Are You Looking For A SIMPLER Life?

Jason and Yvonne, continue their simpler life adventure - leaving their city life and corporate jobs behind and moving over the sea to a Tiny island 3 hour ferry ride off the west coast of Scotland
This Tiny Scottish Island really is remote and Unexpected. Jason is joined on his beach walk by a herd of local cows not the sort of thing you expect on your average day. And we give you a whistle stop tour of Scarinish the main group of buildings on the Island
It was the week on this Tiny Scottish Isle when nothing happened. But it turns out nothing happening is harder work than you think.

    Thank you for the "feel-good" videos from Tiree. Your life on the island may not always be as easy as you imagined, but it seems so fulfilling. I envy you big time. At one point in time I really tried to do what you have done, but my hubby was not on the same page while I had a chance to do it. Now I have no hubby, but I am 81 years old and have children and grandchildren, so it is somehow still not an option. Sometimes I regret that I didn't choose the life I coveted instead of choosing the hubby, when I had to make a choice. It could have worked if I had changed to a more adventurous hubby first, and then started the new way of life... Videos like yours are a comfort to watch. Thank you again for your effort.

    🙂I have not yet seen any traces of fishing boats or fishermen/women. Are there any? Also where and how children are going to school, or if they are home schooled. Do you have to go to the mainland do get healthcare, or is a doctor or nurse living on the isle of Tiree? In short- all the things people who would like to follow your example want to find out about their new place. If not British, what are the chances that you will be permitted to buy or build a house on a Scottish island? (I expect it to take several videos to give all the answers...)

    While sipping my morning coffee this Saturday, I am for some reason wondering about the level of support for Scottish independence on your island. I know too little about the resources and finances of Scotland to form an opinion on my own- I am simply curious. So- if possible, it would be interesting to see a small unpolitical survey of the opinions and arguments of some Tiree inhabitants. Are there fervent advocates and opponents, or do people in general seem to have a lukewarm interest in the matter?

  • @SimpleLifeScotland

    @SimpleLifeScotland

    @@upstream1942 We tend to stay away from anything political at all, life is too short to get caught up in debates that have been going on for 100s of years. Scotland voted on it a few years ago and it ended up they said we'll stay as part of the UK. Who knows what will happen in the future. historically if you go back "Traditional historical accounts of the origin of the Scotttish kingdom states that the Scots founded the early kingdom of Dal Riata in western Scotland having migrated there from north eastern Antrim, Ireland. In the process they displaced a native Pictish or British people from an area roughly equivalent to modern Argyll." take a look at this site for more info electricscotland.com/history/articles/scotsirish.htm Ultimately there is an ebb and flow of people and places. In the grand scheme of things nothing stays the same. I think most forget that everything is always changing that is just the nature of the human condition.

    Questions - the tall (relatively) mast with dishes on it, is that for Internet/phone or airport or something else? When you and Yvonne are sitting on the bench, are you looking over to Mull or what is the mass across the water from you there? When you drive from your home to the first shop, Buth Bhaile, how long does that take? Thanks a bunch for taking us shopping with you. I wonder how many people realise about one-track roads and passing places - and how courteous drivers spot someone approaching and like you will pull into the passing place and wait so that the person in the car approaching can continue without stopping. Also if you are curious what it is like to live in a very remote place where owner of only store has huge effort with danger just to regularly stock the store, look for the video about Bolivia, On Top of the World - now that store owner really has her work just to keep her store stocked!
