The power of words to control our emotions can be therapeutic to our mental health;
✅ “I'm here for you.”
✅ “You are not alone.”
✅ “You are worthy and deserving.”
✅ “You don't have to apologize.”
✅ “There is treatment available to you…”
✅ “You are strong!.”

    Can I just say, I love the raw honesty of Mate (and the interviewer), and how he has to identify his own mother as the root of some of his childhood/adulthood issues but he doesn’t dishonour her with these statements, he clearly loved and respected her (I believe she has now past). As a stressed mother raising my own child (now adult) I hope one day he will see the true clarity of our situation and appreciate I too did my best under challenging circumstances as he grows through adulthood. Ultimately, they are all life lessons on each of our paths. For a brilliant academic, Mate has a fantastic bedside manner (if you think of YT viewers as patients) and a great way of explaining & simplifying complicated human behaviours. What pains me about life (which I need to get a grip of and process) is all that exquisite education in his brain goes the day he leaves this lifetime which seems the most insane part of life to me. Yeah, I know, he will leave behind children, treated patients, books, academic papers etc but still…

    With much respect for Gabor's work and the work of many others, I can't help thinking about the enormous percentage of people who don't have access to the help he recommends. What percentage of therapists even have the skills for the work? They are a completely unsupervised profession. And they make more money if you depend on them for a long time... Most can't afford to do that and others living in places where there is no access. For myself, even if I had access I wouldn't do it. I've had enough of that. But that doesn't mean I have given up on myself, far from it. But with the persistent message I keep hearing from the trauma experts, I can't see people not giving up. I have just had experiences that were exceptional and my hope comes from that. So yes Gabor's words are intended to give us hope, but , and there is a big "but" who has the resources? It's a bit elitist and incomplete. One of the problems with psychology is that there is such an intense emphasis on research, to prove that this field is backed by science. But all you really have is correlations. There are too many variables to to be real science. And then there is the need to keep spiritual beliefs out of the mix. But people have spiritual beliefs! Are we going to continue like Freud and disregard, because he was an atheist? To talk about healing and not talk about the spiritual is absurd to some of us. To talk about meditation as a practice and not about the spiritual is pretty absurd also. It's not like nobody has healed from trauma without the help of "professionals". Of course they have. Oprah does us the favor of giving us advice that is not elitist and not devoid of the spiritual. She knows a lot about trauma as do most black people. They must be looking at all the clueless, self pitying white people and rolling their eyes up. "Lord give me patience." They have so much experience with overcoming trauma and seeing what happens if a person doesn't heal. We should be looking at the black culture for answers. We should be looking at artists who have used their art to recover. The academic culture of psychologists and therapists should be looked at with a certain skepticism. They don't have to tell us who they are...... They might not even know who they are. Gabor is the exception and I thank him for that.

Needless to say there is nothing like seeing the cruetly erupt through your own hand to get you to REALLY decide it's time to take a scalpel to the psyche and LOOK at the stuff been avoiding. What a MONSTER I could be .. Now I love everyone. We all have been hurt. Some folks are more sensiitve and others less so. So even a horrible murderer is a freaked out little kid .. Just like me when I have raised my hand in rage. And now things are different. And changing month by month. YEARS of living a mess I can't expect it to be perfect overnight. My wouldn't little kid is learning to trust me. After over five deceades. I have HOPE that is REAL. :D PS. and eye laughed at the shoulder tap analogy because I imagine the tap to be some dude with his fly open and in the next moment there is bloodshed. O love creepypastas! Heheeheh

    Thank you, I’m like that too, I sometimes think I’m analysing people. But I think I’m just trying to understand there actions. I have come across a narcissist, extreme tendencies. Yes we all narcs in someway or another. Instead of judging him, I found myself thinking “why are you like that, where did you learn that from” as I observed him, I didn’t take his “character” personally. He’s alright, yeh extremely self absorbed and selfish but that aside, he’s an alright guy. My baby sensitive, more so than my other kids. She couldn’t handle angry environments. She’s 10 now, but extremely wise for her age, still a child of course but sometimes she says things that are well beyond her years. I would never tell her that she’s sensitive or gifted. She would play with that in her head and try to make an identity for herself out of it.

    Dr. Mate is a true healer, a genius who's understanding of human nature is clear characterized by down to earth common sense and personifies compassion and wisdom. The Buddha's statement "all of life is suffering" points toward the association between suffering and attachment, that the relinquishing of attachment is transcendence of the egoic mind as the entrance to Nirvana, of which I am unconvinced is possible without psychedelics asthe Buddha ate a mushroom before passing from the mortal coil. One important distinction I discovered regarding suffering is that there are 2 types of suffering, requisite suffering , which is inevitable and unavoidable, that when one is clear and allows suffering to pass through without holding on, is generally tolerable and more akin to temporary discomfort than the endurance of protracted pain that characterizes suffering and then there is excessive suffering to which one maintains and exacerbates attachment to trauma that is internalized, repressed into denial and becomes a fixture of identity where the sufferer is trapped in a web of lies, distortions and exaggerations.
