I remember watching this as a kid and I loved every single second of it. Especially this theme. It's so damn epic. Asterix in general is probably the MVP of my childhood.

@@Biancaaaish Same here I watched it in Polish though and then I watched in English but the jokes are actually funnier in Polish xD (The centurion that Obelix beat up and then twisted his ears was called in Polish Gallus pretty but it sounds better in Polish).

He will be replaced in the next movie by French actor Gilles Lelouche

While Mission Cleopatre is more comedic with more memorable qoutes (me and my friends use them on daily bases) this one is definitely more artistic.The soundtrack, costumes, everything. I love how they didn't just recreate comics costumes in live-action but rather tried to make them actually more historically accurate yet you can still cleraly see their comics references.

Sadly the Cleopatra movie started a Trend with its meta references they we're good in that movie but the successors did this way too much without the Talent to make it Work well

I like the way the Roman and Celtic worlds meet in the composition!

lol it's actually modern Irish music meeting 19th century Austrian music meeting. Roman music was worlds apart from the trumpets we all know. Neither did ancient Celtic from Gaul sound like modern Irish

-Fun fact: Asterix and Obelix is partially based in a true event. The part of France where their village is placed has one of the oldest dialects in Europe. Historians don't know how it survived to the influence of the Roman Empire, so one of the theories is that such small part of the old Galia somehow resisted its invasion.

Have you any sources for that? Because in fact, Gauls were for majority very interesting by Romanisation, they all wanted to become a Roman citizen after Gauls war. But im always open to learn.

I always found that mission Cleopatra was a way better movie. it was not really true to the comic, but it was a great standalone movie. then you have the Olympic and the Britains on which are just jokes and awful.

A masterpiece of the nostalgic.

Best Asterix & Obelix movie. I was 8 years old then and now i'm 30 and still one of my favourite movie.

Whoever they put on the drums, i hope they gave them a raise after this.

0:50 always sends chills, just the way it comes to a brief pause before the that triumphant call. Side note, I did a dress up of Asterix when I was like 11 years old in school for French Day

This is my childhood. Not to mention this movie did - everything - right, then they added this masterpiece of a soundtrack and you had a movie for the ages.

Of all the live actiom movies i love this one the most. It felt like the one that was the most grounded one with stakes, which made it more exciting, but was still in the spirit of the comics. The costume and set design was also at its best in this movie. Not to mention the fantastic music. The other movies was also fun but as they went on they felt more and more cartoony/goofy with reliance on stuff like pop-culture songs.

@@dtaylor4552 The main "battle" theme is heavily based on the "Bridge Attack", a song originaly composed by Bill Whelan for an Irish film (cant remember the name of the film) who wrote the actual Riverdance music.

@@carny15 Didn't know. However I would like to team up with Matthew Vaughn and Marv Films to turn "Lord Of The Dance" into a major motion picture set to Michael Flatley's life and the 1997 stage phenomenon.

I also very much loved Christian Claviers Asterix. Too bad, he didn't stay for the other movies. But I also admired Gottfried Johns Caesar! What a great cast, and how well he potrayed the sublime and elegant imperator. I had (and still have at 30 years old) sooo much fun watching this movie.

Well, Christian Claviers did returned to voice Asterix in the CGI animated film Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion. That's something to uphold for his role in the character.

@happy reflection then what are they ? 😂😂😂 Look up " slavs" and you get Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Belarussian, Czech and basically every country which belongs to East Europe. And yes, one part of Russia belongs to East Europe 😘. Greetings from a person with Slavic, Germanic and Celtic roots ✌🏻 ( and yes I know some Russians have Viking blood and aren't slavs but you shouldn't disclose the rest of the Russians who have slavic genes 😘)

@@toha1729 Russian people have olways been Slavs. For your information, their nation is very ancient. Russian people began their existence in the 2nd millennium BC. And so you know, all the Slavs descended from the Russians. As for ukrainians, they are an exception, since they are not Slavs.

@happy reflection Well, if I had to choose the least slavic of slavs, I would probably choose Czech, both by culture and genetics- our historical role as a bridge between western and eastern Europe meant influence of many other cultures (mainly German due to being part of Holy Roman Empire and later Austro-Hungarian Empire). Modern Czech language, traditions and mythology were basically created from scratch during 18th and 19th century. As for our blood heritage we have strong connection to german and celts (info on wiki).

I haven't heard this music for years and years, nor the movie. Now I can really appreciate it. Great stuff !

Si seulement ^^ Mais les Français sont pas ou peu Gaulois. Ce sont des Francs majoritairement, donc des Germains. Désolé mais à l'école on t'a raconté des conneries, comme à moi et tant d'autres.. Il ne faut surtout pas hésiter à s’intéresser à l'Histoire de ses ancêtres. C'est bien mieux que de devenir le mouton d'une société laveuse de cerveaux à la Romaine x)

this movie just sreams FUN. Through the movie, it just seems the actors had a freaking BLAST xD so wanted to be one playing one of those gauls. This scene charging the romans, the "food fight" etc etc. If I were gonna descibe this movie with just one word, it would be "fun" (:

I loved this movie when I was young, despite the tarantula's pool and some other strange things. Roberto Benigni is one of my favourite actors, the character of Detritus was so good. And Caesar was so classy
