Full Article: insider-gaming.com/assassins-...
Assassin's Creed is an open-world, action-adventure, and stealth game franchise published by Ubisoft and developed mainly by its studio Ubisoft Montreal using the game engine Anvil and its more advanced derivatives. Created by Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond, and Corey May, the Assassin's Creed video game series depicts a fictional millennia-old struggle between the Order of Assassins, who fight for peace and free will, and the Knights Templar, who desire peace through order and control. The series features historical fiction, science fiction, and fictional characters intertwined with real-world historical events and historical figures. In most games, players control a historical Assassin while also playing as an Assassin Initiate or someone caught in the Assassin-Templar conflict in the present-day framing story. Considered a spiritual successor to the Prince of Persia series, Assassin's Creed took inspiration from the novel Alamut by the Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, based on the historical Hashashin sect of the medieval Middle East.
The first Assassin's Creed game was released in 2007, and the series has featured thirteen main installments in total, the most recent being Assassin's Creed Mirage in 2023. Main games in the Assassin's Creed series are set in an open world and played from the third-person view. Gameplay revolves around combat, stealth, and exploration, including the use of parkour to navigate the environment. The games feature both main and side missions, and some titles also include competitive and cooperative multiplayer game modes.
A new story and occasionally new time periods are introduced in each entry, with the gameplay elements also evolving. There are three overarching story arcs in the series. The first five main games follow Desmond Miles, a descendant of several important Assassins throughout history, who uses a machine called the Animus to relive his ancestors' memories and find powerful artifacts called Pieces of Eden in an attempt to prevent a catastrophic event, referencing the 2012 phenomenon. From Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag to Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Assassin initiates and employees of Abstergo (a company used as a front by the modern-day Templars) record genetic memories using the Helix software, helping the Templars and Assassins find new Pieces of Eden in the modern world. The next three games, Assassin's Creed Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla, follow ex-Abstergo employee Layla Hassan on her own quest to save humanity from another disaster.
The main games in the Assassin's Creed franchise have received generally positive reviews for their ambition in visuals, game design, and narratives, with criticism for the yearly release cycle and frequent bugs, as well as the prioritising of role-playing mechanics in later titles. The series has received multiple awards and nominations, including multiple Game of the Year awards. It is commercially successful, selling over 200 million copies as of September 2022, becoming Ubisoft's best-selling franchise and one of the highest selling video game franchises of all time. While main titles are produced for major consoles and desktop platforms, multiple spin-off games have been released for consoles, mobiles, and handheld platforms. A series of art books, encyclopedias, comics, and novels have also been published. A live-action film adaptation of the series, titled Assassin's Creed, was released in 2016.

Life service, what a typo! Companies really do want you to play their live service games forever so they can milk you for all you're worth. I'm gonna pass on anything that is sold as a live service game from now on. I used to play Destiny during the PS3 era and eventually got bored of it and moved on to better things

And then they can't meet their projections. I wish gamers would put their money where their mouths are. Stop buying live service..... which a lot of us have done..... but when we get full fledged sp games. We need to seriously support them. But I am just a dinosaur, I get they need to earn money, it is business, but man, I remember when idea was - make the best product possible and earn cash that way, over current idea, whatever ass it is. I will just say, If first Diablo game was like Diablo 4, Diablo 4 wouldn't exist. Diablo as multi sequel franchise only exists, because first and second game were very good and that is how fanbase was born, and that is how you supposed to do it... Today though, like I am so glad 9 years ago, WB already ''DECIDED'' that we all be playing Suicide squad non stop in 2024, they built entire game on idea of selling us shit, fucking briiant 9 years of dev time. Of course the game is a huge time commitment, but isnt that how open world games are meant to be played? Who plays open world games just for the main story and calls everything else a "grind"? @@vert2552 It wouldn't be faire for me to name the future release from Ubisoft because I'm working in the video game industry, so I kind of now what's gonna be release or not soon enough ^^ I haven't played Valhalla, and I agree with you that at some level, anything you give to the player within the AC Franchise, they're gonna take it wether it's good or not anyway. But from what I've seen valhalla deserved their success for real. Again I don't know much and I haven't played it, but it seems to have a lot of cool content with 3 differents story mode (Your character, Your clan, and another one if I remember well ?) That being said, I understand and agree 100% on what you're saying, there is no reason to add microtransaction in a AAA solo game. Especially when it's lacking of polish and stuffed with grind content. On the opposite, I'd say it would tend to alienate your players, something that usually we tried to avoid hahaha Maybe you could try to give a shot to Mirage, I didn't played Odyssey and Valhalla because they looked kind of bad compared to what I wanted to see from an AC game. And honestly I wasn't expecting much from Mirage but it help me to make my peace with the AC brand, it's a cool short and detailed game. Of course it's still in a openworld setting with the useless light RPG component and the weird "souls like" fighting system. But honestly it's already a better step into the right direction on what a lot of player might love from AC. (And the "sucess" shown from Mirage's release, that the players might want more experiences like that) Sorry for the big text, but I think it's better to take the time to explain everything instead of doing a quick short message that won't explain totally what I want to explain :p

After seeing all the bug in Unity I never bothered then they had that weird time travel crap in Unity or the London one where you go forward to shooting planes at the Eiffel Tower or some crap like that?? It just makes me mad that I had always wanted an AC game that took place in Japan, and when they actually make it of course it has to release as part of this weird ecosystem of AC games. To be honest, I loved Origins and Odyssey, and a samurai inspired AC similar to those two, with such huge and interesting worlds (controversial statement I guess, but I loved how big yet full Odyssey's map was) can be an amazing game.

Especially the way level scaling works in the game. Makes no sense anybody could defend this let alone claim that Odyssey had a good AC formula in it. Assassin's Creed peaked with the Ezio trilogy, after that they never did that whole Assassin stuff well anymore. I liked Origins and loved Odyssey (even tho, as we all know, they aren't really AC games). But Valhalla, among other things, just felt like it was doubling down on all the things that I was beginning to hate abt the series' new direction (needlessly huge worldmap, overreliance on magic and fantasy over historical fiction, emphasis on combat over stealth, no focus on the titular creed or the brotherhood, etc). I cannot stand Valhalla. Coming from someone who wanted a "return to form," Mirage was just disappointing tbh And now, live service games...

I may be wrong but this is how I’m seeing it: The games that release will be just that, games that you can complete. Infinity is a live service they are using to connect all these games if people want to continue going back to those games, like raid events, holiday cosmetic stuff blah blah blah. BUT it seems that the live service teams and the general stories, quests, gameplay, etc are all tied to their own games. If my assumption is correct, this keeps the live service team separate enough from the mainline game teams to not force padding and whatnot into the mainline games via dumbing down or slowing down things. Now Valhalla is an example of them padding the game with that mindset but hopefully things can change when infinity launches. I’m an optimist.

I think that ac infinity could be a good idea but not with Ubisoft at the helm. I like the idea from a story telling perspective of the hub world being the start of the modern day story and you the player have to explore different historical settings through the animus in search of something. But based on the leaks and Ubisofts track record, I see this game instead having aggressive monetization with a gameplay loop similar to far cry 6’s post game. (I.e. redo the same missions over and over again with the explanation being a never ending war between two factions)

Cosmetics, season passes, skins, battle passes, lootboxes. Any of this stuff in a game or even mentioned in the initial press release of it, I skip.
