I like this exercise! After many years of therapy and living on my own I feel like my body is a bright blue sky full of hope and strength with moments of storm clouds. While growing up, however, I was a scapegoat to my narcissistic mom, golden child brother, and enabling aunts/uncles/cousins. My mom was also abused by her mom in this way. When I think back at my younger self, my whole body felt like a muddy dark green, heavy, and lethargic. In fact, I remember drawing that in middle school with crayons. Thank God for therapy and forgiveness. My mom, brother, and I have a simple but loving relationship from a safe distance. I gave myself permission to go no contact with my toxic aunts/uncles/cousins. I’m still struggling with avoidant attachment and escape friendships too quicklly to sustain a long term friendship or romantic relationship. While I figure out my avoidant attachment style, I enjoy loving people at arms length at work then clocking out and going to the safety of my home with my cat Theo. I know this is not ideal, but healing takes time, patience, and self love.
I have acrually made this drawing for a Drs appointment, to let hIm know what hurts, burns, tingles after a T and L spinal fusion.
