Are the SPFL and SFA fit for purpose?

Спорт

Kieran is joined by Stephen McGowan, Chief Football Writer at the Scottish Daily Mail. They discuss:
- What do the SPFL and SFA do, and how to they operate?
- Do the bigger clubs have too much power?
- What is stopping us getting a better TV deal?

League reconstruction, voting structure, a new TV deal and Reserve league and.colt teamw are the main ways to fix Scottish football. Fan voting rights at the sfa or spfl with season ticket holders part of a 25% voting share along with the clubs comprising 75% would allow fans real power. The fans have most of the best solutions but we are being given middle managers who are more concerned with keeping their jobs safe and who dont want to innovate Scottish football

Spot on mate. All that can be done to make things better. Dual ownership rules is one that the SFA can relax. Not remove completely but rewrite them so our clubs can get some much needed investment from outside of Scotland. The loan system can be loads better also. As for Doncaster, he is happy to just take a salary. Us fans need to pressure the clubs to think of the game overall more to push through changes at league level.

We need a yearly fan representation to decide the structure in Scottish football, we cant leave it in the hands of salaried middle class administrators. The fans of Scottish football need to take the power back. Let the fans decide the structure of Scottish football and get administrators to enact the ideas and solutions of the fans. The 90% voting system is a totalitarean nightmare its like a Chinese system

Yes - really like this idea. Football without fans is nothing. We need more representation and transparency.

@@ImprovingScottishFootball I don't just mean fan representation but fans being actually on tbe board with voting rights.I am talking about season ticket holders from Scottish clubs having 51 percent of some percentage of voting rights along with the clubs themselves similar to cooperative businesses where employees have shares and boardroom representation.Scottish football is not being taken forward by salaries admin people who will always look at the their job descriptions before looking at innovating Scottish football. The power need to go back to fans and and 20 or so bigger clubs.

18 team format 34 games no split, English style playoffs, Scottish Cup League Cup and National Team games, televised on BBC, new tv deal for £650m-£800m shared revenue, domestic: 50% viewership 25% merit points 25% facility fees, international: 100% revenue shared, £5m-£10m start of the season, better sponsorship partners, better marketing and investment, fix the 2-3 club rule(so that owners with 2 or more clubs can own a stake in a club)

This guy in the blue jumper is hopeless and essentially he backs the status quo and the easy road. If we had a 100M tv deal and sold 200 SPFL games then that would make a challenger to the big 2 Glasgow clubs more likely or closer. this guy totally sums up everything that is wrong with Scottish football and our dour safe administrators

He seems to be pally with the blazers or at least blinded by something. The SFA will not allow dual ownership, so our clubs are missing out on investment. Hibs right now are having to beg them to make an eception to the SFA rule so they can get money flowing in from a prospective buyer who only wants like 25% and to pump money in. The changes made in 1975 are still felt today, so we must look to undo them somehow.

SFA in charge of dual ownership rules. They need NO votes from clubs to remove and have sat and watched our clubs suffer financially for 30 years now. Hibs right now are having to beg them to allow big investment from a guy who has invested in other clubs. This journo guest is clearly on the side of the salaried blazers. Doncaster is a man who has spent 10 years collecting a big salary and achieving nothing. It is well known he is a puppet for the clubs. What type of person spends 10 years in a job they have zero influence in? Inly 1 type, a person thinking purely of their bank account. This man can defend the SFA and SPFL alll he likes but the proof is there that they are broken. As for the clubs, the SFA should be kicking their asses and demanding changes are pushed through or sanctions will be issued. As he said, the SFA are responsible for the welfare of the overall game.

The SFA have already agreed to give serious consideration to relaxing dual ownership article 13. That’s why the Bournemouth -Hibs talks are happening in the first place.

It's too easy to talk about past Scottish football success but football has changed so much financially. We simply need to try outdo our peers rather than compare ourselves to England
