I’ve been taking 12 mg. of astaxanthin for about a year. I just had my eye exam, and the optometrist as surprised to see that my vision had improved from my exam 2 years ago. I also get less eye fatigue. But the biggest surprise is that it improved my cognition, which was starting to decline rapidly. I’m 69.

Just how Grateful are we to have Thomas going out of his way to constantly keep up to date with the medical literature on nutrition. Find another channel or source that goes as in depth as he does, he might not be a Top of the class Scholar or the #1 nutritionist, but his work ethic and drive to do all this, his passion to put this information out there, knowing all well this is super complex info and requires domain knowledge context, yet does his best to use analogues / visuals / etc to help us understand. All this just speaks volumes about his personality and character. You truly have been a role model to me, thank you for everything Mr. Thomas.

Astaxanthin is also sustainable to produce, especially if it is algae based. Algae production is carbon negative (meaning it consumes CO2 from the environment), so you can feel very good about taking this supplement. It also crosses the blood-brain barrier and blood-eye barrier, and is the largest natural source of beta carotene.

I just seen this supplement at Costco on sale. It’s only been 3 days but I have noticed a difference. I’ve had a few accidents where my back and neck have been injured, so lots of body joint ache, carpal tunnel from work and lots of job stress, tired and exhausted everyday. Third day taking this, my body immediately was a huge recovery. My neck and back didn’t feel tight, I felt energized, had mental clarity to work. I quickly looked up some info on this supplement because I was like Wow! And I found this video. So I gave the bottle to my mom that also had a lot of back problems and is diabetic. I’ll give an update later on her progress with this supplement.

What is the suggested daily intake? 12-24 mg and not mcg? I carefully ask this because I have purchased and used for some time (am a heart attack survivor and want the best products for my health), the RoyalRed Krill Oil Plus from Costco. As you may know it contains 225 mcg (not mg) of Esterified Astaxanthin along with 262 mg of Phospholipids, 65 mg of Docosahexaenoic Acid and 126 mg of Eicosapentaenoic Acid and 750 mg of the Krill + Fish Oil Complex mix. @@MySilverSprings The evidence is lacking in that regard, and in most cases it says "could" or "might", but there are other studies which show astaxanthin may inhibit the aromatase enzyme. This enzyme converts testosterone to estradiol. Estradiol is a major form of estrogen (female hormone). The truth is, they don't know for sure, but there have been no major reported side effects of astaxanthin to date. I would suggest starting on the lowest dose (4 mg) as that would be sufficient for most people.

@@MySilverSprings Astaxanthin can increase testosterone levels in men by blocking its conversion to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Since testosterone can also be converted by the body to estradiol, an estrogen hormone that, in excess, can lead to breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia), concern has been raised that astaxanthin may indirectly increase the risk of gynecomastia by increasing testosterone levels. However, there is no evidence that taking astaxanthin increases levels of estradiol or the risk of breast enlargement.

I would suggest taking smaller amounts rather than excessive doses of any supplement and give your body time to respond to each supplement before adding another. In terms of astaxanthin, it could lower blood pressure and thin the blood, so that is something to bear in mind if you are taking any medication or supplements that have a similar effect.
