Artificial intelligence in astrophysics - Public lecture by Dr. Aleksandra Ciprijanovic
Ғылым және технология
From discovering the rarest astrophysical objects to mapping the large-scale structures of the cosmos, artificial intelligence is advancing our understanding of the universe. In this one-hour lecture, Dr. Aleksandra Ciprijanovic explains how artificial intelligence is transforming the field of astrophysics in unprecedented ways. Her lecture covers the latest breakthroughs and the potential for future developments at this exciting intersection.
Ciprijanovic is a Wilson Fellow in the Data Science, Simulation and Learning Division at Fermilab, where she leads the Cosmic Artificial Intelligence group. She is a member of the Deep Skies Lab, the Rubin Observatory/LSST Science Collaborations, the Society of Astronomers of Serbia, the International Astronomical Union, and the European Astronomical Society. Her main research interests are artificial intelligence and machine learning in astrophysics and cosmology; working with big data from simulations and astronomical surveys; and studies of galaxies, galaxy clusters and gravitational lensing. She is also interested in astroparticle physics, high-energy physics, nucleosynthesis, gamma-ray astronomy and neutrino astronomy. Ciprijanovic loves working with students of all levels and strives to teach them not only how to solve scientific problems, but also how to navigate the job market and reach their career goals in or outside of academia.
Ciprijanovic received her Ph.D. in astrophysics at the University of Belgrade, Serbia. Prior to moving to the United States, she worked as assistant research professor at the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Belgrade and at the Mathematical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade.

Excellent presentation! Thank you.
This is amazing. We've come so far a species and I'm glad these two scientists are able to have their work taken seriously. These advancements can help us improve things if we can learn how to do so efficiently.
What a pleasant and informative lecture. Thank you.
Wonderful presentation...
Awesome! I love Fermilab videos! 🍻🌎❤️🌮⚗️📡🔬🖥️
06:49 Artificial intelligence is a broad term that includes software capable of performing tasks requiring human intelligence. 13:38 AI algorithms learn from data and can perform complex tasks 20:27 Astrophysicists need much larger and higher quality cameras than what iPhone provides. 27:16 AI is used in astrophysics to process large data sets, speed up simulations, schedule operations, and find anomalies 34:05 Artificial intelligence is used to find and study rare events like supernovas and gravitational lensing. 40:54 AI algorithms can distinguish between non-lens and gravitationally lensed galaxies 47:43 Simulation plays a crucial role in studying the evolution of matter in the universe 54:27 Gravitational waves can be detected using the LIGO detector
Please put in chapters - deep mind has partnered with KZread to introduce these into long , informative videos to aid us hungry minds to dissect and synthesise what we need.
AI exploration on interstellar time scales makes a lot of sense. Nobody wants to commit humans to a one way voyage into unknown conditions. An AI is expendable, allowing for one way efficiency, can be upgraded enroute as new advances or priorities are realized, and requires no life support systems like food/water/pressurization. You can also launch multiple identical probes for redundancy in case an individual probe is damaged/fails enroute.

Interesting.
Thank you! I learned so much. It seems that only AI will be able to handle the amount of data from observations.

30:00 Interesting how "Refractive Lensing" was utilized to demonstrate "Gravitational Lensing"? I guess refractive lensing tools and materials are far more abundant in the universe making the effect much more easy to reproduce.

May i suggest to use ai picture generator technology to give a better rendering. Could dark energy, dark matter and quantum gravity be the same phenomenon from different angle? I am a simple man but it seems to me that virtual particles falling in a black hole while its anti particle radiate is itself space time bending. Like 2 rows of pearls ripping against each other. Like the infinit basketball team making room for a new comer by shifting to the next seat. That shifting is a gravitational wave. And is a virtual particle dom ng into being and then sitting. Its an edge dislocation. In a circle its a ring wave. In 3 d it is a tunnel but looks like a sphere.. I hope it makes sense. Hard to type complex ideas 😅 Take care. And congratulation. ❤
You would think that AI could basically scan a dataset to point out things to humans pretty effectively. What probably hangs it up though is things that are unknown, or look like other things and are not, etc...
Bio-physics. In the Double Helix, the Gene responsible for lifespans be modified for longer lifespans?
@maythesciencebewithyou
Жыл бұрын
there is no single gene that determines your lifespan. but yes, if you figure out which genes are the deciding ones, you could theoretically modify them to have longer lifespans, even achieve biological immortality. But you'd have to have a full grasp on how things work and know what changes are needed to make a human live longer. Unlikely to happen with a grown humans, as you'd have to manage to somehow modify trillions of cells in a body. Would be easiest to modify a zygote. But gene modifications are not 100% guaranteed to succeed.

As soon as I find out professionals use GenZ technology I avoid getting information from them. They've besmirched their reputation. It's equivalent to a physicist who entertains the idea of UFO research and astrology.
Unfortunately, technology that can be advantageous for jobs can also be misused by corrupt people for their nefarious activities. AI will eventually be the downfall of humanity. Mark my words.

@@clown134 Nuclear energy isn't here yet and when it's here it can be the downfall of humanity as well. If you're talking about nuclear weapons that's a different story. It's called refrain from war. That's all there is to it. The internet is simply a network of computers. Why on Earth would that be the downfall of humanity? The application of it such as social media could initiate it by spreading misinformation and brainwashing people. And by the way the internet already has been misused.
