Is it true Buzz wanted to originally call this album 'Kurt Cobain'?

My memory is hazy also as I haven't heard that album since I was in high school, about the time it came out, or not long after. When I was a teenager, my friend turned me onto the Melvins by playing me "Ozma" in his car. From that point on, I was hooked and had deep respect for the Melvins and always have. It wasn't like it is today where you hear something on KZread. Growing up here in the Pacific NW, I always looked up to the Melvins. They're like "Our Team". Not that I watch sports or anything like that, but Melvins are from my region and they're kind of special. I regard them as Masters of their own kind of music. They're original and blazed their own path. I respect the Melvins for that, and... also I have to be in the right mood to listen to the Melvins. Not that much different than my taste for spicy food. I have a place and time for guzzling hot sauce straight from the bottle. It's delicious, but not easily palitable all the time. It's it's own thing. Regardless of whether I like one album vs. another doesn't change that they'll always be THE MELVINS to me. That said, when I was in high school and I heard Prick, just about anything the Melvins did was cool to me at the time. I saw that album like an act of rebellion. Now as an adult, of course I see differently. I don't like Prick. It's probably their worst album. There's no enjoyment for me to be had in listening to it again. I vaguely remember an interview where Buzz talks about Prick. Though I can't remember the details of the story. If I remember right, they knew that album sucked and I think they had some kind of reason for doing that. As I said, I don't remember the details of what was said in that interview.

Is there any story behind the name "Larry" ? Considering there's other songs in the Melvins discography like "Instant Larry" and much later on "Friends Before Larry"

It says on the back of the LP that Prick was recorded in England in April, 1994. During most of April 1994 you were on tour in the U.S. with The Obsessed (I know because I was there!) so is the comment on the back of the LP correct? Do you remember what you were doing in England back then apart from recording Prick? (Perhaps you stayed over after the end of the March 1994 European tour?) Thanks.

This album is in my top 5 albums to listen to on psychedelics. I also enjoy this album completely sober. My question is, was it your intent to make an album for your recreational substance using fans to enjoy?

I think it's a very funny record. Like some other fellows, I'd like to know what is going on in 'Montreal'. Also if possible it would be great to get an insight of the field recording 'Underground'. I haven't played this CD in a while. I think that in the opening track there is also a field recording of a raunchy audience mixed with a sample of a movie later used again in 'The Silent Treatment'. Maybe you could tell us about the sources of all these puzzle pieces and how you made the collage. Ha! I think this is a good excuse to listen to 'Prick' again!

I read an interview at the time in which buzz said that the album was a way to show that they could "do whatever they wanted" or something. to that effect. A guy I lived with said that the album was a mistake. because he would no longer just buy an Melvins album as it came out, something that most fans had loyally done for a while. Was this album a sincere experimental album? I personally think that it kind of falls short in its studio experiments but I did not feel betrayed in the same way as this other fellow had. They wouldn't revisit this kind of experimentalism for a while which led me to believe that there were, perhaps, some regrets or maybe. I would be curious to hear whatever details and opinions you may have. Thanks

Was the loophole to getting this record past Atlantic really as simple as writing “Melvins” in mirror image? Or was this just one that Atlantic would never touch in a million years? Also - what’s the deal with the album cover? Where does the image come from?

I listened to Prick today while working, so essentially I was paid to listen to it. Pretty good deal! I listened to this album a lot in the 90s, but for some reason (probably because it is not on Spotify) I haven't listened to it in a very long time. I bought it the day it came out - I have no idea how I got my information then? Flipside? MaximumRockNRoll? Somehow I knew when it was coming out and that it was going to be a weird Melvins record. I thought that was funny as I already thought the Melvins were weird! I listened to Negativland, Flipper and Butthole Surfers as a kid, so this departure seemed perfect to me. What was crazy to me listening to it today was I understood what a huge impact it had on me with my music and bands - I never realized that before. But the record I made with Randall Dunn, Don McGreevy and all the other Master Musicians of Boo-Kakke totally has a lot of this same vibe. I never realized that until today. In a lot of ways we were to Prick what Sunn O))) is to Earth. This is going back in regular rotation for awhile.

Everything has a point of relativity eventually ! I really need to do a solo project called Moon so Earth, Sunn, and Moon can do something called "The Eclipse Tour". I sense merchandising opportunities if nothing else.

I remember buying this in the mall and was so pissed because it cost me two hours pay and was mostly nonsense. Two "songs" which were essentially throwaways. As a 19 year old trying to live on my own it was like all my money for the week. Made me real hesitant to buy stuff blind from them I'll be honest.

Were there any albums that influenced this album? Also, was this album meant to be a prank on fans from the beginning, or did that idea come later?
