Just a reminder: - Obelix fell into a cauldron of magic potion as a kid, imbuing him permanently with superhuman strength - Has insane calorific requirements and inhales entire roasted boars like they're nothing - has trouble pretending he can't uproot an entire tree with his bare hands because he's that strong - can tow five giant merchant boats at once while running This man could move mountains if he cared.

Mais Astérix c'est environ 380M pour 40 albums, One Piece c'est environ 500M pour 100 tomes, donc rapporté au bouquin ça reste la série la plus vendue au monde.

I loved Asterix and Obelix vs Caesar (the first live-action film). The rest I liked increasingly less, sadly. Too many modern-day references and cartoony behaviour for my taste, but I think Mission Cleopatra was fairly popular, and there were a few moments that I liked in Olympics, in part due to the dubbing. They do show the cartoons on certain kids channels, but I'm kinda past watching cartoons.

Obelix of Gaul. Mighty friend of all. He fights Romans as he laughs. He is a friend to Asterix. He has a hound of pure white snow. He hunts and cherishes his home and hills. Meat and drink does he consume alike villages whole. Rome fears his comming and passing. Mighty legions lay broken at his feet. Fear the mighty man, with horns on his head, and a girth as wide as mountains. Fear the anger of the giant. From the small village in the Gaul.

I'll use this opportunity to share some of the German names. Asterix, Obelix and Idefix are the same. The village chief is called Majestix, a play on "Majästet" another word for ruler. His wife is called Gutemine; "Gute Mine" means nice/friendly facial expression. The druid is called Miraculix, which is at the same time a play on "Mirakel" (miracle) and a brand of Noodles "Miraculi". The bard is called Troubadix (Troubadour), the Smith Automatix, the fishmonger is Verleihnix (literally "I don't lend nothing") and the village eldest is called Methusalix.

I wish I could write something unique but I can't figure something out. I just like this cover. Characters look faithful with their conic clothes; winged helmet, pointy boots, red & brown, armbands, "clown gown", chunky boots, & relative sizes (besides Dogmatix being like 3x his size given that Obelix can usually hold him in one palm, although this is justifiable as a combat scene with a tiny dog makes no sense). The lighting is also crazy good and makes the scene so dramatic. Well done!

  • @KopperNeoman

Dogmatix isn't a puppy, so you can't have him be THAT small and keep the art style realistic. It's unfortunate.

Look how small is a puli. Atleast one where next to two komondor-s. While being out with the animals. The puli has long alerted everyone before any others noticed the danger. Also they are feisty and loyal. If you have one (strictly outdoor dog) despite the small size, it will attack anyone getting agressive against her alpha.

Legendary comics borrowed from the library by my primary school self. Read cover to cover. Laughed my head off. Learned some Latin. René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, thank you. Rest in Peace. Also, I watched the cartoons but later I got too old for films with Depardieu to go to the cinema. I watched them on DVD. I'm not French BTW. Asterix and Obelix comics were popular throughout Europe, eastern and western. Nobody could get their hands on American superhero comics where I lived. And when they arrived on the market, they were horrendously expensive.

I saw in the comment section how people refer to characters by different names, and i got very curious! How do you call them in your language? i found that super fascinating ever since we read the character introduction in frenchclass in highschool! I grew up with the german translation, here are the names: Chief - majestix (from majestic) Chiefs wife - gutemiene ('pleasant expression') Bard - troubardix (from troubadour) Druid - miraculix (from miraculous) Elder - methusalix (from methusaleah) Fishmonger - verleihnix ('lends nothing' - because he sells things, lending would be counterproductive) The smith - automatix (from working like a machine) A funny thing in the german translation: 'nix' is a colloquial spelling of 'nichts', which means 'nothing'. That way, you can get many different puns! My favourites (i think from the lifeaction film with the seer) are: Weißnix - knows nothing Tutnix - does nothing. Languages are amazing. ❤

Belgian here who read the Dutch translations: Chief - Abraracourcix (identical to the original French version) Chiefs wife - Bellefleur (French for "Pretty flower", oddly enough not the same as the original French version) Bard - Assurancetourix (identical to the original French version), later Kakofonix (from cacophony) Druid - Panoramix (identical to the original French version) Elder - Nestor (Like the oldest Trojan warrior) Fishmonger - Kostunrix (From the dutch expression "Kost een Riks, which implies he's cheap.) The smith - Hoefnix (From "Hoeft niks", which means he doesn't need anything. In contrast to the fishmonger)

The original (French) names are Chief - Abraracourcix (from French "à bras raccourcis" which is an expression about fighting with rage, violence) Chief's wife - Bonemine (From "Bonne mine" which means "Looking good/healthy) Bard - Assurancetourix (From "assurance tous risques" which means all risks insurance) Druid - Panoramix (from "panoramique" which is the same as panoramic in English) Elder - Agecanonix (from "âge canonique" which means "venerable age") Fisher - Ordralfabétix (from "ordre alphabétique" which means alphabetical order) Smith - Cétautomatix (from "C'est automatique" which means "it's automatic") Dog - Idéfix (from "idées fixes" which is French expression to talk about having obsessions about something)

Quick reminder that when Asterix and Obelix made contact with a native American tribe, they more or less immediately were recognized as some sort of supernatural figures who were swiftly carved into a totem pole. They were both to be made honorary members of the tribe and Obelix in particular was offered to marry the chief's daughter

Obelix' muscle density is so great Darth Vader trying to force choke him would break his cybernetic hand. And if Sauron threw a meteor at Obe, the meteor would shatter. Also, Obelix can defeat Chunk Norris. Because the latter doesn't want to fight the only person who's equally powerful. The multiverse would die from the shockwaves.

I saw two comments comparing different versions of the names, so I'm gonna do the same with the catalan version. Astèrix and Obelix are the same, as well as Panoràmix (The druid) and Ideafix (The dog). Chief - Acopdegarrotix (Comes from "A cop de garrot" which basically means "hitting with a club" and it's probably my favourite translation. Bard - Assegurançatòrix (Comes from "Assegurança" which stands for insurance) That old guy in the village - Edatdepedrix ("Edat de pedra" = "Age of stone") I can't think of more right now.
