I picture the artist that carved this watching over you as you saved his/her work, and I imagine their joy. Epic rescue!

That carved stone work, was so worth all the effort it took to get it home. Well done Gail and Alex. What a beautiful thing to have saved. Well done ladies. 💪 xxx

It looks like it fronted a building. The roughness on the back is to help it hold when cemented into place. Many areas of the seacoast and many many dumps were filled with the truckloads of debris from the Blitz. which is why there are so many items that date to 1939 and before. The brick work was so extensive that it was even sent out as ballast in some ships of the day. (some reportedly ended up in New York).

I don't know if you have seen videos of the coast near Liverpool, where they dumped the rubble from the extensive bomb damage, some extraordinary architectural features.

I never doubted that the two of you would prevail. Congrats on the largest and heaviest mudlarking find. I am already looking forward to see what you found that day.. Happy Mother's Day Gail and all others who read this.

I get excited over stones all the time. I have to be very firm with myself about not bringing them home and once a year I gather up some older ones and take them back to the place I collect from so that others may enjoy them. I would not try to haul anything that heavy. It is a massive treasure. You are both true triers.

The perseverance and hard work you both used to rescue this lovely piece of history was truly an extreme mudlark and definitly worth at least a cup of tea. You could even do a casting from it and maybe make more of them? I think if you find bigger ones that you can't remove, then maybe do a pencil rubbing and turn it into a painting. I am also thinking you either have a ghost, person or your latch to your front door isn't catching as from 26:05 of your video your front door periodically opens and closes.lol. Can't wait to see what else you find.

It’s awesome that you got that wonderful stone home. It threw me back to my 20swhen I lived in Fairbanks Alaska and I was forever hauling large rocks home for my garden retaining walls. You deserve more than a cup of tea! Perhaps nice dram of fine whiskey. Kudos to the manufacturer of the trolley!

My dad always used to say to me there is no such thing as you cant!. I have never forgotten that. He is not here anymore but i always remember what he said when i do something that seems impossible. I have achieved so much in my life which i am proud of with this mindset!. You have done the same retrieving the sandstone now you can make it something stunning for your home and be proud that you got it there with your determination
