Record high numbers of pedestrians being fatally struck from vehicles. This never used to happen when drivers feared getting ticketed speeding. Just because no cop is on every corner monitoring the speed limit doesn't mean it's a wise idea to be driving to where you can't stop in time. Walking and riding a bike with ear buds in is another accident waiting to happen because you won't be able to hear the vehicle approaching you. Be safe out there!

Look, I get it, the driver really messed up - BUT by the same token YOU as a pedestrian MUST assume every car on the road is trying to hit you. YOU as the pedestrian actually has the upper hand because you can see in all directions, and you have the ability to take immediate evasive action - PROVIDED you are NOT on your cell phone or have ear buds in your ears or are daydreaming. Look, if you want to workout and ZONE out, go to a local track - that's what I do when I want to run and "zone out" with earbuds - but if I'm on the streets, I'm tracking every single car and my JOB is to make sure that car does not hit me. It's like a baseball player dodging a wild pitch. By the same token if you're a driver, you have to ASSUME each pedestrian is going to run in front of you just as you approach them and be ready to STOP on a dime. If you see a kid up in the distance you as a driver need to go into EXTREME caution mode, because kids have been know to just "dart" in any direction.

@@paanne1013 That was very smart of you and I hope others followed your example. The bottom line is this - the LAWS of PHYSICS supersede man's laws. It make NO difference of what "the government" has to say about ANYTHING when comparing it to the laws of science. A human body is NO MATCH for 3000 LBS of metal going 50 MPH - legal/illegal makes no difference, if you get hit by a moving car, BAD things will happen to you. Look, I feel BAD for the guy who got hit - and YES the guy who hit him should turn himself in - but had the victim tracked that car with his eyes and waited until the car passed before crossing, we would not be having this "conversation". And another thing, in past years, it was mainly drunk drivers as the culprit. Now you got people driving AND on their phones at the same time. It's so bad that people will be glued to their phones and the stoplight turns green and they just sit there. Sometimes they sit there and the light turns RED again. There's absolutely NO WAY a driver who is glued to their phone can be cognizant of pedestrians - NO WAY.

@@AcidHead710 Well I'm a voluntarist and I do NOT consider myself a "citizen". I'm what some would call a "political atheist". Also, I absolutely 100% REFUSE to take part in "elections", so I don't know if that's "political" or not. The great thing about being a voluntarist, is I get to call things with 100% objectivity. My OBJECTIVE perspective on the matter is the pedestrian has to rely Soley on HIMSELF and ONLY himself {or herself}. The SAME thing applies if you're a cyclist. Many times as a cyclist I'll go against traffic and I don't care if a "cop" flags me down or not and I don't care what "the law" is. I'll go fight it in court if that's how far the cop wants to take it. No way am I riding a bicycle going 15 MPH in the same direction as cars going 55 MPH. Don't care what the State's "law" is. If I'm going with the traffic, that means that EVERY car will blow by me BLIND. 100's and 100's of cars blowing past me and I am NOT able to see a situation where I just head for the ditch. However, if I'm see cars come at me, and one swerves towards me, I can just go for the ditch and yes I might be banged up, but I should be able to walk away. because man's "law" is SECOND to the LAWS OF PHYSICS. And I probably just made a lot of cops mad - OH WELL GET OVER IT.
