I’ve taken astaxanthin for three years. I have lupus and it seems to help my joints. No adverse reactions. My rosacea also improved when I started taking it orally. I’ve had many skin cancers in the past and MOHS surgeries. I have been clear of cancer since I began taking it. When I stop taking it I notice a big difference. I take 12mg and brand is BioAstin based out of Hawaii.

I’ve had some really bad results after taking astaxanthin capsules. After two weeks, my skin turned orange and the whites of my eyes turned yellow. My urine was the color of coffee! I went to see my primary care physician, and she did a blood and urine test that showed my liver enzymes were way too high, causing jaundice. She told me to stop taking that stuff internally-and to go home and go to bed, but drink a full glass of water every two hours until my urine was colorless. It took three days before that happened, but it was another week before the whites of my eyes returned to normal!

A Stanford professor mentioned that the study you talked about finding out that taking vitamin E supplements has been associated with increased lung cancer in smokers was not an accurate study because the test subjects that they tested, to begin with, were smokers. In this case, it would be very difficult to identify whether it was really vitamin E or the habit of smoking that created that symptom. I understand why one would be cautious about taking vitamins when they hear about this literature but I think it's also important to evaluate the quality of the literature before making any type of deductions from it. I do respect a lot of your points though, I am selective with which literature I base my opinions on.

Astaxanthin has been a major gamechanger for me - I take 4mg orally a day. Compared to higher dose Vit C or hyaluronic acid + collagen, astaxanthin got rid of certain stubborn very fine isolated wrinkles whereas the others did not. Salmon is great but is more expensive to be eating it every single day (and there are safety cautions due to increase mercury and PCP content) + only delivers 1 mg per serving. I never used topical stuff...just oral. Astaxanthin has also thickened my fine hair too as it stimulates collagen production (first time ever - collagen supplements alone was not very effective for me). Astaxanthin + intermittent fasting has been the 2 biggest things that have greatly improved my skin.

I love using DHC's Astaxanthin Cream along with my prescription tretinoin. This cream is my "staple". I like to try other products, but this is definitely my favorite night time moisturizer. Occasionally I use in in the day time under sunscreen. The cream plumps my skin and it looks especially nice on my neck. It's so light, yet it really keeps skin smooth and soft.

I've taken astaxanthin for almost 3 years, I'm in my 70's and people, even medical staff, tell me how amazing my skin is all over my body for my age. It's proven to protect our skin against sunburn damage and in Australia our Sydney surfboard warriors take it every day and swear by it. 4 years ago I was also diagnosed with early macula degeneration, that's why I started taking it (after months of research) and one specialist told me I'd have very little eyesight in 3 years. Guess what, I can see better now than I did before I was diagnosed. I've also battled Covid and come through with flying colours. I swear by this natural healer, it's a gift from King Neptune not to be ignored.

Salmon get their pinkish color from eating this type of algae and fish that have Omega-3 get there omega-3 from eating green algae such as chlorella spirulina, so the fish itself doesn't have omega-3 it's because of what they're eating so if you take spirulina chlorella supplements you can get omega-3s and omega-6 I don't know but I just know that nature is medicine and a lot of modern doctors don't know because they're just taught a certain way and to me they're kind of caught wrong they're just taught by the book by traditional medicines not nature is medicine and there's natural cures and natural treatments

Been taking natural algae derived astaxanthin ( as opposed to that made from petrochemicals) orally for my compromised eyes. Can't say if it's made a difference since I don't have a control. As for astaxanthin in skin lotion, it's the same as for sea buckthorn oil... In order to have any meaningful amount of either ingredient, the lotion would have to be light orange, or peachy, since both caroteniods are so intensely orange red that even a wee drop makes its presence known. 🌱

I bought Rovectin from Ammy after I watched this video. My skin feels really good (all over my body) with it, but unfortunately I got a small cluster of cystic acne under my nose/above my lips and on the side of my face from it. I stopped using it about a week ago. I'm returning to baseline and am going to try it again to be sure the acne was from that. I never, I mean never, get acne anymore. I'm 43 years old, and pretty used to my skin, how it reacts to stuff. So I'm 99% sure it was from Rovectin. Anyway, going to try again starting tomorrow!

The story is that certain micro-organisms produce astaxanthin as a protective response to being stressed by the heat and light from the sun. Normally green, they turn red from the astaxanthin they make in response to the intense radiation. That's why people think it may be good for the skin, not solely because it is an antioxidant. I started taking astaxanthin supplements after reading that nematode worms, long used in longevity studies, lived 16 to 30% longer than a control group not given astaxanthin. Recently I read that the same effect happens with yeast, that they live about 15 to 30% longer. There is the claim of one study that astaxathin activates one of the two genes connected with human longevity discovered so far. That gene lies dormant in 2/3rds of people. I understand that the NIH is studying astaxanthin for longevity, but I haven't seen anything yet to verify that (although I haven't been looking for it especially). I've been taking astaxanthin for about 20 years. I'm 79 now, but once when I was 75 and at a party, my former boss asked me how old I was. I told her 75; and astonished, she said "You are the youngest looking 75 year old I have ever seen!"

Hi Dr. Dray. I used to use Skyn Iceland Icelandic Youth Serum with Astaxanthin (Red Algae) and noticed a slight difference in brightness after a month's use. However, I have noticed better results in the brightness of my skin in a shorter period of time using Some by Mi Yuja Niacin Sleeping Mask. Now, I go back and forth between the two depending on the availability of the Yuja mask in my country (Canada). I would like to know what your thoughts are on Yuja or Yuzu and whether there are studies to support the vitamin C content when used topically. It seems a little too good to be true. Not sure if I am getting more benefit from the Niacinimide or the Yuja. Thanks.
