The fact that a Twitch streamer stood toe-to-toe with the world chess champion gives hope to the rest of us 🥲 Truly, the greatest chess bromance of all time. All jokes aside though, good luck against Wesley, Hikaru!

The fact hikaru finished the match then immediately recorded this😂

Magnus bidding 8:58 vs Hikaru's 8:59 is one of the sickest soul reads ever! More impressive than the chess games.
@govindraokulkarni

I have seen that winning bid is always some auto decrement (could be 1 sec here) apart from the next best. Meaning, if Hikaru puts a new bid as let's say 8 min 45 secs, he would still see Magnus winning by 8 min 44 secs if his actual bid is lower ( for example, if Magnus's original bid is 8 min 30 sec, this would happen). When multiple folks are involved, you'll always see the top bid beating the next by some auto increment / decrement. The actual value gets revealed only when it is beaten. In other words, if a Hikaru's bid would have been lower here, you would have seen the Magnus's actual bid.

@@govindraokulkarni that just isnt how armageddon bidding works if you bid 8:30 against 9:00, you'd get 8:30 on the clock because you're taking that risk in time deficit in order to be able to play for draw odds if the bid was an autodecrement, there's nothing stopping either player from bidding incredibly low -because if the other player bids higher, they end up with a good sum of time anyways which is just dumb- edit: just realized my last statement was a little confusing but basically you end up bidding at like very low time in order to put your opponent on like 2 seconds vs 15 minutes

That is incredibly devastating that Hikaru lost the bid by 1 second. Magnus doesn’t just know how to look 40 moves ahead, he knows how to look ahead of Hikaru.

What a match, you defended some really precarious positions. It was fun to watch.
What's truly fascinating is you both knew you'd need 9 minutes with the bidding due to being so closely matched. Both then realized that psychologically people tend to bid rounded times so you sacrificed one second for a higher chance of undercutting Magnus' bid. Yet he somehow anticipated you'd do that and went one second below. That's nuts.
OK can we appreciate just how FAST hikaru put the content out? Also as usual , great content.

Great recap of the game. I really like how you go into your through proccesses for key moments and why you chose one move over another.
The 8:58 call was amazing. Magnus is in his head
The most outstanding move was the one second outbid. You still got this hikaru!

Such a hype set! Went to armageddon and only 1 second between bids! Really hoping for a rematch in grands (also love the double elim format in chess btw)
Great match! Interesting to see the different strategy in the Armageddon games!
Great recap, right after the game! I hope to see you come back for a revanche with Magnus
Thank you so much for these recaps! We learn a lot!
MAN!!! The 8:58 bid was the craziest thing EVER!!!
I found it interesting that black had 100% winrate in all Armageddon games in the tour so far which suggests most players don't bid low enough and undervalue having black. i think bidding as low as 7 minutes or even slightly lower might be strategically advantageous

Great games Hikaru! It's a pleasure to see you two greats play at a such high level.
I gotta say that although GM Hikaru doesn't win every single game, he is still so fun to watch especially the disrespect video
I've been loving your content and I'm roped back into being a chess fanboy. So cool that one of the top players in the world is such a great and prolific content creator.
Every time I had a question about an alternative plan you answered why the move or moves might not be ideal. Great video!
Your matches was absolutely wild. Cannot wait to see you vs magnus in the grand finals. Let's goooo!!!
I hope both of you send a virtual hug
Nothing from hearing from the direct source. The bid was probably the craziest bid in chess for many years to come
The grind on the board at this stage of the competition looks brutal. It's amazing to see how you're able to calmly, objectively and professionally face the outcome of the games so soon after wrapping up. Hope you find the good moves today!
We live in such good times for chess! Thanks for helping us to see this game at a whole different level!
Was a great watch, I felt like whoever got the black pieces was going to hold in Armageddon as you both did yesterday. Good luck tomorrow against Arjun or Wesley and hopefully you earn a rematch against Magnus in the Grand Final.
i love those videos about this couple playing chess
Hikaru loves those right triangles!
I can’t believe it came down to 1 second with the time bids.
@GMHikaru.. A question, do you prepare like you used to before or is it less than before/little to no prep at all. If it's the latter then do you go in with your existing library of knowledge and improvise to find the best moves in any given situation?
ur actually good at explaining chess for dummies like me. If im good at something and i try to explain something, alot is a given to me so i forget to explain it. Good job dude.

you said it perfectly: for a retired chess player and no 1 chess streamer to perform at this highest level is the most important aspect. chapeaux! great job! finger crossed for today!
Getting underbid by 1 second probably determined the result.
Thanks for the recap. Good luck tomorrow.
"i dont have to win, we both just have to draw"
9:26 “but again, I’m not a computer.” I don’t believe you. Especially when there’s like 50 arrows drawn on the board.
