Astronomers capture first image of black hole at center of Milky Way, now what?
Ғылым және технология
Astronomers captured the first image of the black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy.
The "historic breakthrough" offers an unprecedented look at the supermassive object driving the evolution of our galaxy. I was able to speak with Harvard astronomer Jonathan McDowell about this EXCITING development. I also was able to get a dang microphone for making my videos! So much excitement in one video!

Thanks for this one, Dr. McDowell answered almost all of my questions plus a few I didn't know I had. Great job Ellie, and good luck going full-time!
You look great and are always immaculately turned out. You should be close to the camera to get your money's worth ;) Seriously though this is an incredible moment for science. The technical challenge of capturing an image like that is absolutely massive. What a time to be alive!
"Ellie in Space" full-time. I couldn't be happier with this Great News! Thank you Ellie,
As always your interviews are extremely enlightening and spot on. Thank you once more and keep up the good work.
Eating pizza, watching Johnathan and Ellie talking about the most powerful thing in the galaxy..... could I enjoy this moment any more? 💫❤️
i dont want to get ANGRY!!!!
The new microphone is a big improvement which has some great side benefits: like seeing your great figure! And finally getting rid of those pesky audio level transitions. Great video on the confusion over the center of our galaxy.
As always, I am smarter after watching your video, Ellie! Keep 'em coming. 👍
So pretty in pink, now with sound to match! Thanks for bringing Jonathan to us again!
Congratulations on your decision to stay with KZread full time. Good luck on the next chapter of your life.
No Ellie, you can never be too close to the camera!
Fantastic! Jonathan brought a much-needed history of the reveal. I've had a LARGE representation of the black hole (airbrushed artwork wall hanging) since the eighties. Ya, I can be "out there" a bit. :) Congratulations on going full-time!!
He knows a lot more than I do. Interesting to say the least
I'm only sorry that it took me so long to watch the whole video. I love 💕 your interviews with Jonathan (he's the dude) McDowall. Good mic too. Good for you. I like what you do. I look forward to seeing you in the future.🙂🎉💐
Thanks to Ellie for the information.
19 or 20 years ago, near my admin's office in my university, I saw a corridor-posted piece of paper displaying updated (to that date) stellar trajectories near this black hole. No fancy graphics. Just shown trajectory arcs, each crossed-marked with annual location data. Emerging clues. No complete orbits yet amassed, at that time, but some about 70% revealed. I had goosebumps upon goosebumps, gazing on that piece of paper for about 5 minutes. NOW... with all this update, I'm even more emotionally loaded. Thanks, Elle, for this detailed interview!
I could listen to this guy all day. You found a terrific resource.
Looking forward to your work ahead.
I suppose the next big thing in television advertising will be some lawyer saying "if you or a loved one has been affected by a black hole, you may be eligible for compensation". The fun never ends! Great job Ellie and Johnathan!
Thanks for getting a Mike. No more yelling at the camera !
Nice video Ellie!
Like your new mike :) More importantly, I'm so happy for your deeper plunge into this important subject.
Thanks!
Well done! I really loved this. I've been fascinated with Black Holes since I was 3, basically once I stopped having nightmares about them! lol Dr McDowell explained it all really well. Thank you for bringing this to us and congratulations on the new mic and going full time! :)
Wow Ellie the new Mic is awesome thank you it was a good buy
Thanks Ellie in Space ~ very informative interview & really a pleasure listening to Jonathan pontificate on galactic wonders. Good job on your new Mic ~ the audio sounds fine. 👍
A BIG CONGRATS ELLIE TO YOU GOING FULL TIME !!!!!!! It’s a cute video about your mic and being in the camera keep the good work up🚀🚀
Jonathan is the best. Well worth the 30 minute time investment to learn more about our own galaxy.
This video is awesome. You're doing a fantistic job Ellie! Good luck going indy! (I didn't get a donut either!)
Love hearing you and Jonathan talk. I also liked the history of the name "Sag A*"
Solid enlightening interview that brings the subject into focus (pun intended).
Most Interesting
Another great interview! So if you’re moving to Texas I guess that means the winds are gonna kick up since it always seems to be windy when you come here. As for the retention rate I would recommend keeping your videos down to 15 minutes or splitting them into two but that’s just me. C
0:17 We could already see your mic, Ellie. Heck...we could already see all of your beautiful self.
It's incredible that we can now see into the middle of our own galaxy incredible work by all the astronomy people there also was a special computer program made to help clean up the image just amazing best of luck in KZread Ellie also maybe Florida might be getting a bit more interesting just a call it a reporters hunch
Ellie, all the luck and success in the world. You definitely are a talent. I never miss any of your videos. Hopefully you will reach your goal of being the "female Joe Rogan". 👍
Didn’t Jerry Pournelle/Larry Niven anticipate this around fifty years ago?
Did you catch Dr Becky's reaction to the reveal? She was actually quivering. That's how everyone should be. This is our black hole and to be able to image this is a testament to how far humankind has evolved. Excited to see whats next for us. Hope to live long enough for the Mars colony. Ellie will be the first newsie on the ground there!
Nice
Jonathan is such a great teacher. He has me hanging on every word. Thanks for bringing him to us again, Ellie. Those images of Sag A Star are just mind-blowing. Let's position some radio telescopes in orbit around the sun beyond Neptune's orbit, eh? If an Earth-wide virtual telescope got us these great images, how much better could they be with a virtual solar system wide telescope? Starship will be operational for missions like this in a couple of years, hopefully. What astronomer would hate working on a scope design for missions like that?
Great sound Ellie! Keep up the great work! Delighted to hear you may move to Texas! Been here many years and love it! Also many great climbing Gyms to practice your skills!

@@ellieinspace I'll let my daughters know as well - they have traveled to several climbing venues across the State - we live in the Dallas area. A new climbing gym is opening very close to our home in Grapevine later this summer - very large facility also! Keep smiling - you're on your way!
I love your face in the camera, your very pretty. You make me smile 😁
Ellie you are an enjoyable peep would be nice to have you in my circle of friends wishing you great success
if you could zoom in enough to Sagittarius, you'd see a big sign with "Welcome to the InterGalactic Metro System"
Thanks for the vid! Could we use the James Webb to capture a sharper image of Sag A and M87? 🤔
Good luck with going full time KZread!!! Looking forward to seeing what you can do when you have the time and flexibility 👍👍
I'm so glad you got a good mic! 😃 Instead of moving to Texas you should move to Alaska!!! You could cover the Kodiak launch facility or Poker Flats in Fairbanks. 🤔 Cheers from Juneau

Greg, I just wanted to update you. Amy finally responded about an interview (Vintage Space) and declined as she is not working in space anymore she says? Anyways, keep the suggestions coming!

@@ellieinspace Thanks for reaching out to Amy. It's sooo sad there won't be an interview. You two would have made an incredible team, even if it was only for one interview. Maybe she will change her mind?
Sorry Ellie, I was distracted with other things..mostly Elon/Tesla. not as important as you)) nice Mic, Thanks for the Interview , Yeah! Full Time!!
25:00 Penrose. We should name it Penrose. And name the other one we've imaged "Hawking".
The new mic rocks.
It was our Original Mother Star.)) I assume))
In another thousand years we will find out that it already went supernova 55 million years ago. Lol
What continues to frustrate me about the whole science of Black Holes is that, if we want to be technical, the picture shown of SAG A Star isn't actually a picture of a Black Hole. As Dr McDowell noted, It's a picture of the space just outside of the Event Horizon of SAG A Star. Since a Black Hole, based on our limited understanding, has a gravitational pull so great that even light cannot escape it, the location where we'd expect to see SAG A Star in the center of the picture is nothing more than a black spot in space. No definition. No contours. Just black. In 100 years our technology may be adequate to take a more accurate picture of a black hole. Unfortunately, I'll never get to see it.
Another name for a black hole. A large collapsed star. At the center is a very dense collapsed star.
and..... maybe a report from the Moon or Mars in the future ?? :)
Warming my pizza now
That is nice. Compatibility Ellie got a mikeeee phone. Congrats. The volume is a little loud , turn it down just a bit I got the slider all the way down and you are loud. just a minor adjustment. Hi Johnathan - Start with back in the day: When I started and black holes were tiny and so was I. Ha come on When the world was young and so was I. Yup we are that old. Neigh on ancient. Are you going to show the picture of the reverse black hole that is ejecting matter? Going over to: The other side? To the dark side of the force? Stars wizzing. Ahhhh relief from pain other than headache. 7:03 back in the 80' is that like 1580's I should quit poking the Astrophysicist (14) what do you know we have a winner. So what are we looking at my friend? The End. 13:25 Mr. McDowell it is a little freaky when you do that. I was talking about the bitter end, the end of the story, the end of it all. I suspect we end up with a singularity and the story begins again. Can we have a big bang inside a big bang? Grapes on a vine - What I am waiting for is the wine. When will you point JWST at this "monster in the middle?" 27,000 years ago Talk about old news. Black holes are dead pixels in the galaxy? Super massive black hole (oh crap I dropped the phone and ran over it with the truck.) sobbing. Stop there is no gravity. The Earth sucks, ha ha black holes suck. Stop. Better pissed off than pissed on. Though some , never mind. Jonathan you are always fun to listen to and we learn something new in the process. Thank you. So what is the connection between the CERN particle accelerator and the creation / life of our galaxy, universe? Are we but a mote in God's eye? Is all the history of Earth but a blink. What do you think? Ellie you do a nice job of cross crafting. The twitter and KZread connection. Wish I could go with you. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. You know that you are in trouble when the light at the end of the tunnel turns out to be the headlight of an oncoming train.
Are you saying you'd prefer if we did not zoom in on the end of your eyelash?
Thought sheriffs were loud enough to not need microphones. The galactic core is a hostile place.
Since you cover a wide range of topics you should change your channel's name to Ellie's Space
i dont like LAIRS!!!!!!
You too pretty to be to close
Jesus, Light of the world. John 14: 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) *said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me. Romans 6: 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Thanks!
