ARRMA Outcast & Kraton 8s 1/5 "MEGA PIT Breakage!" the how and why...

Sometimes you just have to own it when things break. Often it's either driver error or poor tuning that leads to parts failure. Huge shout out to my brother Aaron for another wild session at the "Pit of Destruction". We ran out of time, but made the best of what we had. Can't say I have a favorite between the Outcast and Kraton 8s. Both are incredibly capable and Mad fun in their own way. Big thanks to ARRMA for these wonderful platforms. Thanks also to Fast Track Hobbies in Rocklin, CA and M2C Racing for taking these rigs to the next level.

    I love Rich! The steering block exploded and instead of replacing it and bitching about it, he dug deeper and found out exactly why it happened and how to prevent it next time. Big thumbs up for being a proper hobbyist!

Such a well balanced rig! New shell looking killer too!😍That mega stall and quick correction Aaron did was nuts!😱Looked like some good times bro!! What it's all about! Totally my bad on overtightening the retainer nut 😝. Definitely a first. Looking forward to trying out Mitch's locking option with smooth cup insert 😍. No more PTFE tape on the threads to keep them put 👌. The K8s flew like a bird at the pit and Big Red redeemed herself in the dirt 🤗. Aaron was Killin it with his Kraton 6s 😱. His Talion took some damage that one shaver, but we got in a super FUN session regardless. Hopefully tune up the Mega mound next visit. Absolutely stomping that gravel down with the big girls.... Was epic brother Rich. Looks like you got them both tuned so well. Outcast 8s running VERY well on stock and the 39 tooth spool.... Great job Arrma having flexible electronics that can handle a spool adjustment to get more out of the rig! Very interesting what you did with lowering the suspe sion on the Outcast, seemed to drive a little flatter and controlled... Less MT which I think is what you were going for? 🔥🔥🚀🚀 Killer airs brother, You were taming both those beasts so well... And they took a pounding! That Hub on the Outcast... You think that exploded because on of the balls was loose? Either way... Everything has a failing point, you can't fault the truck with sends like that. Thanks so much Dennis 🤗. Always have an Epic time out there with Aaron 👊. Both rigs did fantastic overall. The O8s corners and gets the power down better sitting a tad lower 👍. It's a little trickier getting the droop set properly, but I do like the handling. The M2C Kraton 8s just owns it at this huge pit 😍. She handles Fantastic with the Backflips too. Way more forgiving than the Six Pack X's. The hub broke because I overtightened the lower pivot ball nut on accident 😝. Mitch's new setup will prevent that from happening again 👌. Props to him for making it happen. 🍻👍👍😎💪👊👊

    So true Brother 😍. I had left the hobby for a really long time and I'm still floored by all the advancements. The speed and power alone still gets me every time out 👀. It's something I hold a high regard and respect for from a safety standpoint. So easy to run out of space and tag solid objects 😱. These bigger rigs take a bit longer to stop too. Don't mean to go off on a safety spiel, but it's always something I think about 🍻😎💪👊👊

    Awesome as usual brother Rich! You’re not making it any easier to resist jumping into the 1/5th scale game with that outcast footage, such an awesome rig! Is it heavier than the 1/5th Kraton? I swear you can hear it’s weight come through on video, maybe just the tire noise is different, but it’s definitely distinct when big boy outcast is rollin.

    Thanks so much John 🤗. The Outcast isn't any heavier than the Kraton 8s. It's probably that my K8s is running a high power setup plus M2C shafts and 0 ring style Delrin pistons. My Kraton looks faster and smoother because it is 👀. Other thing is the weight is slightly more spread out in the LWB Kraton chassis. Therefore it carries a bit differently than the Outcast. 🍻😎💪👊👊

    Rich, so awesome to see these huge trucks getting huge air. But what's your take on the reasonable size limit for bashing trucks? You typically run 1/8-scale trucks, these are officially 1/5th but are more realistically 1/6th. For your big bashing style, big bash areas, and high skill level, is this the ideal size? I'm assuming for most people these are too big too handle.

  • @richduperbash2966

    @richduperbash2966

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks so much Brother 🤗. 1/8th scale is still ideal for all around speed, agility, and durability IMO, especially from a physics standpoint. That said, these big 8s rigs can tackle gnarly terrain better and take serious punishment 👀. It's more crucial to land cleanly given their sheer size and mass though. Obviously, they all have their reasonable limits. I prefer to rotate between the sizes just to keep it challenging and fun🍻😎💪👊👊

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@joshherrman3201 yes indeed. Bolts up perfectly 👌. I recommend facing the toothside of the gear towards the rear with the collar towards the motor mount. This gives proper clearance on both sides and ensures the teeth can't make contact with the mount. The other tip I forgot to share on video: if using a 34T Limitless spool for the pinion also (like my Kraton 8s 34/34 set-up) it's a good idea to file a second small flat spot on the motor shaft for the opposite side grub screw. That really locks both grub screws to the motor shaft. I didn't file very deep. Just a small spot for the grub face to sit flat on. 🍻

I've had a couple of shin bangers that hurt for a few days but that's it, so far anyway. On your Outcast I've never seen that part break before and I've broken and replaced just about everything I think I could have on my Rigs. Must have just been the perfect hit to cause that. Never even seen the Part in my Shop. Another epic run as always, you just keep topping yourself. The 8s rigs are very durable even stock when tuned and driven well. With an M2C Racing 7075 chassis and a few other goodies, they are full beefcake 👀. The physics part is the mass. The impact forces are much greater with the bigger 8s rigs than the 1/8ths. Any rig can break with the right hit, but heavier ones must be driven with size in mind always. 🍻😎💪👊👊
