    Stephan Williams Could be, should be, would be...but it still be BS. It's fantasy and an appeal to ignorance...classic appeal to ignorance. Dawkins said there could be giant teapot in the sky, and it's still up to those claiming it to prove it, not simply appeal to ignorance.

    Stephan Williams Yep, delusions of life before and after death is what you have. Making some claim doesn't make it possible nor probable and certainly doesn't fit with any know facts. There are these little things called the Laws of Nature, and they can't be suspended to accommodate some appeal to ignorance, not even your own, of course.

    +wolfumz More than that it is IDIOTIC to argue that way. He was very likely not at the marriage of his parents, yet believes they WERE married (or maybe they are still alive, don't know, don't really care). He can't remember his own birth yet will fully believe all claims made about it... mother, probably father, time, place and if any were told to him other circumstances of it, e.g. how they got to the hospital or how long it took until the first ass slap of his life. He was neither there when Jesus died nor when Moses came down from Mount Sinai yet he instantly believes the book report about it. He wasn't there when a council decided what belongs in his bible and what not, he wasn't there when the oral traditions were first put into writing or when the english bishops sat down to make the King James Version translation yet he accepts all of that as true and base of his life and beliefs. And he especially was not there when allegedly the global flood created the Grand Canyon as he is so fond of rattling down in a long ago learned by heart explanation for his stance, yet he tells ad nauseam about it, so where's the difference? HE takes so much at face value despite not having been there. But i SCIENCE does it, he claims it's not proof because they were not there? Look, a hypocrite!

    Intelligent design and evolution/big bang are competing theories. Once this is understood, it is obvious that both should be taught in schools as theories. It is immoral to pass off scientific theories as "facts" and stamp out your competition just because you have control of institutions and textbooks. This is about politics not truth.

    +Guitcad1 The place of the talk is already a good pointer, both to see it's not a video you've already seen on another channel and with most of the guest speakers also by year roughly discerning what talk you'll hear as they usually repeat similar talks a few times before the next bunch of subjects comes up and a new "set" is created to present. Of course any rule has its exceptions, Aron Ra is one of them and switches a lot between his "standards" depending on the conference theme. Dan Barker is another one of those. Others like David Fitzgerald tour the same slideshow for years until their next book is ready or so ;)

    I defiantly fall under the 'I need to understand' camp....or 'try to understand' ,at least. Since, technically, I don't 'need' to understand. However, my mind simply will not allow for accepting anything on 'faith'. My fear of death plays a big part of this, and I can intellectually admit this. Some people can't cope with the thought of not existing...thus...believing.

    It would take centuries to see the Dawn of the Universe?? Bumer, that means that even with a chronodrome we wouldn't be able to cover that, huh!?... u-n-l-e-s-s... we just used another chronodrome covering the actions of the original one!!! Lol. That way we could check it within a few minutes ;-) Lol, well, on a more serious note, though... AronRa was correct about the dangers of overpopulation. And we *are* dangerously approaching a break point. But things could be even darker than we think, and the answer not as simple as "make less babies". Sure, we could try that. But we seem doomed to fall prey to our *own* technological sophistication [especially in the field of Medicine]. Because our elders can now live longer and longer (without getting any younger, though), and if we contrast that with a world with less and less babies, the ratio takes on a nightmarish scenario. Each working/productive adult will have to create enough richness to support 6 or 7 old retired people. It's impossible. So what should we do? Kill our elderly instead of making less babies? In a world without moral boundaries perhaps, but *not* in the world we've come to create. So what to do? I don't know... and i suspect no one really does.

    Christianity certainly attacks back. Aron Ra has dozens of videos addressing the Koran. The Book of Mormon is premised on several claims in the Bible, such as the Tower of Babel and the Resurrection of Christ, so it doesn't need to be singled out for special attack. Scientology isn't trying to teach creationism in public schools and is irrelevant in the larger picture.

    Matt Jones I'm confused and disappointed that I have to explain that no animals want to die, ergo, fear death. Did you know when farmers put down an animal they try to surprise it because the stress created from fear will make the meat different? You ever step on a crowd of ants? Every predatory non-human animal tries for the element of surprise because the prey will try to evade it. So what in the flying fuck makes you think that any animal doesn't fear death?

  • @killax1000

    @killax1000

    Matt Jones the same reason a naturalist does and in the exact same fashion. What evidence do you have to imply any animal doesn't know the reason it does anything? Did you know why your heart beat or your lungs breathe when you were born? I'm assuming you're saying non humans behave entirely on subconscious impulse mechanisms similar to that. Kind of like they're just witnessing their life happen. Or do you not think they're anything more than biochemical machines? I've got an idea that agrees and disagrees with you. Where we disagree is you drawing the line at humans. Do you now agree that non-human animals do fear death?

  • @killax1000

    @killax1000

    +Matt Jones I bet if someone watched me look at myself in the mirror half the time they might think the same thing. So now you're saying non-humans don't know what their body is because it seems like they don't realize they are seeing their own reflection in a mirror. therefore they can't fear their death because they don't even know what they are or are we dropping that point? I don't see a difference in you concluding animals have no thought and people narrating their young children as if they can read their mind or describing the emotions of their pets. I'm sure vegans and PETA would disagree with you. But I'm probably not going to make you think any different about your firsthand witness to those viral animals in mirror videos.

    +killax1000 "... being able to comprehend what a mirror is ..." Most animals can't understand a mirror, but I have seen one or two cats of mine that were able to figure it out, but only if I were with them in the mirror. Cats have no concept of death. While burying victims of accident or disease, they show a passing interest in the deceased and the process of digging it's grave, after which they have waited patiently for me to be done with the task and free to attend to them. As for fearing death, the 'fight or flight' instinct in no way indicates a fear of the possible future state of death. Even humans still exhibit this instinctual mechanism, which is automatic. No consideration of consequences is needed to invoke it. To fear death, one must understand what it is. One must have a comprehension of the future and an ability to think with abstraction. Most animal lack these abilities.
