hey, River Valley High student here. I think since we're on this topic and Minister Chan has touched upon the renewal of the place that the incident has taken place, I'd like to add some two cents. The place of the incident has been changed to a venue for students to visit if they were in need of such assistance, but as of now, has not been furnished and instead we do have an additional venue called "The Fountain" which may be a temporary location for students to talk to the school counsellor. I would also like to say that the school environment has improved a lot, and the school leaders have been trying to make school a more enjoyable, supportive and lively place for the student body, with the aforementioned "fountain" and a repurposed study lounge that now has more board games and mini table hockey and fooseball table! I think school hasn't been as lively as it was, but could also be due to the pandemic fatigue, but otherwise, I would think it's safe to say the juniors are still very much enjoying school and the recent school events have been nothing but a blast. here's to me hoping the school spirit has been passed on successfully LOL I'll come back for an update if they managed to furnish the place after As. thank you for reading, kind stranger. oh and another thing to add is we've got a resident cat named manja and everyone loves him. he brings me on tours around the school sometimes. I think his presence has definitely helped us cope better.

I encourage more of such platforms to bring them closer to the ground, to see how human they are to us, layman. Well done. Do bring on more as we too get to learn and understand them better on how they govern the country.

One thing that CCS did RIGHT was to REDUCE the yearly charge by SNTC (special needs trust co) on trusts set up by parents of persons with special needs. Let's put it this way, the more the state takes away from the parents of special needs person, the more the state will need to fork out for state care of such person. Simple

28:08 - I get what CCS is saying, but I disagree that only serious cases should go for therapy. Lots of reasonably healthy people go for therapy to work out some personal issues (eg insecurity, trauma from the past, etc). It's like hiring a personal fitness instructor (if you can afford it) to help you work on yourself. I agree it's fine to go to your friends for support, but they're not trained to help you process your issues and traumas (which everyone has).

How your parents raised you, how your school system shaped you, an unkind teacher, societal expectations - all that leaves marks on your psyche and shapes you. The problem is if you can afford it. To get quality mental care you need to be consulting a trained professional and even in the US they are severely lacking in it. Not every counsellor or therapist are well trained and they are overworked because of this. Especially the more affordable ones or government subsidized ones. There's no one solution but it's clear that if you want quality counselling your best bet is being able to afford it which really is a problem because the lower you are on the economical spectrum, the likely you'll find yourself with a myriad of problems leading to mental health as compared to say someone who is able to afford a, as you tried to paint a picture, gym membership.

I agree with Denise. Mental health should be a public health concern and therefore professional help should be made financially accessible for the population. I understand there are free services out there but the waiting times are generally long and therefore may not be appropriate as psychotherapy requires a certain frequency to be effective.

CCS should explain why private tuition is the norm in pre-tertiary education in Singapore. Why did the government come up with the slogan "Thinking Schools, Learning Nation"? CCS should explain why "thinking" became an issue, of all places, in schools? This is unique to Singapore. Local students are exam-smart but with poor analytical and communication skills. Why?
