    1. Adequate Protien Intake. 0.8 to 1.0g of protien per pound of body weight. Taken in small portions 30g to 50g per meal. One Meal a day will suffer. Plant based protiens not as bio-available compared to whey or animal. 2. Move - walking, cardio and weight training. 8 hours of activity per week minimum. 3. Sleep. 7 to 9 hours. You sleep 80% of the time you are in bed, so minimum be in bed for 8 hours to offset the times you awake. Dark, cool room and avoid light stimulating sources. Go to bed hungry, full belly, alcohol or cbd induced sleep is really bad, non restorative. 4. Be extra careful when driving a vehicle - highest cause of all cause mortality outside of health. Highest cause of random death or body impairment. 5. Mental and Emotional Health. Exploration of your internal emotional health. Enjoy your own company or seek help if you need it.

    Edit: go to bed hungry, 3 to 4 hours since your last meal if possible. Going to bed on a full stomach, alcohol or cbd induced sleep is horrendous for your sleep health, it's non restorative sleep.

    He's said more protein than .8 to 1mg. Thats way to low according to Dr. Attia

    I was in great shape for age 50, vascular and muscularly fit. Then I had anaphylactic shock from an allergic reaction to an antibiotic. Unconscious from lack of oxygen due lungs swelling shut instantly (as well as everything else), my daughter had to see me loaded into an ambulance. After five hours of CPR in the ER, I was put ibto a medically induced coma and on a ventilator for four days. The doctors told my daughter that if I hadn't been so physically fit, I would not have made it through that. Muscle does a lot more than just make us look good - it saves our asses when we're in the ER, and our family members told to say goodbye. When you are 45+ it is CRITICAL to keep a level of fitness that most people scoff at - especially if you want to live a full live after 60. One just never knows, so stay ready.

    I'd add it's also important to: - have meaning in life - be a part of a community - continue your education - supplement for deficiencies - have a doctor with an investigative mind-set - setup your environment to minimize the toxin/pollution exposure Otherwise the law of minimum is gonna kick your bum to the grave much sooner...

    I love the fact you talk about the sun while driving. I learned this while bicycling, if you see your shadow ahead of you the person coming toward you can’t see you. They are blinded by the sun. This simple awareness has saved me more than once!

    Very interesting that the issue of driving is brought up. I taught my kids and grandchildren almost exactly what Peter said. I told them never go through and intersection without scanning left then right, elaborating that is only takes 1 or 2 seconds. When I was teaching driving, I would constantly ask them while they were driving..."what would you do if..."

    His book is fantastic, it’s not dumbed down it’s super detailed, but you can digest it without a medical degree! I have to rewind sometimes but I would say everyone should read/listen to the book. I’m sharing the relevant information and chapters with family and friends. I’ve decided I want to be a centenarian and I’m planning for later in life. The book has already changed my life and I’m only on chapter 8. I never had hope for later life, I never even thought about it. It’s been a great journey so far.

    If I ever have trouble stepping off a curb, it will be time to put myself down. Just leave me out on the ice floe and let the tribe keep going. I'm 60 and can say that I've never been stronger in my life. We have such good information these days. Thanks @Thomas DeLauer !

    Love the bit about car/ accident awareness. Most people take for granted that everything will be fine. One memory that sticks out for me is when I was 13, I was flying down a neighborhood street on my bicycle. For whatever reason at a neighborhood intersection I had a feeling that I should slow down in case a vehicle were to come out of nowhere and just as I stopped, a big UPS truck appeared where I would have been had I not stopped.

    Thanks for mentioning driving safety and defensive driving. I slow a little bit and scan all areas and cars in an intersection, always have and I'm in my late 50s now. I've only been in one accident (thankfully not a bad one) and the other person was on their phone - I constantly scan all around me as I drive and I saw her looking down at her phone many times as we approached a red light. I stopped and as her head was still down, she plowed right into the back of my car, never applying the brakes (the speed limit was 35 here and she wasn't speeding, at least). PUT THE PHONES DOWN in the car, folks! That text or (gasp!) VIDEO you're watching in your car may well cost you or someone else their life.

    I grew up driving in Germany and they have a much more thorough driver training program and people adhere to the traffic / highway rules better. When I drive in the US I always say, “just assume everyone is an idiot and keep your eyes floating between the mirrors, keep you distance and stay with the flow of traffic” 30 years driving in the US and not one accident.

    That's the way you have to do it. I'm an Uber/Lyft driver and doing that job really shows you how many idiots and assholes are on the roads on a daily basis. I actually don't ever drive from 11 pm to 5am. Situational awareness is key to keeping yourself safe in various aspects of life.

    Especially after the pandemic, it seems like it's the Wild West on the U.S. roads. I see people driving 30-50 miles/hr over the speed limit, passing on the right, passing on the shoulder, etc. No one gets ever pulled over. Just recently, a "lady" was driving 70 miles over the speed limit, and killed 6 highway workers.

    In cold weather states, when there's snow on the ground it's important to always be aware of what's going on behind you. You have some control of what's in front of you but none in what the car behind you is doing.

    Driving two things I’m always looking at the cars that may want to move into my lane from the right to the left. I’m looking at their front tires. I always do a four second rule at stop signs and stop lights. I’ve taught my kids how to drive this way, and my son thanked me about a month ago when a car ran a light.

    I like about a cup of cottage cheese before bed. Helps me sleep and continues protein synthesis and I haven't put on an ounce of fat doing this and have actually lost weight, fat loss not muscle loss, muscle has actually increased. 59yo 6'2 203lbs

    Research indicates adding some apple cider vinegar to an ounce of cheese before bed, should reduce morning glucose by 4% rather than just 2% with cheese alone

    Amazing that we as a civilization have advanced so far in technology and yet, we still don't know what we should eat and avoid for best health and longevity. Vegetarian, carnivore, omnivore, etc. High protein, low protein, calories restriction, fasting, etc. There is no consensus on any of this and that amazes me. You literally, at this point, have to pick the experts you believe and trust, and go with what they say...knowing that they could very well be wrong. Why, after all this time, are we still conflicted and confused as to what we as humans should be consuming for optimal health? I'm sure big food, big pharma and most definitely the government and its worthless agencies have a lot to do with it...Hence the food pyramid and other garbage they put out for our supposed health and safety (They are all bought, compromised and corrupt and have been for a long time)...not to mention the allowance of known carcinogens and toxins in our food and water. Pretty sad.

    Real answer is humans can thrive on a variety of diets barring nutritional deficiencies, getting adequate exercise and calories, and keeping stress low. There are so many populations that eat completely different diets yet have similar levels of lifespan

    Dr. Attia, thank you for mentioning the tips on driving, so very important. I'm from Canada and during the winter months when it's snowing or there's black ice I don't drive during those times. Despite having winter tires on and people thinking I'm safe to drive, I say it's all the others that don't have winter tires that will crash into you.

    Okay I am 70 I go to the gym everyday I do both aerobic exercises and strength and eat the food for body maintenance, I look like I am about 50 so I lost 20 years but it till is easy to get injured and it takes longer for recovery, I see the elderly breaking hips while falling on ice in the winter or just having hip operations but never recovered they are bedridden and in a year or so they die. Once injured you never fully recover when young you recover but once you are old you will feel those injuries you once had

    Looking at your phone when it is dark out and your phone is not set to the color red is absolutely a sleep killer. Phones are set to solar noon and as soon as your eye registers the light from your phone, it disrupts your circadian rhythm and throws off your melatonin production. This interferes with sleep as well as cellular clean up. It's not just about what you are looking at before bed, the light absolutely counts.

    Just want to mention the phone in the bedroom. I had gone to bed with my phone in another room, my son tried to reach me in his emergency situation and because I did not hear my phone, I was not there to help him. When your children are out of the house, please rethink the phone in your bedroom. I do understand not looking at it before you go to sleep, good advice there. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, life saving.

    Super spot on. I have really enjoyed listening to Peter’s book. I appreciate that it is easy to jump around between sections because I found it hard to go through it from cover to cover. But by sections it serves as excellent reminders & motivation. He cracks me up when he says things like “someone is trying to kill you on the road today” dang! Deep breaths deep breaths. Someone is driving carelessly today, get out of their way works better for me LOL Peter is an intense guy 😂 I have to say getting the right sleep mask has been life changing for me. It covers both my eyes and my ears with soft velvety fabric and I honestly feel it disconnects me. I literally cannot go to bed without it like some sort of childhood stuffed animal that I never even had or cared about. It has small internal headphones that dont bother me even if I am sleeping sideways and if I need any help sleeping usually a 30 - 60 min loop of any sound I like, a piano track, rain sounds, or poetry or a narration in the right tone of voice, knocks me out into snooze land.

    Melbourne Australia, 1.45am, oops sleep, waking up with gadgets in room😅, exercise is not going well meniscus tear😢 OD hiking. Yes high protein, lots of vegetables monitoring calories.     Thankyou very interesting. In fact that is what I try to do I'm 74 and I do 18hrs intermittent fasting with to meals where I eat a lot of protein I add à fast of 36 hours once à week to assure à better Autophagy/ Mitophagy. I ' m struugling to adjust my sleeping hours and walk à lot but only doing 4 hours à week in the gym. Will now double thanks to your vidéo. 🙏🙏🙏

    Besides defensive driving, a safer car. Newer models have better crash tests. Larger vehicles are safer sharing the road with trucks than a mini compact car. I know people and children that have permanent neck damage and nerve damage from car accidents.

    I do the same thing @ green lights , except that I scan if I’m at a red that turns green, just as I’m taking off I quickly scan for the person trying to beat the red on Either side of me….

    Also people making a left turn in front of you and they can't see you because you are being block by a car (going in your direction) that is making a left also... Happens to motorcycles all the time

    I've been hit from behind while driving. This makes me constantly check what's going on behind. Be especially vigilant if breaking hard because the person behind may not be as vigilant as you so may not notice you breaking suddenly. This technique saved me from a serious accident. Don't forget the most important thing, love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, mind and strength. It would be a shame to live a great, long and productive life on earth only to spend eternity in hell.

    thats interesting, I never slept well hungry, but always really good when i got enough protein before, ideally just dont eat right before going to sleep, best atleast 2h earlier

    And concussions…Head injuries… it can be just one punch to the head or one head on in football. It only takes one to change your life. You don’t have to pass out for it to affect you either. And helmets don’t help that much, your brain still smooshes into your skull.

    Perfect podcast. Both are super 👏👏 Just got my DXA results and have S.pennia has begun on my hips but same last 10 years I know. Strength muscle mass 6 times a week I try in Gym & walk but not aggressively, gently. 8 hrs I do in a week , 3 hrs everyday , love gym. Plant diet made me like this. So left it recently. Thank you Dr Peter Attia this is a very straight forward podcast for us. I will keep this podcast. Interviewer is perfect won’t interrupt unnecessaryly & make our nerves up. Take NMN & resveratrol as powder form for over all goodness & thinking may be they protect my bones cause my scan result is remaining same last 15 years. Amazing . Left Plant diet at age of 60+ For a Clean protein diet etc I follow Dr Gundry😊 Dr Marrk Hymann you, are all on my top 10 Dr List. Rhonda Dr,Love & trust her as well👏👏👏 Ricotta cheese made at home better of course is the highest calcium one. I have calcifications on my neck arteries around %20 I take scan colurfull Doppler , every year. So far so good . Eat clean protein every other day but Dr Attia says in this podcast more is needed ,I think. So will listen to this podcast carefully didn't finish yet. Thank you for sharing this info with us.     Let's put it together. You have to take in 1,6 grams of protein per kilogram of bodyweight and you have to split it into 5 -6 smaller portions and you are not allowed to eat 3 hours before bedtime. Of course you can't do any intermittend fasting then. How is this not leading to insuline resistance?

    I'm looking forward to the book, and this all makes great sense (his chat with Sam Harris is 3 hours and worth a listen too) - but he does nothing to dispel the idea that health is for the well off when he says "Visceral fat and body fat which you can both pull off a Dexa..."!

    These protein numbers are already out of date. It is now recognised that autophagy, dead microbiome amino acid reabsorption and proteins from all foods (including plants only) are adequate for everyone. The approximate amount we need from exogenous sources is about 50 grams per day. This easily achievable on a normal varied diet of about 2,000 calories.

    Look at Tommy’s hulk-like arms! There is literally (which is one of tom’s fav words) no T-shirt which will accommodate those freakishly huge arms. Sort of makes his forearms look tiny but I’m sure they too are big as well.

    I'd also like to add that the driver behind you isn't paying attention either, so please don't brake abruptly. Anticipate and slow down sooner and more gradually. A good driver isn't just someone who follows the rules of the road, but one who is aware of everyone else around them at all times, anticipates conditions before they happen, and drives defensively to stay out of everyone else's way. Don't be that person who gets rear ended all the time and thinks its everyone else who is the bad driver just because insurance always rules the other person at fault. Drive in a way that reduces the risk of an accident in the first place.

    Increased protein does not improve sarcopenia in the elderly. Adequate, yes and branched chain amino acids. Only about 8 gms can be absorbed at one time. Even exercise is not very effective in sarcopenia. Type two fibers dwindle and motor neurons start to disappear

    He mentioned the need for protein and actually high amounts of protein in the diet and if you compare this to the Blue Zone groups around the world who live to be 100 years old or more they typically have low protein in their diet or are all vegetarian. Can you explain this????

    wow. driving seriously, with the manifestation theory if you believe and focus someone is out to kill you then it increases the odds of that happening. too stressful to focus on that. then again walking myself no car :P

    Arguably another factor is - try not to think of absolute "retirement". It's long been known that people tended to die a couple of years after suddenly ending their full-time work, dropping from 100 to 0 just like that. If you're self-employed in whatever way, you may as well carry on a light amount of work as long as you can, and sort of integrate that with whatever pension income you're getting. It'll keep you on your toes and your body and mind won't slump into atrophy. If you're an employee, make sure to line up a schedule of odd jobs or voluntary work here and there to give structure to your week and so on. It does look like with the looming demographic imbalance the very concept of "retirement" will be increasingly obsolete anyway; but we should see this as an opportunity.

    Living a good life becomes exponentially more difficult when a lot of people hate you, that's for sure. Most of your energy has to be siphoned into self-defense and resilience and can't be pushed out into the world.

    YES. DO NOT EAT ANYTIME CLOSE TO SLEEP. I'm talking 6hrs + gap. Early time restricted feeding. From a formerly 500 pound, now 365 and counting down: Calorie restrict only: Small weight loss/day (0.3 lb at most) Workout only: zero weight loss (literally 0) Calorie restrict+sleep at right time: ALWAYS LOSE WEIGHT (1lb average) Workout+sleep at right time: Almost always lose weight ( 0.3 average) All three: What is weight? -10 pounds in 7 days mode.

    @@BR-hi6yt look up the carnivore content on youtube. people are in perfect health with 0 supplements eating just beef +/- salt/eggs/salmon. The most important experiment in your life is n=1, not n=1000000 sample size from god. "Yeah yeah carnivore works for them but it's not for everyone." Sure. Then why don't you try it yourself. And see. You won't die in 2 weeks.

    I know a phone in the bedroom is not healthy but when you have family that may need to get in contact with you in case of an emergency during the night you feel like you need to. I have been awakened twice by family emergency's one was the suicide of my favorite niece and I would not take anything for the experience of rushing to my family even though I had to jump out of bed and drive 4 hours to get there. So I keep my phone by my bed.

    My TrueMe bio-age is 8 years younger than my chronological age. I only exercise about 10-20 minutes a day. I've also been vegan for 20 plus years and never paid attention to my protein. I think people should follow the Blue Zones learnings instead of this stuff. I do agree that sleep is important. People should make sure they don't have sleep apnea. My bio-age went from five years younger to eight years younger once I treated my sleep apnea.

    What about people who work 84 hours a week, its hard to exercise when your exhausted. By time you get to your housework, laundry ,lawn care, grocery store, changing sheets , meal prep, showers, I'm exhausted and its time to go to work. Argg. I also do interesting fasting, so if have to break my autophagy I'm not getting the benefits. I know Dr Mindy Peltz says the fasting is good. So confusing to hear eat more protein, but not when doing 1 meal a day.

    Thomas I saw a vid, where you bought some Walmart baking chocolate. Ok so gotta be honest as a stand alone it tastes just atrocious, like biting into dark chocolate bitter wax. Could you make a vid about some recipes. Melting it and adding monkfruit helped a little. Maybe adding a bit of cream and trying a fudgesicle could be doable. But plain that chocolate tastes pretty horrible.

    You're right about that baking chocolate, it's designed only to be added to recipes. I started by melting ordinary 63% chocolate chips. You can toast some coconut spread thin on a cookie sheet till light brown going from chewy to crunchy, lots more flavor. Mix in walnuts, some pecans, hazelnuts what you like, except peanuts. If you like some dried fruit like cherries could chop & add. Next batch or so, amp up the cacao with pure cocoa powder, natural not dutched (alkali treated!?) added to melted chocolate. You control, gradually more gently acclimating your taste. Drop the chocolate with add-ins by spoonfuls onto pans lined with waxed paper, freeze. Keeps best in repurposed glass jars for a decadent treat. Try once, you'll never settle for that watered-down over sweet milk chocolate the food industry foists on us. And great mocha better than Star$$ for much better cost - just mix that pure cocoa powder with dark brown sugar, say 50:50 to start. DIY extra dark brown sugar by just pouring molasses into cane sugar at about 1:8 or as suits you, bonus arm workout blending in. Easier to start with 50:50 ratio, then gradually add more of the sugar. Molasses is a luscious flavor with healthful minerals, and flavorful sweetener lets us use less sugar.. Industry goes cheap by skimping on it. Again slowly gain higher cacao -- just add some more cocoa say every other batch. Mix till blended, mix in room temp water at 50:50 solids to liquid, fourth at a time, stir till smooth and stir as bring to a full boil 30 seconds or so. A bottle keeps several days in frig, makes chocolate milk too or less water for a thick sauce. It's rich, smooth & free of the "going cheap" gunk in the packaged stuff. Check out labels on those chilled coffee creamers, and "hot cocoa mix" then DIY for more pleasure + health and save $ too.
