Arrma 3s/4s Steering Upgrade Kimbrough Servo Saver

Hi all. I'm trying out an alternative servo saver upgrade which is the Kimbrough #124 large servo saver. I compare it to the Hot Racing servo saver which I have used previously. If you find this helpful then please press like and maybe leave me a comment. Thanks for watching :-)

Something that hasn’t caught on yet is putting the 124 spring into the stock saver. It works great, and honestly I think the stock saver might compress the spring a tiny bit more than the kimbrough. It’s definitely finicky, but less trouble and a better final product than the kimbrough.

Ah right I've not tried that one. I did open one of the Arrma ones with the thought that I could compress the spring more but that was a fail. Might get a couple more of the Kimbrough ones and have a go at your mod. Thanks for your great feedback 😁

Could you please explain a bit more? I’m genuinely curious. I’m about to upgrade. I’m wondering about the spring.. what do you mean by that part of it… installing which part?

@@sons-braddalton Hi there. I've not tried it myself but there are little springs inside these and I think that @magnusstone has managed to get the spring out of the Kimbrough one and put it in the Arrma one in place of the spring that was in there.

@@PeteWylieRC thank you! I love your channel. So helpful. I am getting two Mojave’s and I actually decided on the hot racing servo saver. Because of your other video. You made a difference to me! Appreciate you 🙏🏼

@@sons-braddalton Thank you for your kind feedback 😁 I would just say that although the Hot Racing Servo saver is fine in my Outcast and has been in there for a year and a half, the one I put in the Mojave had the servo adaptor strip on me. Might have been because I didn't screw it down tight enough but I'm not sure. I would say that if you don't mind adapting the Kimbrough one then it might be a better bet and it's a lot cheaper. You do need a suitably sized screw and nut though as I think I showed in the video. The Hot Racing one is an easier install.

These old Kimbrough servo savers are the best! I've been running them for decades in my Monster Trucks and they've saved many a servo. Lol!

Hiya fil. Yeah these are good value and it's worth getting a few to put in the spares box. Certainly better than the stock Tamiya ones too. Cheers for watching mate 😁

Hi there. Yeah the stock one would be fine in a Tamiya as it's much stronger than the plastic one you get in the kits. I did try a Tamiya hi torque servo saver in the Arrma Outcast and the spring got bent out of shape after a short while. These Kimbrough ones do seem really good for the money. Many thanks indeed for watching 😁👍

Sorry I missed this one Pete! Oh boy, that stock servo saver is way too floppy!!! Can't believe it on such a beefy truck. Good on you for working out a solution and very clearly presented and demonstrated my friend. You are a brave man using those hand tools above the bench though Pete! Some very rapid screwing at the end there! 🤣 Top job as always mate! 😎👊👍

Hiya mate. Oh yeah no worries, I know you've had a lot on but thanks for finding this one. Thing is that the standard servo saver is stronger than a standard Tamiya one but on a great big truck like this it's no good. I did try the Tamiya Hi Torque servo saver on one of these and it was ok for a while but then the spring got bent out of shape. Anyway these Kimbrough ones would be a good alternative for Tamiyas too as they do them in different sizes. Oh yes I like a rapid screwing session 😁 Cheers for watching my friend. Happy Friday and all that 😁👍👍

Hiya Steve. Yeah I'm pleased with this and like you say it would be good to get some of the smaller ones for the Tamiyas. The Hot Racing ones have been fine so far but I'm going to get more of the Kimbrough ones as spares. Many thanks for your great feedback my friend 😁👍

Glad you liking the Kimbrough saver Pete, I use the #124 on all of my Arrma 3s & 4s cars. There great upgrades for just 7 Quid. I also fitted one to my Corally Mammoth XP 2wd truck, the stock Corally servo saver was even weaker than the stock Arrma savers. To the point that it was difficult to even turn the truck even on tarmac, where the wheels wanted to keep going straight in turns. Kimbrough #124 instantly sorted that problem, now turns on a dime.

Hi there. Yeah it's such good value that you could buy a few to keep in the spares bin and some of the smaller size ones for the Tamiya's. That's interesting that the Corally one was even worse. It's a bit annoying that Arrma upgraded quite a lot of bits on the 4s cars but left the crappy servo saver. They need to come out with a better one. Many thanks for your great feedback and thanks for watching 😁👍

Bloody servo savers..... can't stand the things!! Send them all to room 101 as far as I'm concerned! 😂 Especially those pesky Tamiya sloppy slopsters..... I'm not even that impressed with the Tamiya high torque ones to be honest mate! I would say at least 50% of our break downs whilst out running are servo saver related, and the amount of cars I have where the servo struggles to self center off it's own accord due to the slop is infuriating! Cheers for sharing these Pete, may well have to give the smaller ones a go on some of my Tamiya fleet! 👍 👍 👍 😊

Hiya 😁 Yeah the stock Tamiya ones are rather crappy and can stick as you say. I've not had much bother with the Tamiya Hi Torque ones but these Kimbrough ones seem much tougher and they are cheap. Defo worth getting a couple to try and see what you reckon. Obviously only use them with a fairly powerful servo otherwise the gears might strip before the saver spring moves. Cheers for watching mate and your great comments as ever. Best wishes to you and yours 😁👍

I just bought a 4s Kraton v2.5 and the steering sucks, definitely going to do this servo saver upgrade but do I need to upgrade the servo as well? Or should the servo saver be good enough of an upgrade?

What would be a great servo to go with the hot racing servo saver in an arrma kraton v4 2.5 also what would be considered a high end servo upgrade

I'm using the JX Ecoboost 22kg servos in my Arrma's. It is super quick and responsive and not too dear. It's from banggood. I don't know about any high end expensive ones but the JX ones seem to work well. Many thanks for watching 😁

Yeah it's the thing that everyone complains about so why didn't Arrma come out with a better one when they launched the 2.5 versions of the 4s cars. Once this is done these are awesome trucks. Thanks for your great feedback :-)
