Are We Living in the Last Days with Gary Demar (Hank Unplugged Podcast)

Are we living in the last days? Many people point to the deluge of disorder and division in the world today as evidence that we are living in the last days. However, this is often the result of sacred scripture being taken out of context. Misunderstandings about the end times (eschatology) have been widely propagated by a seemingly endless stream of end-times prophecies and popular books such as the Left Behind series by Tim LaHaye. Hank Hanegraaff is joined by end times expert Gary DeMar to clear up the confusion regarding the last days by discussing what the Bible really says about the end times and why it matters today.
Topics discussed include: The geopolitical consequences of eschatological beliefs and the Middle East deals being made by President Trump (4:20); what is dispensational eschatology? (6:10); discussing Israel and the Church--are there two distinct people of God? (8:00); another holocaust of Jews and the terror of rapture theories (10:35); the influence of Tim LaHaye and the Left Behind series on rapture beliefs (13:30); where do rapture beliefs come from? (16:25); the Russian invasion of Israel in dispensational ideology (20:10); dispensationalism and the idea of replacement theologians (26:00); apocalyptic language--should we interpret the Bible literally? (30:20); what was Jesus telling His disciples in the Olivet discourse? (32:55); why do some sceptics call Jesus a false apocalyptic prophet? (38:35); translation issues in the Olivet discourse such as mistaking the end of a period of time for the end of the world (42:00); how can so many dispensationalists misread the Bible? (54:50); many people and churches distanced themselves from Hank Hanegraaff when he wrote his book The Apocalypse Code (1:06:30); reading and understanding the Bible in the light that the Bible was not written to us, but it was written for us (1:07:40); using the Bible to interpret the Bible (1:14:10); do we find the ideas from Left Behind and the rapture in the Olivet discourse? (1:16:20); misunderstanding the Book of Revelation (1:14:20); what is the key to understanding the Book of Revelation? (1:24:45); Hanegraaff discusses the phrase Exegetical Eschatology as written about in his book The Apocalypse Code: Find Out What the Bible REALLY Says About the End Times... and Why It Matters Today (1:33:10).

Multiple Second Coming Visions in Revelation: (book not in chronological order ) Christ returns one time in the future. However, there are several different visions of His return shown from different perspectives in the Book of Revelation. Christ returns at the end of Revelation chapter 6, with signs in the sun, moon, and stars, as are found in the Olivet Discourse. Those at the end of the chapter are hiding from the wrath of the Lamb. Why would they be hiding if Christ is not present? The "kings", "captains", "might men", "free", and "bond" are also found in chapter 19 at the return of Christ. He returns at the 7th trumpet, which is the last trumpet in the Bible, and the time of the judgment of the dead in Revelation 11:15-18. The beginning of chapter 12 is a history lesson containing the fall of Satan, and the birth and death of Christ, who is the seed promised to crush the head of Satan in Genesis 3:15. The Second Coming is found in the "harvest" of chapter 14, which is related to the parable of the wheat and tares in Matthew chapter 13. He comes as a thief at Armageddon, and we find the greatest earthquake in history in chapter 16. This occurs when the 7th angel pours out his vial. How powerful is an earthquake which moves islands and destroys the mountains? What is happening to the planet? He comes on a horse in chapter 19. Chapter 20? Does He come with the fire, and the judgment of the dead at the end of chapter 20, which agrees with what Paul said in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10, and 2 Timothy 4:1? (The time of the judgment of the dead is also found in Revelation 11:18.) There are no mortals left alive on the planet at the end of Matthew 25:31-46. Why does an angel come down from heaven with a key to unlock the bottomless pit in Revelation 9:1-2, if the pit was not already locked before that time? Are there wicked angels in the pit in Rev. 9:11? If the beast "ascends" from the pit in Rev. chapter 11, where was the beast before that time? Does your view agree with Peter in 2 Pet. 2:4, and Jude in Jude 1:6, when they both said wicked angels are already in chains of darkness? Revelation 9:14 proves some of the angels were previously bound in some manner. Because the two witnesses were bodily resurrected from the dead in Revelation 11, the "first resurrection" at the beginning of Revelation 20 is not the first bodily resurrection in the book. The principle of "Recapitulation" means there are multiple visions of His return. ====================================== New Covenant Whole Gospel: Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him. He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth. Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis? Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart. Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36) We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24. 1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. Watch the KZread videos “The New Covenant” by David Wilkerson, or Bob George, and David H.J. Gay.

Olivet Timing Revealed by Luke’s Gospel: Compare Luke's Gospel to that of Matthew if you want to understand the timing. The disciples asked two different questions. When will the temple be destroyed? What will be the sign of your Second Coming? Jesus Foretells Destruction of the Temple (These subtitles are found in e-Sword.) Luk 21:5 Then, as some spoke of the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and donations, He said, Luk 21:6 "These things which you see-the days will come in which not one stone shall be left upon another that shall not be thrown down." (Mat 24:2 And Jesus said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down." ) Luk 21:7 So they asked Him, saying, "Teacher, but when will these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to take place?" (Mat 24:3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?") ( Mar 13:3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately, Mar 13:4 "Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign when all these things will be fulfilled?") Luk 21:8 And He said: "Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He,' and, 'The time has drawn near.' Therefore do not go after them. (Mat 24:5 For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. ) Luk 21:9 But when you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately." (Mat 24:6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.) Jesus Foretells Wars and Persecution Luk 21:10 Then He said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. (Mat 24:7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. ) Luk 21:11 And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. (Mat 24:7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. ) Luk 21:12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name's sake. (Mat 24:9 "Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake.) (Read Acts 22:19-20, where Paul reveals that he fulfilled this text.) Luk 21:13 But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony. Luk 21:14 Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; Luk 21:15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist. Luk 21:16 You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. Luk 21:17 And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. (Mat 24:10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. ) Luk 21:18 But not a hair of your head shall be lost. Luk 21:19 By your patience possess your souls. (Mat 24:13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.) Jesus Foretells Destruction of Jerusalem Luk 21:20 "But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. (Mat 24:15 "Therefore when you see the 'ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand), (Look at the reference to Hanukkah in John 10:22, if you want to know what the Jews of Jesus time understood about Antiochus Ephiphanes attacking the city during 167 BC, when his forces killed thousands of Jews, and stopped the sacrifices. Those two things also happened during 70AD.) Luk 21:21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. (Mat 24:16 "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.) Luk 21:22 For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. Luk 21:23 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. (See also Luke 23:28-31.) (Mat 24:19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! ) Luk 21:24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. (Almost all Bible scholars agree that the first part of the verse above is about 70 AD. At the end of the verse we find a period of time known as “the times of the Gentiles”. In the verses that follow we find the future Second Coming of Christ. Paul also referred to this time period in Romans 11:25, and Acts 28:28.) The Coming of the Son of Man Luk 21:25 "And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; (Mat 24:29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.) Luk 21:26 men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Luk 21:27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. (Mat 24:30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.) Luk 21:28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near." (Mat 24:33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near-at the doors!)

@@P.H.888 Hyper-Preterism Unmasked: Is Matthew 10:23 about 70 AD, or is it about Jesus coming as the King to Israel? The answer is found below in Zech. 9:9. Did Jesus "cometh" as the King of Israel riding on a donkey during the week He was crucified? If Matthew 10:23 is about 70 AD, Peter ignored the commandment given by Jesus in Matthew 10:5-7, when Peter went to the house of Cornelius. It did not take the disciples forty years to take the Gospel to Israel. In Romans 1:16 Paul said the Gospel was taken "first" to the Jews. This time period of the Gospel going "first" to Israel is found in Matt. 10:5-23, and Acts chapter 2, and Acts 10:36-38, and Galatians 1:14-18. Zec 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. The Old Covenant age died at Calvary when God ripped the temple veil in half from the top to the bottom at the moment His Son died at Calvary. There is no record in the NT of any person coming to salvation outside of the New Covenant between Calvary and 70 AD. Hebrews 7:12 proves there was a change in the law before 70 AD. We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant Church of Mount Zion and the blood of Jesus in Hebrews 12:22-24. This passage was written in the present tense before 70 AD. If the Hyper-Preterists (Full-Preterists) were correct the Old Covenant age would come back into existence if a temple were rebuilt, and animal sacrifices are renewed. Any basic book on Astronomy proves we are not now living in the "eternal" New Heavens and New Earth, because the sun only has a limited amount of nuclear fuel. We now understand the nuclear reaction inside the core of the sun, because of the testing of thermonuclear weapons.

Hank, Gary, You guys are true heroes of faith, standing up for what you see as clear Biblical truth regardless of the consequences. "The world will end next year" sells way more books than, "focus on salvation and sanctification". I was a Dispensational thinker for decades and passages like that "this generation shall not pass" always gave me trouble. Slowly, over a period I was exposed to the same eschatology as yours and finally had to give up on this Tim Lahay "Christian X-Files" theology of despair. I can't go back to it because knowledge carefully learned cannot be unlearned.

The Preterist view shows that the 'great tribulation' or time of great trouble is past and that the Matt parables show the kingdom of God will grow to fill the whole earth. It does not mean there will be no tribulation for saints or nations over time but the 'last days madness' that grips many Christians with paralyzing fear is actually all about the judgement on unbelieving Israel. This view is one of great hope. Christ's resurrection and the gift of the Holy Spirit to dwell within believers over the whole earth does have an impact and it's not hopeless. Satan does not win, he will not win. He will not overcome. Christ has and does. Christ is seated enthroned with the Father and He waits til the earth is subdued to His reign, til all is brought into subjection. Jesus said 'even the very gates of Hell will not resist'. That is a powerful message. Christ's kingdom is not in retreat. Satan is.

I feel like I've been duped by people who are just hoping they'll experience the tribulation in their own lifetime. I've been caught up in that mindset myself because it would be nice for the evils of this world to finally come to an end. However I've come across more scholarly discourse along these lines over the last couple of years that are opening my eyes and I can't ignore it. It doesn't help that the Left Behind type stories were so popular in my early years. I don't dwell on this topic since no one really knows when Jesus is coming back. The main thing is I don't want to give too much time to incorrect interpretation which can lead people down wrong doctrine. I'm searching for correct teaching that can hold up to debate and scholarly research. Your discussion seems to pass in that regard.

Gay.

Having said that, I’m thankful for this discussion. My question is, is there any Bible texts that you and Gary believe, refer to the literal second advent of Christ? As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they did not know until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of man. Then two men will be in the field; one is taken and one is left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one is taken and one is left. Allow for your relationship with God to grow and He will reveal more and more as you seek him. We will not understand all at once as demonstrated in the Bible. • @BibleAnswerMan

    @BibleAnswerMan

    11 ай бұрын

@grits8284 Good question. The commentary from Irenaeus implied in your question is disputed on whether John who received the vision was last seen on Patmos or the vision received by John happened on Patmos. If Irenaeus meant John was last witnessed on Patmos, then the vision (i.e., Book of Revelation) would have been written prior to that occasion, the best timeframe being AD 67/68. The Book of Revelation indicates John wrote down the vision and the immediate addresses were the seven churches in Asia-Minor. Written copies of the book were circulated throughout the church. There was also oral transmission, so the Apocalypse was committed to memory and shared in the fellowships.

Any thoughts on the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven in Matthew 13? Some dispensationalists teach that the earthly Jewish Davidic kingdom goes into a mystery form during the church age because Israel rejected their king and right now and all we have as the church is the kingdom of God in a spiritual form. The kingdom of heaven will be restored sometime in the future at the 2nd advent and the restoration of Israel. Thoughts?

Totally incorrect. Scriptures never teach two distinct peoples of God, one belonging to Israel and the other to the Church. This is the interpretive grid dispensationalism uses to interpret the Bible, but Hank is skeptical about making such a distinction on the basis of race. "why do some sceptics call Jesus a false apocalyptic prophet? (38:35)" Another claim, though, is that people of the time likewise thought Jesus was coming back bodily, and then he didn't. (Afterwards apparently came the alleged "damage control" of, "a day is as a thousand years..." as they also love to point out.) If this is so, why wouldn't believers have understood the apocalyptic language for what it really was at the time?

@Christmas, 1914 The problem has to do with a general misapprehension of “coming in the clouds” as referring exclusively to Christ’s Second Coming and the skeptics charge that Jesus taught His return would happen in the life time of the disciples, but that failed to occur. They misunderstood Jesus’ teaching on “coming in the clouds.” See the following article… www.equip.org/bible_answers/is-coming-on-clouds-a-reference-to-christs-second-coming/

Not that we know of. Typically the Bible prophecy teachers who make false prediction simply readjusted the prediction to a later date, and very few noticed, neither do they ever remember the false prediction ever being pronounced. Once upon a time, the establishment of modern Israel in 1948 marked the generation that would see Christ’s return and started the countdown to the rapture. The 40-year generation minus the 7-year tribulation made the timing of the rapture in 1981. 1981 came and went but no rapture. The false predictors then re-adjusted their timeline to the Six-Day-War in 1967. Thus, the 40 year generation minus the 7 year tribulation made the timing of the rapture 2001. 2001 came and went but no rapture. So, recalculations kept going. Some use the enigmatic Mayan Calendar. Recalculation still keep coming. The common denominator is every prediction made has been wrong 100% of the time.

Hank; The best to you, brother. I am a helpmate; May God richly bless you. We are one in Christ. We are equal and partners in this greatest of all blessings through our Lord and God Jesus Christ: salvation. We sow the Gospel and God reaps! The world needs the Gospel! The good news that our sins have been paid for by Jesus Christ on the cross in the shedding of His sinless blood and His death, burial and resurrection never to die again. Let us go out into this world and preach the Gospel as Jesus commanded we do. God blesses us now and in eternity! (See "Rewards" at end of comment) This praise resounds across the earth: "Jesus is Lord and only He saves". 2 Samuel chapter 22: Verse 50 "Therefore I will praise you, O Lord, out of the countries, and I will praise your name." THE GOSPEL BELIEVED SAVES! God the Son (Jesus Christ) has given us the gospel to share with the world. Mark chapter 16: Verse 15: And He said unto them, Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. How can anyone hear the "good" news? Romans chapter 10: verse 17 Then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Isaiah chapter 7: verse 14: "Therefore the LORD shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and call His name Immanuel." Hebrew: עִמָּנוּאֵל, "God with us" in human flesh but without sin. The Savior of the world was born to die for our sins! He did so 33 years later. His terrible ordeal; body mutilated; blood poured out, finally died and was placed in a tomb and rose from the dead the 3rd day ! "HE IS RISEN" Matthew chapter 28: verse 6. Isaiah chapter 53: verse 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. - IT IS FOUNDED UPON GOD'S LOVE FOR MAN AND WOMAN HE CREATED John chapter 3: Verse 16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Romans chapter 3: verse 23 " For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans chapter 6: verse 23 " Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.."John chapter 14.verse 6 "1 Corinthians chapter 15: verse 3 "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" THE PAYMENT BY HIS BLOOD FOR ALL SINS EVER! And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John chapter 2: verse 2 Romans chapter 5:verse 8 But God demonstrates his love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, now justified by his blood, we will be saved from wrath through him." “For he (God) hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians chapter 5:verse 21. " In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;." Ephesians chapter 1:verse 7 Matthew chapter 26:verse 28 "For this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." (the life is in the blood. He had to pay with His life) "And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness." Hebrews chapter 9:verse 22 BY GOD'S GRACE ALONE THROUGH FAITH ALONE IN JESUS CHRIST ARE WE SAVED Ephesians chapter 2:verse 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast. Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sins and rescue us from eternal death. Because of Jesus' death on our behalf, all we have to do is believe in Him, trusting in His death and in the shedding of His blood as payment for our sins, as well as in His resurrection from the dead, and we will be saved! John chapter 20: verses 24-31 WHOSOEVER BELIEVES SHALL TESTIFY TO THE TRUTH Romans 10: 9 That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart man believes in righteousness; And a confession by mouth is given for salvation. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. TO DIE IS TO REJECT SALVATION IN JESUS CHRIST AND BE SEPARATE FROM GOD FOREVERMORE Salvation and forgiveness of sins is the blessing of anyone who believes in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Those who reject the free gift of salvation, see John chapter 3: verse 16 above, "perish", which means their sins are judged by God the Son and they suffer eternal separation from God and the family of God forever called the "second death". Revelation chapter 21: verse 8. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. ”Romans chapter 5:verse 1 REWARDS: There is a Crown in Heaven awaiting all who faithfully share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a soul is saved. ( "THE GOSPEL SAVES" below) 1 Thessalonians chapter 2:verse 19-20; Philippians chapter 4:verse 1. So too be Rapture ready to meet Jesus Christ in the air. "Maranatha!" meaning "HE COMES". Mark chapter 13: verses 33-37. The Apostles and saints greeted one another that way! Proofs:John chapter 14: verse 1-3; Titus chapter 2:verses 11 -14; Rev.chapter 3:verse 10; 1 Thessalonians chapter 5:verse 9. I am learning so much listening to Gary. I do have one comment. I’ve heard Gary mention the lack of any reason to believe there may be a gap in the 70 weeks we read about in Daniel 9. I suggest that there may be an implied gap as it the weeks are written as being segmented; sixty two weeks and one week. That a gap may be implied by the way they are separated as written cannot be ruled out.

I have a question on Daniel 9. Verse 25 talks about the building and restoring of Jerusalem unto the Messiah shall be 7 weeks and 62 weeks. The next verse says Messiah is cut off after 62 weeks. It implies that at the end of the 62nd week Messiah will be killed. Just a thought, so please don’t crucify me. Maybe what Daniel is explaining is there will be 7 weeks (49 years) of Jerusalem being rebuilt and restored, but it is also the 62 week. If that were true then the statement given by the Jews in John 2:20 would make perfect sense. When Jesus spoke of the temple being destroyed and raised up in 3 days, the Jews response was 46 years this temple has been being built and you shall destroy it and raise it back up in 3days. This was the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. 3 years later would be 49 years and we know Jesus was ministering for approx 3 years before he was crucified. This would put his death after the 62 week and after the 7 weeks of the restoration. Which fits perfectly. That would also give from the 63rd to the 70th week for the persecution of Christ followers and the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD. Just a thought. I’m not sure if Gary will see this but I pray he does. I would like to hear his insight.

Based on Hebrews 9:15, the Messiah’s death in Daniel 9:26 cannot be separated from the New Covenant fulfilled by His blood at Calvary. Is the New Covenant found in Daniel chapter 9? Are we supposed to believe the angel Gabriel appeared to Daniel to reveal the timeline of the Messiah who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34, and then the angel failed to even mention the New Covenant. Or, is the covenant with the many in Daniel 9:27 the same covenant with the many in Matthew 26:28? The 1599 Geneva Bible is the Bible the Pilgrims brought to America, before John Darby showed up on our shores about the time of the Civil War. What was the earlier understanding of Daniel 9:27 found below in the notes of the 1599 Geneva Bible? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dan 9:27 And he shal confirme the couenant with many for one weeke: and in the middes of the weeke he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the ouerspreading of the abominations, he shall make it desolate, euen vntill the consummation determined shalbe powred vpon the desolate. Daniel 9:27 And he (a) shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to (b) cease, (c) and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make [it] desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. (a) By the preaching of the Gospel he affirmed his promise, first to the Jews, and after to the Gentiles. (See Rom. 1:16, Matt. 10:5-7, Acts 10:36-38) (b) Christ accomplished this by his death and resurrection. (See Heb. 9:15) (c) Meaning that Jerusalem and the sanctuary would be utterly destroyed because of their rebellion against God, and their idolatry: or as some read, that the plague will be so great, that they will all be astonished at them. (See Matt. 23:38, Matt. 24:1-2, Luke 19:41-44) ------------------------------------------------ During recent years many New Covenant scholars have examined Daniel chapter 9 from a New Covenant perspective. Did Christ fulfill the summary found in Daniel 9:24? Is it about the New Covenant fulfilled by the blood of Christ at Calvary? Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Heb 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; Heb 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. (These two verses are quoted from Jeremiah 31:31-34.) Heb 10:18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Act 10:36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) Act 10:37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; Act 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. The death of the Messiah is found in Daniel 9:26, and there are only two possible singular antecedents for the word “he” in the next verse. Those antecedents are either Christ or Titus, who was the prince of the people that destroyed the temple during 70 AD. Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. Is the “he” in Daniel 9:27 the “Messiah”, or “the prince” of the people that destroyed the city and the sanctuary in verse 26? If we used “the people of the prince” it would not be a singular “he”. Does the author of the Book of Hebrews connect the New Covenant with the Messiah’s death found in Daniel 9:26, in the verse below? Heb 9:15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. (NKJV) Verse 26 also says the Messiah would be cut off “after” the 69 weeks. If I agree to paint your house “after” 69 weeks, it will not be painted until the 70th week, or after. Is there a “gap” of almost 2,000 years between the 69th week and the 70th week, or was it fulfilled during the first century when the Gospel was preached “first” to the Jews? We know there is a time period when the Gospel was taken “first” to the Jews, as the Apostle Paul said in the verse below. Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. Can we find a time period of about seven years when the Gospel was taken “first” to Daniel’s people during the first century? If we can, we have good evidence that the 70th week of Daniel has already been fulfilled. Did Christ command His disciples to take the Gospel only to Israel in the passage below? Mat 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: "Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. Mat 10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Mat 10:7 And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' Is the time period when the Gospel was preached “first” (Rom. 1:16) to the Jews in the passage above, confirmed in the passage below? Act 10:36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) Act 10:37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; Act 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. In the passage above Luke confirms the fact that the Gospel of Christ was preached throughout the land of Israel after the baptism which John preached. Here again, we have a text which reveals a time period when the Gospel was taken “first” to the Jews, as Paul said in Romans 1:16. Bible scholars have looked at the number of Passover celebrations in the Gospels and have estimated Christ’s earthly ministry to have lasted about three and one half years. Was the Gospel taken “first” (Rom. 1:16) to the Jews for a period of about three and one half years during the period of time revealed in the Gospels? In Galatians 1:14-18 Paul reveals he did not go up to see Peter until about 3 years after his conversion. During that time the Gospel continued to be taken almost exclusively to Daniel's people, before Paul took the Gospel to the Gentiles. Read the recent book "The 70th Week of Daniel 9 DECODED" by David Wilcoxson for confirmation of the above. Watch the KZread video on Daniel 9 by Dr. Kelly Varner.

According to the discussions it appears the answer to the question as depicted in the title “Are We Living in the Last Days?” is "no" because the end of the age was marked by the end of the Roman Empire and so the end of the age has already happened. The problem with that interpretation is no mention is made of the Roman Empire at all. A more correct view is that Jesus is referring to the end of the new age that begins with the New Covenant and that age has not yet ended. The question raised by the disciples is “about the signs of His return and the end of the age.”. Note the disciples asked for the signs of His return first then the end of the age. So, the end of the age Jesus was referring to must be after His return not before. The rest of what Jesus told to the disciples then makes sense. Actually there is a definitive reason why the end of the age Jesus is referring to is not the end of the Roman Empire but at some future time; it is given in Matthew 13. Jesus gives two parables to explain what is the “end of the age”. In first one, the parable of the tares, Jesus explains how the reapers are the angels and the tares (non-believers) are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. This is the time of the judgement at the end of the age. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous (saved ones) will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. In the second parable, the parable of the dragnet, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Jesus then said to the disciples, “Have you understood all these things?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord. Apparently, some today do not.

Interesting that every generation has thought the end times were near. Certainly, from our vantage point today with all of the crazy and evil political stuff going on, the immorality, the fires, earthquakes, pandemic, etc., it seems like it’s coming soon and maybe it is. But when you read history, you learn that there were times very much like this for the last 1900 years. There was climate catastrophe, wars, pandemics of epic proportions, widespread immorality and violence. Even just in the 20th century, world war 2 would have seemed like the last days for many-especially those who ended up in death camps or who lost everything-and for many it was their last days. So, the Lord gave us the warning signs but He also said no one knows when the time will be-I think because if we act as if we know, He knows we will become complacent. I think He wants us to live as if every day is our last day and live for Him with our future home in mind always, whether things are going well on earth or not.

I thought it was clear from the discussion, that the “end of the age” in view in the Olivet Discourse was the end of the old covenant age, based on the law of Moses and the temple sacrificial system. Gary repeated this a few times, and referred to the book of Hebrews as explaining the old covenant that was “becoming obsolete and growing old, ready to vanish away” (Heb 8:13). The mention of the Roman Empire was in relation to the use of the word “oikemene”-the inhabited world-that is frequently misunderstood as “kosmos”-the earth or world. So the “end” or the “last days” in the Olivet Discourse and in Peter’s Pentecost sermon refers specifically to the end of the old covenant age that passed away and made way for the inauguration of the New Covenant. The apostles were living in the last days of the old covenant, we are not.

@@djnv4702 You speak the truth. The problem is some Christians are being led astray by false interpretations of the Bible and by doing so making them vulnerable to false christs and fake prophets. For example, the New Age movement is a religion that appeals to the weak-minded who believe they can have prosperity in the afterlife through their own works without the need of Christ. Equally as bad are those who teach that the second coming has already happened, such as by the JWs. The parable of the ten virgins is undoubtedly one of the most poignant. If people can’t figure out what the parable truly means then people run the risk of missing the “bridegroom”. Christians need to take the time now to fill their lamp with oil and take extra along while waiting and watching with joy and anticipation of the return of our Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus, be it in our life time, or the next when the dead are resurrected. With revelation 12 having already happened I dont need further confirmation but I watch everything else fall into place. Which one are you waiting for that would convince you? There have been many things written of this time, too many to list, that tell you just where we are at in this age. And no they did not all happen at the same time in the past to give credence to those who thought it was in their time.

So, does this mean that there isn't going to be the Second Coming of Jesus? That the world is not going to end or be a final judgement?

Better check Luke 20:35-36: "THOSE COUNTED WORTHY to share in the age (aion--more inconsistency in translating this same word--why not "eternity" here?) to come...CAN NO LONGER DIE because they are like angels." Sinners in hell are not worthy, nor are they like angels. Therefore than can still die eternally, and will after they've paid "all that is due" (Matt 18:35). Please issue a retraction video to admit your error. God bless.

The rapture, the day of the Lord, and the day of judgment, are all one and the same day! 1 Thess 4:15-17 “For this say we unto you by the word of the Lord, that WE' (emphatic) which live, and are remaining in the coming of the Lord, shall not prevent them which sleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, and with the voice of the Archangel, and with the trumpet of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then shall WE' (emphatic) (those living breathing people) which live and remain, be caught up with them also in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” So here we have the coming of the Lord Himself. We have the shout of the Angel and the blast of that trumpet. The resurrection of the saved dead, and the gathering of the living into the Kingdom of God, the “air.” That's the context. Many, regretfully, call this the “rapture” incorrectly. So how does Paul describe this further? Just two sentences later within the same context: 1Thess 5:1-3 “But of the times and seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2 For ye yourselves know perfectly, that the day of the Lord shall come, even [as a thief in the night.]” Where have I heard that phrase before? 3 “For when they shall say, Peace and safety, then shall come upon them sudden DESTRUCTION, as the travail upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape.” Ah Ha! He has included that this same day previously mentioned in two sentences back, is a day of destruction as well! So what about that “thief in the night phrase?” 2Pet 3:10 “But the day of the Lord will come as a [thief in the night], in the which the heavens shall pass away with a noise, and the elements shall melt with heat, and the earth with the works that are therein shall be burnt up.” Remember Peter mentioning some of Paul's writings? Bet that's where Peter got that. Cause they are writing about the same event! So! The “judgment day,” as some refer to this, is the one and the same day as the one Paul was addressing in his first Thessalonian letter! Its all one event!! It is not two separate events! The “rapture” and the “judgment day” are all one single event. And according to Jesus and Paul, it all occurred in the first century at the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple. How could Jesus and Paul have said it more clearly than they did?

His footsteps are ordered by the Lord. He finds favor in good things. Upright, Holy and Pure are his names. He works for the poor. He helps the needy. He fights for those who have no voice. He wears the armor of God. God speaks with him and tells him of His ways. He listens to God and obeys. His ears are open, as are his eyes. He knows where evil lives -- he's visited it. He knows how evil works -- he's worked with it. Now, this day the Lord will deliver the righteous man from his bondage. He will walk in the light of the Lord and will be rewarded with the Lord's greatest reward: wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. These things no man can take. These things only the Lord can give. All those who walk in righteousness can't get these rewards. The cost is great. Only a man can lay down his life to receive the rewards of the Eternal. Only a man can pick up the Eternal and live. What God provides no man can take away. Only those that live in the spirit are truly alive. The righteous man walks in the light. He feels the pain of the innocent. He glorifies God in all he does. He is the true son of the Father. He who follows Him follows the Truth. He lights the path of darkness. The evildoers tremble in his light. They curse and they mock him. Do not pity him. He is One with the Father. The Father's blessings are bestowed on him. His heart is filled with the Lord. He breeds the Holy Spirit. His word is like lightning and captures the heart. He guides the sheep. He is my anointed-one that does the work of the Father. Blessed is he who follows in the footsteps of the Father. His fire is strong and shall always burn bright. No man shall harm him for he is chosen from God. My angels protect him in all he does. He is the true Prophet sent from God to do My work. To him much is owed and much will be given. He suffers in My name. His message is My word and it shall be heard. Remember My beloved son, I am with you always until the end of time. Your faith and love for Me shall lead you through this trial. Remember trial breeds strength and this strength shall serve you well. Evil needs to know that it cannot walk in the path of light. Sometimes when you reach for the rose, you may grab the crown of thorns. Amen.

It was discussed but they already made up their minds and believe the end of the age is in the past, which is a contradiction to what Jesus explained it is in Matthew 13 using two parables. Further details are in my other responses. The Word of God can never be wrong.

@@xenofonz7640 but you can be! "they already made up their minds" yes, that is what aged people who have done lots of study generally do. Just like you have done. ""'In the last days, ..." Acts 2:17 Peter speaking of his current time in the 1st century, "This is what the prophet Joel was speaking about" ie. It was fulfilled in the 1st Century (last days). 2 Tim 3:1 "But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days." Paul speaking of current events in the 1st century. "but in these last days he (Jesus) has spoken..." Heb 1:2 Obviously 1st Century AD 65 The writer of Hebrews wrote - "In just a very very little while, ' He who is coming will come and will NOT DELAY....'" [Heb 10:37]; "as you see the DAY approaching" [Heb 10:25] "... You have hoarded wealth in the last days." James 5:3 Obviously speaking about current events in the 1st century. Interesting because Jerusalem was about to be sacked and all wealth taken, something Jesus often warned about. AD 60 James wrote - "be patient and stand firm, because the LORD'S COMING is NEAR (at hand)...The judge is standing at the door!" [James 5:8-9] AD 58 Paul wrote -"Understand the present time: ...because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here" [Rom 13:11-12] Peter wrote "The end of all things is AT HAND." [1 Peter 4:7] Peter wrote "For it is time for judgment to begin with the house of God..." [1 Pet. 4:17] John wrote "Little children, this IS the last hour... it IS the last hour" [1 John 2:18] 2 Pet 3:3 "First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come" Explaining current events in the 1st century, the time he was living in. AD 57 Paul wrote -"Time is short" [1 Cor. 7:29]....."The world in its present form is passing away" [1 Cor. 7:31] AD 49 Paul wrote "The fullness of time was come" [Gal 4:4] We are certainly living in challenging times and many of the same warnings apply but these are not the last days that the bible speaks about. The last days / end times refers to the end of the old covenant and the start of the new. God has already disciplined Israel and he has no need to do it again.
