A man and his wife from Pakistan. tried multiple times to have a child of their own, but they couldn’t; she was infertile. After 7 years of trying, they considered adoption. They eventually adopted a little Austrian girl of the age of 5 whose mother had just recently died. They cared for her and taught her Pashto, and in return, she taught them German. I am that little Austrian girl, and I love my parents; even though my aba has recently went away. I still love them and could’ve never Ben gifted a better family

I find it sad there are so many stipulations on adopting a child. It seems just so complicated when in my mind it isn’t a complicated matter. You can’t have kids but you want them, there are children out there who needs parents, so you take a child who needs parents and they become your own child. To me, it’s as simple as that.

the only difference between the western and Islamic things for adoption is that you can't give your adopted child your last name cause the child's rights must be considered. unfortunately, we live in a world where everyone gives birth but never takes care of their babies. you alone, obviously can't take care of all the babies being born. the foster home or orphanage cant be trusted either, so start your own orphanage or foster home..... I think. and yes, in Islam you cant adopt a child who you cant treat as your own child.

Even more concerning when u find out why adoption is not allowed even now for willing families with a void and most importantly a child in need of care safety and love. I find it a bit disingenous of mubina not to tell the truth fully about mohammad being ok with adoptions at one point that he felt compelled to adopt a son. Well son marries and because mohammad wanted his adopted sons wife but was told he couldnt as that is his sons wife. So what did Moe do? He abolished adoption that day out..oh and he also go zaynab after all by making them divorce so she could be with him smh. How anyone could claim abolishing adoption for children in need is the right thing to do after learning why it wasnt allowed anymore while still claiming Mohammad pbuh-is either so disturbing its funny or so funny its disturbing. Havent figured out which though. Theyll still die on that hill for mohammad

My best friend adopted two at-risk children. The girl was 11, when they fostered her and 13 when they could officially adopt her. They paid a large sum of money to legally adopt her. They had to pay private detectives to find her natural parents. They also fostered and adopted a 15 year old boy. They put them in good schools and tutored them in their spare time. They have a good life and are cherished by a very large extended family.

@XOX I respectfully disagree! An orphanage is no place for a child to be raised. My daughter came to be in a complex situation with absolutely no biological family that was safe or able to raise her. My daughter now has a loving home with a mom that will raise her. My daughter will always know her story and will know she is adopted. I agree with not taking away the child’s story or denying their biology but she in my belief is a child of God and I was chosen to raise her. Adoption can be messy, foster care is messy and heck life is messy. Oh and children are messy but I know she is better off being raised in a home with a mom rather that becoming institutionalized in an orphanage.

This is actually one of the things about Islam that I actually have a huge problem with. The fact that blood is held above love is so mind boggling to me, I just can't wrap my head around it. I am someone who was adopted (by my mom, my dad is my biological father) and will only ever have adopted children. I remember when my last name was changed from my biological mothers to my dad's right before I went into kindergarten. I had only ever went by his last name so it was a smooth transition, but I know it would have left deep emotional scars if my parents had a different last name then me. Welcoming someone into your family doesn't always mean a name change, but it does help make you feel like you belong. Any child I adopt will have my last name, or at least hyphen. And I can't imagine never being able to see my mom's hair or face (even though I'm a female). Just the thought of my mom having to be less than the amazing mother she is makes me almost physically ill. Blood has never counted for anything, but love means everything.

I couldn't agree more. I am so glad I am from a religion that is so free of these kind of rules (Hinduism) and more than anything I am glad I've got the kind of education and exposure to realise love will always be greater than blood. Sometimes a stranger is there by your side helping you when your own family is unable to be there. I am an Indian hindu married to an American Christian. My family was totally fine with me uprooting my whole life to be with him and get married to him as long as I am happy. Our child is going to grow up celebrating both religions festivals but mainly as a person with good values and morale.

You have to realize that traditionally Arabs did not use last names. I am married and didn't take my husband's last name and my children have their father's name. I don't feel any less of a connection with my family because our last names don't match. Same thing with my first marriage never took his last name. I am happy Islam gives me this freedom instead of being called by my husband's name such as Hindu's do. Example your Hindu husband's name is Vijays Sharma you will be called Mrs Vijay Sharma. I understand some sects give the wife a brand new name to fit with her new family. I don't agree with this. I think it's quite backwards to have to change your identity to fit in. I have blood relatives that I wish weren't related to me. So blood isn't everything and love is very Important. Yet there are rules in Islam and if you respect the faith you will respect the rules. Being a non-muslim it makes sense why you feel the way that you do and that's ok. I can respect it and at the same token respect my religious rules as well.

I dont think the last name matters (except for legal document purposes) because the child could still be treated with love regardless. If they don't love the child after adoption that's another story. I mean, you can treat closest friends like a real family even if you all don't share the same surname.

In regards to adopted children, from an Islamic perspective, it is important that the child know s/he is adopted and know who her/his parents are if it is known. You know that DNA cannot change by love, don't you? I am not against your believe, but I just want to explain this Islamic perspective related to adopted child. It is not forbidden in Islam to love your adopted child as same as you love your biological child It is just Islam want to preserve lineage so that adopted child know who their mahrams are ( people that they cannot marry to) such as biological parents, step parents (if their biological parents remarry), biological sisters or brothers, half-step sisters or brothers, aunts or uncles, nieces and nephews. Just imagine if the adopted child doesn't know who their biological family is, it is possible that in the future he/she marry one of them (incest). And one more thing, actually islam doesn't regulate family name. Family name is just cultural thing. I live in Southeast Asia and I dont even have family name. Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him didn't have family name. In islam, we just call somebody by their given name followed by their biological father's name like Muhammad (peace be upon him) son of Abdullah. Their biological father's name cannot be replaced by their adopted father's name to preserve the lineage

I think the reason for this is to prevent incest ? Back in those times communities use to be way smaller ... so if the child had a sibling but grew up with a different name. If they grew up , having different the orginal last name would make it easier to distiguish that so they wont get married. Offcoure things are soo diffrent these days with technology and you can find out if you are related to someone therfore many scholars have allowed giving the same last name based on the situations today, but it would still be required to be honest with the child and informing them about their family roots at an appropriate age. Lying isnt healthy, so its discouraged.

Like literally I'm living in one of strictest Islamic countries in the world and breastfeeding and stuff is not needed for adoption at all and you can adopt children at any age you want and give them your surname. There are still limitations but not strict as it seems to be.the limitations are more about financial matters and parents having stable income and not having criminal records. So if someone doesn't care about breastfeeding and stuff, they are completely allowed to adopt children and those who like to adopt a child but don't because of breastfeeding etc, that's their choice

You can also give the modern day surnames we have. What is not allowed is to give the fathers name to the kid, the surnames we use are different so its okay to give. Basically the kid should be well aware. The kid also cant inherit like the child but you can bequest wtvr sum of money u want to the kid. The only issue is mehram, not mehram and that can be worked if youre ready to go the extra mile. And work a little. Also in extreme circumstances where the kid literally needs someone ot wtvr then mehram/not mehram can momentarily be left behind, cuz preserving the life is above preserving the lineage. Yeps. Ita basically almost the same as any other coupls adopting. And most ppl prefer ababies anyway cuz its easier to integrate into the family, so you could also sponsor the kid and foster them and guide them and help thwm out, advise give them an educatio and get a job, amd love them just not physical love if theyre opposite genders. Also post mwnopause women can chill with the hijab and all, so there are many ways. Taking care of orphans is ordered so many times in the Quran, its one of the highest deeds. It is not frowned upon.

Allah has not created two hearts in the chest cavity of a person, has not made your wives, whom you call haram, like your mothers, your mothers, and has not made your adopted children your real sons. This is your own claim; Allah tells the truth and He shows the right way. ﴾5﴿ Mention your adopted children by their fathers' last names. This is a more appropriate course of justice in the sight of Allah. If you do not know their fathers, then they are your brothers in religion and your friends. An adopted child is not the same as biological child, we can't deny the child's biological parents just because we want to adopt him/her. That's Allah's decree and as Muslims we obey His will. @@emzz2263 phycological damage? Because of your name is different than your adopted father? I don't see any sound reason in your comment which justify the phycological damage as you said. Just because the adopted child have to keep his name as it is doesn't means the adopted child would be treated less than the rest of the family. Like I said, the reason for the prohibition of adopted child from taking adopted parents name is to preserve genealogy and avoid conflicts in the future especially in matters that close related to mahram issue like marriage, inheritance, and so on. Adopted children isn't same as biological children no matter what you feel, you can't change the child's genealogy just because you want him to feel as part of the family. It's not on the name to be family, it's how you treat with kindness, love and protect the adopted child as you done to your biological child. Islam encourage muslims to ask questions, reasoning and pondering. We don't do blind faith, the Quran command us to seek knowledge and investigate information that come to us, however, our knowledge is limited to what Allah told us, we don't know everything about Allah's reasoning for each law Hey decreed upon us. With that being said, as Muslims, we are obligated to submit to Allah's laws even though we don't like it or not according to our desires, because we believe Allah knew us better and He decrees for our own benefits, even we don't know. He is the All-Knowing, so we as limited beings in every way, shape and form, are obligated to obey the All-Knowing. Legal adoption, not adoption in the love sense, is banned in Islam. Basically, that means a Muslim parent can fall in love with a child and become its caretaker giving it love, care, etc. But, he or she cannot give the child their name. This was done for 2 main reasons. 1. To protect the inheritance rights of the family (although the child can take up to 1/3 of the inheritance if specified by the parent) 2. It protects the child's right to marriage. For example, if the family has a daughter and the parents take in a boy to take care of then the daughter and the boy can still get married if they fall in love. This would become impossible if the boy comes the legal son of the family. BTW this is for the cases that don't involve all the breastfeeding/Mahram stuff meaning parents taking care of a child no matter their age (Although if the child was a boy and then becomes an adult then the women need to start wearing the hijab around him). Islam does not discourage taking care of orphans and giving them a loving home. In fact, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “I will be like this in Jannah with the person who takes care of an orphan.” The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, raised his forefinger and middle finger by way of illustration. Since women do not have to cover themselves in front of children this would not be an problem. She (and he) would hug, cuddle, love the children like her own children. The problematic time would start with the puberty. When the child is not a milk-son than the "adoptive mother" would have to cover herself in front of him. When the child is not a milk-daughter than the daughter would have to cover herself in front of the "adoptive father". Now, the thing is what you understand in covering yourself. The majority of muslim scholars says that women do not have to cover their face. So, I would personally have no problem when I (adoptive son) do not see the hair of my adoptive mother or I (adoptive daughter) cover my hair Infront of my adoptive father. But when you include the covering of your face, then this would be like a torture. As a son, not to see the face of your adoptive mother, or as a father, not to see the face of your adoptive daughter, for the rest of your life. And how ninja mommy says, women who decide to cover their face do not adopt cjildren when they cannot make them milk-sons or milk-daughters

Some culture especially in the south east Asia don't have a family name. In my knowledge, if you as a muslim give your family name to your adopted child, is an act of declaring the adopted child as your biological child, which is prohibited in Islam. The adopted child must retain his/her original name, or if child don't have a name yet, you can give name that not showing the child as your biological child. I don't know about your culture, but in the south east Asia culture where we don't use family, we usually put the name Abdullah at the back of the child's name if we don't know the child's birth family. You can ask any Muslim scholar or imam at the mosque for more clarification. Hope this answer your question.

Her mother had given her daughter to her sister because her sister was infertile. Another relative's brother gave his daughter to his sister because she was infertile. There's also a case where a boy was adopted (outside of the family). He was treated like their own son. Some people talked about women being able to produce milk even without having a newborn of their own. I don't exactly know if it is true or not but that doesn't make a child your/your husband's mahram if the milk is not because of giving birth to an actual child. I searched it before and only the breast milk caused by pregnancy makes a non mahram new born into a mahram. Not other physiological conditions etc that may cause a woman produce milk without being pregnant or already breastfeeding at that time. Many of couples who adopt children have fertility problems ( one or both) so they can't breastfeed the newcomer child and if they could afford medical procedures to be able to be pregnant to have "acceptable " type of milk to breastfeed the newcomer baby, they wouldn't have started the adoption process at the first place as they already had offspring! And many couples may not want to adopt children under 2 so this breastfeeding rule limits their chances. And even if any type of breast milk is acceptable in your opinion ( which is not) , I have read books about Islamic religious laws and it's not like a milk drop makes a child your/your husband's mahram. The amount of milk and the frequency of breastfeeding is also important which includes considerable amounts of milk. And please don't mistake any white discharge coming out of nipples as milk. And i see many people talking about Zayd, calling him the adopted child of prophet Muhammad. Guys Zayd was a slave before getting free and many sources suggest that he was only 10 years younger than the prophet. He was not the Adopted Child you think he was

Guys as many of you asked questions about the adopted child being mahram with the woman or her husband by breastfeeding, I searched in Islamic sites ( they're not in English, I will paste the link if you ask though) and these are some of the requirements needed to turn a child into a mahram of his/her adoptive parents: Before starting I want to confirm that thses following requirements are not practiced by all muslims as you know 1.9 billion of the world population are muslims and just like other religions people and scholars can be very different. Just like Christians who may be catholic , orthodox, protestant etc. So 8 things needed to turn the adoptive child into your/your husband's mahram: *Lactation must be a result of pregnancy and child birth, so if the woman Lactates milk (or sth similar to milk) which is not caused by pregnancy and child birth, that's not useful *the breastmilk must be a cause of the woman getting pregnant by her husband so if the woman gets pregnant by anyone other than her husband (like her boyfriend or a guy they hooked up before or a rapist etc), that won't cause Mahramiat ( Mahramiat means being mahrams) *the child should drink the milk directly from the nipples *the milk must be pure and not mixed with any other thing like I don't know ,whatever *the child shouldn't vomit the milk ( because of sickness or any other reason), if he/she does so, that doesn't make Mahramiat * the amount of milk and the milk meals and the frequency is very important but I prefer not writing it here as it would gets longer *the child must be younger that 2 years when they start breastfeeding so if they are older that that, breastfeeding doesn't make Mahramiat * the woman must be alive while breastfeeding ( understandable) Sorry for my English, I'm not a native speaker

Totally allowed! Wearing hijab only applies when the child becomes a grown adult. When you foster, the child would not be an adult so it is okay :)

this was very interesting bc im catholic and we believe adopted children are to be loved and treated just as much as your biological children, for they are considered your own. blood of the covenant is thicker than water of the womb.

Just out of curiosity, in a different video you said that you're not allowed to use a sperm donor to get pregnant, because when you're having a girl she'll have to cover her face in front of her "father" why is this different with adoption, and why is a child you breastfed excluded from this rule, but not a child you gave birth to? Sorry if the question is unclear, English is not my first language and I don't know if I'm expressing myself clear enough 😅

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala said: "Prohibited to you [for marriage] are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your father's sisters, your mother's sisters, your brother's daughters, your sister's daughters, your [milk] mothers who nursed you, your sisters through nursing, your wives' mothers, and your step-daughters under your guardianship [born] of your wives unto whom you have gone in. But if you have not gone in unto them, there is no sin upon you. And [also prohibited are] the wives of your sons who are from your [own] loins, and that you take [in marriage] two sisters simultaneously, except for what has already occurred. Indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful." (QS. An-Nisaa 4: Verse 23)

If it’s ok to ask, would the adoption process work differently or the same way if you were to adopt a child from another family member (if God forbid something happened to one of your siblings and there was a child left behind)?

If its between your relatives, majority of the times covering up from the opposite gender wont be required when the child grows up: For example if a uncle adopts a neice, or a aunt adopts a nephew: They dont need to breastfeed or anything like that, since being modest around these family members is not required: The child has to be fully aware of their relatationship to the new family, at an appropriate age: We just are not allowed to lie and say "I am your biological mother" when it's not true ... because it is unfair to the child to not know the truth
