an intuition based on experience.“ and that’s true. If you’re on this business you don’t really take the time to check everything exactly (unless you have to) and think about laws and rules, your experience will be much faster.

Sorin seemed to have said gates were connected.
@TheDurdane

He did not reset the gate (i.e. shorten the gate with source). So it most probably was active. (closed bridge between source and drain). Hence the 0 Ohms.

Sue Diem Sorin is an INTP personality type of which have very strong intuition. His most dominant cognitive functions are introverted thinking and extroverted intuition (respectively), which makes for a very powerful problem solving pair of cognitive functions. Richard from the channel, "Learn Electronics Repair" is also an INTP personality and his methodology is very similar to Sorin's. Alex from "Northbridge fix" is an INTJ type (introverted intuition, followed by extroverted thinking) which are extremely adept at intuitive problem solving.
Dont understand, why didn't those mosfets also getting hot? Maybe u could solder back the old chip, this lap is not trash lol..
Notebooks with OLED screens are no longer so expensive, you can find notebooks with OLED screens even starting from €700
(31:05) Dance school? You will bankrupt the Bolshoi... think twice! lol. (34:35 - 34:55) American programs? And I see two channels of youtubers from the United Kingdom. What a paradox! ... well, we are in a global world with the internet. (38:14) Harman Kardon sound? I saw your face light up. Did it bring back memories of the late 60's, 70's and 80's when were they popular or common in middle-class homes? Excellent repair. Thanks a lot for sharing. All the best.

I have two TVs in my shop that I have fixed but I forgot to tag them I forgot about the owners. The funny part is that anyone can claim them and I will have no idea if they really the real owners

Sorin ..... if you put your content out on ODYSEE at the same time as KZread, you would not have lost any of your video content
you making every time mistake with new arrived chips they dont have solder on them and have thin dirt or corrosion or dont know how to say that but yeah every time you straight from box try to solder instead of cleaning mosfet put little solder on it nad bum instant solder them. But good job on end ofc
💯💯💯🖒🖒💯💯❤❤

😂 what
3:58 Oh come on - just spend 1minute, to grab a small sticky note, and write on it one sentence - what you did, where is fault and how to fix it. And then put that sticky note inside the chassis/case -for future, when new parts arrive. is it really that hard, to do it?
This laptop is made horrible for its price and spec... Doesn't even have a RAM expansion slot
