ARE SLICK SKATEBOARDS GOOD?

They aren't the same as they used to be but are they any better?

Consistentcy is exactly why I always use rails. I used to have slicks back in the 90's when they first came out and also use the stick on slick for the nose and tail of boards I had rails on. Also with rails you get a solid square 2 point contact on a square edge or on coping with a bare board or slick you have the curve of the concave to deal with, not a huge deal but it's a total confidence booster for me and I get super consistent board slides.

respect bro. I'm impressed that you can offer an educated opinion and demonstrate your assessment of the equipment you're testing. You have the skill to execute the trick, and the knowledge of the equipment (and weather) and then give your overall assessment. That fucking kicks ass! Keep it up man. I just subscribed.

I loved slicks when they first came out but then the slick trend sorta died around 93ish. I had the Randy Colvin ‘Colvinetics’ and the Jason Lee ‘Burger King’. I haven’t skated a slick since those days but would love to try a modern slick one day.

The early morning jogger disappearing behind your head at about 9.50 minutes in was a top moment! Great review. Of course I should be out skating instead of watching videos in bed at 8.00am but not having a park within a half hour cycle is making me lazy. I might have to go to the streets and I suck at street.

Your right about the wheels sticking...the coefficient of friction differential between the slick bottom and the wheels can be challenging to navigate. BUT the worst part of a slick is going back to a board that isn’t slick! I love slicks!!! BTW, wiping cold wet coping with your jacket is a sign of either dedication or savagery... cringeworthy move right there.

I have had a few of the new slicks from Real and Krooked. each had a different pattern of the material, so i haven't tried this Velcro one. The best thing is that they last a lot longer and don't snap or chip. I never get pressure cracks like a normal board will around the trucks. I'm really interested in trying a symmetrical ishod deck if i can find one

last slick I had was the first board I ever had, almost 25 years ago, lol. Now I really want one again. I really only do flips on flat and grinds/slides on ledges these days, so boards last me forever. Only once I get through the graphic layer, I have to wax my board constantly so I don't stick.

Sounds a bit like the texture of slick board I had in 95. It also peeled up a little bit. But sas so good and consistant and predictable for board slides on transitions and curbs. Got back into skating with a wooden deck and is horrible for slides compared to my old slick. Have to get another slick!!!.

Hi Ben, i’m a 37 year old subscriber to your channel and former skateboarder back in the 90’. I haven’t touched a board in over 17 years, but never lost interest in the sport. I kept watching skatevideo’s, especially when youtube was introduced. In the meantime life past by, work eat sleep repeat.... i recently discoverd your channel, and my old skatebuddy picked up skating again. So now i’m considering buying a board. However, i have really bad health, and i think it will hold me back. Since then i have Diabetes, one bad knee, and one bad ankle. All of my muniscus removed. Broke my tibula en fibula just above the ankle in a bycicle accident. So i’m a bit affraid i’m facing an impossible quest. ANYWAY, WHAT I REALLY WANTED TO ASK, AND WONDERING, YOU SKATE REALLY WELL, HAVE YOU EVER TAKEN A LONG BREAK FROM SKATING, AND HOW LONG ARE YOU SKATING FOR NOW SINCE. I would much appreciate a reply. Congrats on the channel, really love it. Greets from belgium. Keep those video’s coming👍🏻👍🏻

Jb001 jb001 I'm in my 30s and have had my share of injuries and I still skate. A lot of it is mind over body. Just focus on a good time not any fears and you'll impress yourself. I've taken breaks and been able to pick it up again later. If it's been on your mind all this time you are good man. Think about taking glucosamine, tumeric, and vitamin D3.

The missing meniscus is the only thing that jumps out at me. I had a torn meniscus and had it scoped out. I think at least half of it is still there. Pain will be your guide to whether or not you can skate. I never had a break longer than 6 months but I have had two of those. I really got back on board 2 years ago and have been going strong since. There are times when people can no longer skate but only you can be the judge of that. I would just say, eat well, exercise, sleep well and give it a conservative effort. Listen to your body.
