As a westerner, this is shocking for me, but I admire it. This is another culture, something I’m not used to. The fact that I might not like it does not mean it is disgusting, this might, in fact, taste amazing. I don’t see the unsanitary anywhere, this is completely cleaned. Oh my fellow americans, you should see how unsanitary our restaurants are XD. Live and let live. respect other cultures and traditions. I personally think that eating "everything" is better than eating just a few things, think about it? They have bigger menus and options. Awesome!

I don't know if someone already answered this but if you're wondering what the heck is being cut, in order of appearance, 1. Sea pineapple, 2. Sea cucumber, 3. Spoon worm, 4. Abalone. Those are the 4 you usually find when ordering hweh aka Korean sashimi. For us Asians, if it's in the ocean and it won't kill you (though there are exceptions shout out to fugu) we will eat it :D

As a western this kinda shocks me but as a person who aspires to be a chef, this is culturizing, love this videos

The yellow one is called "Mung Gae", sea squirt. It lives in shallow sea, sticking to rock, seaweed, shell. It taste sour and little bit sweet. I don't like the texture even though I am Korean. Second sea food is called "Hae Sam", sea cucumber. The name means ocean ginseng. I don't like the texture and taste. Third one is called "Gae Bull", penis fish. I agree that it looks so weird. But, it has a lot of nutrition such as protein and vitamin. The last one is called "Jeon Bok", abalones. Abalones feed on mineral-rich seaweeds such as sea mustard and kelp. Thus, the abalone is believed to embody 'the vitality of the ocean'. Abalone is a popular health food, rich in proteins and vitamins as well as minerals such as calcium and phosphorus. Not all korean enjoy those sea foods on the video. I rather recommend raw fish than sea foods on the video.

I'm Korean. Please excuse my poor English. I don't like that raw seafood. But I don't blame people who like it. Obviously, there may be parasite worries, but they're not as dangerous as you think. Anyway, it's a luxury food, not something you can eat anywhere in Korea. You must go near the beach to eat fresh raw fish.

chickyjun I totally understand!! filipinos sometimes have exotic foods too haha but honestly I think some comments (at least the ones I’m seeing) are mostly talking abt how unsanitary this looks. Like, rinsing the fresh seafood w room temp water is not enough for it to be served. As I am a Korean raised near the port city Pohang, they are all used to me. They are tasty more than their looking. I understand you could have shocked watching this video but if there are someone brave enough, try them you are in Korea. For many Koreans, eating fresh seafood is part of their lives. Eating local food may be one of the best ways of understanding local culture so trying them may help you to understand Korean culture. Have a nice day.

I honestly like the idea of knowing my food would be fresh 😂 instead of already having an expiration date lol I don’t look down on other cultures and the foods they eat or else I wouldn’t be here at almost 1 AM looking up all these weird unique foods people actually consume. This just reminds me that when I think I know it all I know absolutely nothing when it comes to cooking. There are still so many things I have yet to see and all this looks crazy interesting to me 😂

(30 y/o white American) I don't think a lot of people even know what sashimi is. It is meant to be served raw and the fresher the better! From what I just saw my mouth is watering! This gentleman cleans everything off so I don't know what people are freaking out about. True, Americans are more used to fully cooked food but, THATS THE POINT OF SASHIMI! Hell if I could get a spread like this for $44 i'd be eating this every weekend. And ignore the hate comments guys, just cause people have never tried it they might think it looks weird, but so what? Their loss. Not all Americans are 300 lb KFC binge eaters and not all Koreans only eat raw seafood. Could easily rip on both sides in the comments, but not worth my time :D

Actually, to add to your comment, not all raw fish is eaten fresh. Most Japanese style raw fish, or sashimi, is aged for various lengths of time. Koreans prefer really raw fish, just cut up and consumed right after, but even in Korea, there are a lot of Japanese style restaurants that will served aged fish, especially tuna.

This is Korean cultural seafood dishes prepared to appease to the people. Korea eats more seafood than nearly anyone on the planet! Salmon may be good but abalone is better and healthier. Yes, the techniques may seem odd but that's how they cook it. Want to eat beef, pork, or chicken. Have a look at the slaughterhouses. They're bad too, actually worse. Everyone kills and cooks the food they eat whatever way each country prepares them so. Tbh, Koreans normally don't cook seafood to keep the flavor as fresh as possible. However, if y'all thought this was weird, you haven't seen how they prepare skate. Smells like hell but tastes like heaven.

I've had sea cucumber at my local sushi bar and it was amazingly delicious. I've also had live abalone and thought that I would really enjoy it but it's a bit too strong for my liking. By the way I was stationed in Pohong in the early eighties.

Abdulla Jabr not that it tastes bad, but what is this creature and why do we need to it? it has parasites and microscopic stuff that we don’t know about... so why to risk it and eat such things?

First thing I like about this video is the person is wearing gloves 👍

To you people unaware of certain foods that you are served from Asian restaurants, maybe ask to see if the item you’re eating is a vegetable or one of these…😂

The sea pineapples (the first one to be prepared) are actually tunicates, which means they're among the closest "cousins" to vertebrates.

Me watching these videos in the middle of the night, knowing that I'll never eat these because I hate sea food, but still finding it nightmarish interesting

It's actually looks tasty i guess because I'm hungry 😭

Reminds me of the seafood I eat in my home country of France 😋. French sea food doesn't look as alien as this one for me tough x). But I would gladly try !

@@chickapee They are in parts. Eating oysters that are dead is pretty dangerous, you could get very sick.

This is really amazing! Even if you don't enjoy eating seafood you have to recognize the amazing level of details, care and even artistic sense and other skills needed for making each step of this food. I want to try it some day! Greetings from Brazil.

... They literally just cut up a bunch of living sea slugs and threw them on a plate... Like thats literally it... No cooking, no spices, just raw slugs on a plate. It's not that amazing.

Am from Jamaica 🇯🇲 and I must say this grabbed my attention the moment my eyes 👀 say the thumbnail, I’ve always been interested in other cultures and stuff so this is quite entertaining and satisfying

it’s so funny because the only food western people know are pig,fish,chicken,cow,lobster and shrimp🤷🏻‍♀️

It's not Western people alone. Even we Arabs and every other nation don't have as much of sea food options as Japanese and all the other east Asian people. I like your sea food but honestly (some) of it doesn't look good🤢

Sashimi isn't just food. It's straight up art.

I hail fae Bonny Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and I have never seen any of this seafood before, I love Mussels, Clapydoo’s, whelks, crab, prawns, shrimp and Lobster. I have still to try oysters - the aphrodisiac. If I ever get a chance to visit Asia I’m going to try everything first before I can say yay or nay to these dishes. Xxx 🤘❤️💋

I don't like seafoods because they're weird and taste funny but this is entertaining to watch
