Here we are in 2024 and hopefully we are starting get used to the rapid changes in music. It was just 2020 when I started teaching on the Streaming Era and it's already passing away. We have entered the Content Era. Content is king, nothing moves without it. This isn't just an artist's obstacle it's an obstacle for ANYONE trying to do business in 2024 and the foreseeable future.
The #1 form of discovery is Content because social media has captured our lives. We don't listen to radio or watch music videos on tv or even go searching dsp playlist to find new music. Hours of our day is spent on our phone scrolling on our favorite social media platform. Therefore if someone doing business wants to reach you they have to be a part of that scroll, meaning they have to create content so they can end up on your timeline! That is why content is king and that's how we found ourselves in the Content Era.
There are many pros to this new era, one of my favorites first and fore most is that artists will no longer rely on streaming as their main source of monetizing their music (Thank God).
