Aron Ra: Indoctrination State: Countering Creationism in Texas

Aron Ra was raised in a mostly Mormon family, journeying to atheism via an array of religious denominations and spiritualities. Having grown up in an academic environment saturated by creationism, Aron was drawn to secular activism when the religious right gained control of the Texas Board of Education and began to influence curricula on history, health, science and social studies in textbooks used throughout America.
Aron is Texas State Director of American Atheists, author of the Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism KZread Series, and an internationally renowned speaker on topics such as evolution, truth, knowledge and belief.
This presentation was delivered at the Center for Inquiry on April 8th 2016.

If it doesn’t fulfill all these conditions at once, then it isn’t science. If it meets none of them, it could be religion.” ― Aron Ra, Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism Hey, empty Aron, you don't even know how you got here and how we got science. Then it gets even worse for you, you shallow person, you. Real science says nothing does nothing. Real science says if there was something there already it must fit with the evidence of what we know. We know the 1LT says there's a conservation of energy. It can change forms and neither can be created or destroyed. Creation cannot happen by natural means. The 2LT has various aspects, one being the universe is winding down, entropy. Usable energy is becoming less usable, so at one point usable energy was at its max. This all points to a supernatural creation, by a supernatural creator at a certain point in which matter, space and time were created. When I read how it can happen otherwise, ALL the fools resort to science-fiction. Once a supernatural creation is accepted, then the next step is finding proof of what supernatural power did it. The Christian God himself is worthy of hell's torment and is the greatest evil dictator to evil walk the earth if he exists. In Deuteronomy 3 and Numbers 31:7-18, God orders the killing and mass destruction of cities. Now you may argue they deserved it. You know who didn't? All the innocent male children God ordered the Israelites to kill. You wanna know what happened to the female children? They were given to the Israelites to be mercilessly raped. God is also extremely petty. Remember when the Israelites complained about the mana? God gave them quail until a mass of them died of it. If you know anything about a death like that it is slow and painful. If God could do that to his children though, I can do it to mine under justification from God himself. Just because it's not complete doesn't mean you can appeal to your skydaddy to fill in the blanks. Secondly, time and space weren't "created" per se. As of scientific understanding is today, the origin of what we call the universe can be traced back to a hot dense state followed by rapid expansion. This expansion follows conservation of energy. Lastly, the basis of science is axiomatic, as all things, meaning it starts at an unfalsifiable basis. All things have to be fundamentally axiomatic. The difference between science and religion is that the axioms science is based upon seem to continously prove utility to us, whereas things religious dogma never seem to, in a consistent way, be able to predict reality. People like you make me furious. Next time you get a horrible disease, try praying instead of relying on scientifically approved medicine and see where that gets you. I reached the part where God looked at Adam and decided all was good and wanted to provide him with a helpmeet. At that point my memory faded, and I stammered: 'He looked at Adam, and, er, and , er, er ,...... he decided to have another go.' The entire congregation roared with laughter - at me I thought and was deeply embarrassed. Later in life however, I was very impressed with my 4-year old self.

I have a ton of respect for you because you are doing what I have wanted to do since I was 11 years old. I was academically quite smart, especially in math and science. I lack the ability to speak well, because I am not very well read. My experience and street smarts comes from a lot of travelling. I was in Afghanistan in 1970 when I was 20. I watched Americans destroy the country way back then and put the icing on the cake many years later with Biden screwing that wonderful country. When I was there, I found out there was a synagogue in Kabul, which amazed me. I started asking the people what they knew about Jews and Judaism. None of them had any clue what I was talking about and I did not meet a single religious Muslim. The wife of the head of the postal service wore short skirts with absolutely no backlash. So where did Islam come from in the extreme way that it did? I am not up on that but I do know that before america got their claws into the afghani culture, there was minimal poverty and religion was not an issue. The destruction of the afghani economy by the inflation caused by American money taking advantage of the cheap deals available there. Only the minority doing business with westerners had money and the rest became poor and many left for Russian countries to be able to feed their children in communism. So islam invaded afghanistan as an opportunity to save the afghanis from the western destruction. EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY RUN BY RELIGIOUS GOVERNMENTS SELF DESTRUCT. America systematically destroys cultures and allows bad things to be welcomed with open arms by people desperate to feed their children. America is now being destroyed by religion sneaking in to its dying political system and rampant stupidity and ignorance. The problem is that we hear what's going on and we laugh at how stupid many Americans are. ITS NOT FUNNY.

Ra is a great example of a loser. “Religion demands complete conviction, but science advises against that. It demands understanding instead of belief, so it must be based on verifiable evidence; it must explain related observations with a measurable degree of accuracy; it must withstand continuous critical analysis in peer review; and it must be falsifiable too. As a newly accredited post-doctoral biochemist/biophysicist (well versed in molecular genetics and evolutionary theory) I found his rejection of overwhelmingly convincing evidence for an old earth and evolution in favour of religious fervour fascinating. He was a lovely fellow who suffered a substantial but necessary fall from grace. I lost my faith after studying systems of control, namely societal control, as religion was used as soft power but as the west became more imperial they switched to using education. While studying how power operates for both myself as I'm always looking for a good way to determine what's actually true and what's propaganda as societies are run on shared beliefs most of which are 100% made up like MONEY. Thus when I ran across the Flavian signature after already knowing how many links Christianity had to OTHER stories which pre date even Judaism I saw the SAME signature as what those in power and authority are using currently as power/authority NEVER die out they merely mutate into another form just like how creationism turned into intelligent design and how America has gone about creating the world's greatest empire without Americans knowing as we're against imperialism. Thus capitalism has been used to enslave all the nations in the world and free trade ONLY applies to smaller countries as ALL superpowers had significant time where they protected their own industries to allow them to build up to the pt they could compete. Thus whenever we CAN'T compete we DON'T as competition ONLY drives down quality and causes consolidation of power as you can NEVER have enough money or power when you view the world as everyone is either exploiting or being exploited. Thus it's FAR more difficult for you to be successful in America then in the Nordic countries as we're big on the stopping ppl from even competing idea as well as the rest of the western world as IF we AREN'T number one, then we attack and stop them like with the 5G competition. As all the BS about our security is ridiculous as they already have access as they laid the oceanic underwater cables and the FBI has spent over ten yrs trying to prove the Chinese control them with NO success. Or really OUR gov wants to spy on THEM, hence apple phones went from being some of the most secure and protected systems to being essentially the world's BEST bugging device along with FB, google, Twitter ALL engaging in spying, selling our data to the US gov and controlling what we think hence we're huge echo chambers as before I could actually study one side of a debate for weeks and change to the other side no problem with google, now I have to do a advanced search otherwise it'll ONLY bring up more of the same no matter how I phrase it. Thus I'm quite sure that many ppl believe that there ARE no other POV's at all as unlike me I KNOW there are, I just need to figure out how to force Google to show me them. Lol

Thus I was allowed to read anything non fiction. This taught me diversity in thought and that each side's arguments seem to be prove their point, thus I found out that in order to understand ANYTHING I MUST listen to as MANY POV's as possible from as MANY sides as possible since each enhances my understanding, and relays the info in a slightly different way which helps you to be able to both understand AND teach others better rather then parroting OTHER ppl's opinions. As unfortunately religion teaches you to mimic others and to totally glaze over when approached with certain POV's like evolution as I'm definitely been that person even while getting my degree in virology/microbiology, as it was SO ingrained. Thus MY views slowly evolved lol pun intended, since I began as absolutely 100% believing the earth was 6,000 yrs old, that there was a global flood, that God created man/animals etc etc... Even though my views were challenged from the beginning as most of my friends were NOT SDA but Catholic, non religious or Baptist/Evangelical and my family's views were radical even within SDA itself. Thus there was MANY a night were me and a born Catholic boy would talk ALL night about evolution at the age of 6. Yes I was ALWAYS into debating/challenging others ideas and had NO issues in doing SO, nor had issues with ppl NOT believing as I believed as I just thought they were misinformed and didn't have the evidence I had thus I was always trying to convince them that MY POV was right. NOT to "convert" them just as a scientist, as only ONE can be right and I definitely thought it was me but I was also extremely curious to know what THEY based their beliefs on as I never assumed they were dumb, only missing info. This curiousity lead to me gradually opening up to other ideas or more accurately NOT dismissing their ideas but allowing space for BOTH up to a point but I must tell you I had MUCH easier time researching the Bible and proving IT to have issues then dealing with evolution as that for me was just evidence that ppl are, well ppl which of course ALSO applied to the theory of evolution. Thus I was just waiting for the theory to prove itself wrong but I definitely still avoiding studying macro evolution as of course I believe in micro evolution since microbes transfer DNA/plasmids and consume any free floating DNA/plasmids hence the reason antibiotics shouldn't be used unless absolutely necessary as they cause fragmentation of cells directly into bloodstream/intercellular space which is then gobbled up by all the nearby microbes hence your immune system uses macrophages which eat the invaded whole and digest them. Now what actually changed my mind was of course NOT evolution in ANY way as I just didn't believe it had proven itself correct yet (or wrong) though I kept a eye out for new data as my goal is 100% to be as accurate as possible and to believe ONLY truth. This of course doesn't apply directly to evolution as I didn't find it convincing, or other non provable things like "does God exist or the supernational". What changed my mind was while doing research for a anime I'm creating which deals with issues of the day but with supernatural elements which were based on global spiritual beliefs found in ALL spiritual belief systems and religions. aka I wanted to show that we are NOT that different and that we can LEARN from each other since America especially has massive issues of learning about other anything. Thus we lack basic understanding of each other. This was from the pov of Asia specifically Japan/China, thus I had to learn about their civilizations as I wanted to promote each society learning from each other and becoming better bc of it as for me more knowledge is always preferable to less no matter how uncomfortable and challenging it might be to my current beliefs thus my beliefs have been evolving for decades. As I've always been a religion buff even since going to India when I was 14 as this totally changed my world view and means I had LOVE and curiousity for other groups and frankly more disgust towards the hypocrisy in my own group. These horrible treatment of each other in religion is what made me stop going to church when I was quite young much to my parents horror. They tried to force me but when I showed up in my bikini and a towel planning to sunbathe outside they relented bc obviously THAT would super embarassing for them. lol The more I learned about governance, societies, civilizations and religions the more I started asking questions about the source of religions as the Catholic church was and is going to be the bad guy which for me is easy as I was raised viewing them as NON Christian not that I didn't find ALL religious institutions disgusting in their control and abuse of others already. But this did play into my story, unfortunately for my bf I started asking VERY specific questions (as this all devolved into studying systems of control as this applies across all fields I was researching AND is the most interesting as I'm always looking for ways to weed out bad info and manipulation/control /propaganda) one of these questions was WHY was the gospels written by obviously Roman taught scholars and showed up when Rome was dealing with the Jewish Messianic rebellion none of which are known WHO wrote them. Thus I ran into the Flavian signature, this for me was the final straw as I already viewed the Bible as being VERY flawed as ppl are PEOPLE and I trust in the study of human behavior over most other things especially their motives. But after studying systems of power/control, civilizations for the last 3 YEARS, I saw immediately the SAME signature I'd been seeing across the globe in EVERY power/authority structure for the SAME purpose. As well as being intimately familiar with the degree of overlap from much OLDER religions though I'd treated it as PROOF that God exists NOT proof against as I believed that God was propagating the story of salvation to every ppl OR that they ALL must have know each other thus pointing to Genesis being correct.

Thankfully the liberal movement, women and gay rights are ireversibly going forward, together with the atheism movement that's on unprecedanted rise. Sure, there will be resistance and some of the southern states will fight back but like history thought us many times things simply do change. We concquered slavery, we abolished segregation, we recently got a first gay governor. There's that last boundary, a first atheist President although we already most probably had an atheist President but he of course couldn't have said that he was one (Kennedy, Clinton, Obama....)... @@a_name662 Thank God I live in Europe. Here, a politician ending a speech with "and god bless" can pretty much kiss his career good bye. We actually had a (conservative) politician that thought too loudly in a speech about pondering considering tentatively trying to add something along the lines of creationism into the curriculum. The next day she "decided to resign from her political positions for personal reasons"...

Beliefs should be based on evidence. Ra does not follow evidence. “Religion demands complete conviction, but science advises against that. It demands understanding instead of belief, so it must be based on verifiable evidence; it must explain related observations with a measurable degree of accuracy; it must withstand continuous critical analysis in peer review; and it must be falsifiable too. Aron does not know BASIC science. Not only can't we have creation without God, Aron does not know that we also can't have science without God. The laws of nature can only come from a Lawgiver, God.

    1) US law was based on British Common law & its constitional monarchy. 2) Jefferson compiled all of the quotes of Christ. Washington went to church weekly. 3) At the time, there existed "deists." They believed in a God who was too busy to care about mankind. 4) Concerning the speaker's mention of "reason," theology itself is "faith seeking reason." Theology gives the reason why certain doctrines exist. Plus, the Bible defines "reason" as wisdom. Wisdom is required; not the mindless adherence to any set of doctrines. If it doesn't have a reason why it is so, then it's false doctrine. Plus, false doctrines contain contradictions.
