On the topic @ 7:50, thats a good point that a lot of people who complain, dont see. In addition to the points brought up, think its worth mentioning about salaries - that the ministers "eArN soOoOo MuCh mOney" is really at the losing end. They take a pay CUT to join the civil sector where they cant even spend all that money as they would face public backlash. 1. Pay Cut 2. Beg for votes or you're out of job 3. Cant even spend money as they would like 4. Gets criticized by public The list goes on, its really a shitty job not for everyone. People always say ministers earn a lot, but when you look and ask around if people want to be ministers, i guarantee majority will say no, because they know.

If all you see are your MPs not raising any questions about policies being put in place, contrary to your beliefs, why can't you be frustrated and expressed it?

When people say not to finish your work fast and submit it at the end of the day, it says a few things about the company. Hard work isn't really appreciated and rewarded. If you work so hard surpassing quotas for the company to tell you "good job" and nothing else, no one is willing to push harder. "good job" doesn't really translate to anything you can take home. If you're taking home the same thing regardless of how hard you work, why work so hard?

Depending on which ministry, being a minister in Singapore can be a thankless job. And not all ministers can go back to private sectors, remember Lui Tuck Yew? At the end of day, I don't think it is money that sustains their political career but what would be their next shot in life to deliver meaning for themselves.

Young lady, Singapore status quo is keep on changing to keep up. We can never afford to not change. Hope you remember that cause you are the future. Many of our change you will not see or feel it immediately. It take decades to see the effect. We are not those countries that if citizens don't see immediate effect, they just march to the streets and curse thier leaders on social media. There is no plateau so far if you look at the charts. GHT did navigate us out of Asian financial crisis. LHL did MBS, brought up tourism and invested in bio science. Almost same time Temasek change leaders and record high profits till today. And trust me LKY did get curse to the high heaven during mine time. You guys are the one benifitting most from his policies.

You are wrong in a couple of things... ... When it comes to Chok Tong... he was the one who let loose of the imps, the root of the now relentless inflation demon, and many foul business happenings... ... He never really navigate Singapore out of Financial Crisis... you look at our stock exchange, what do you see as compared to before Chok Tong took over? LOL~ And look at the economy... ... Busted. Loong... ... as the son of Harry, he should know more and I expected to right a lot of issues, but he didn't... ... he built the MBS, the foreign influx... boosted inflation to high heavens when many Singaporeans sucked dry or suppressed in their careers, job security totally lost, and even banks... previous gates locked were opened and... we had major problems made news. Record high profits? Have you check the relativity to the general economics? Nay, that's beyond you. But sister Ho will remember the record loss as well. Why? Think carefully before you shoot. But all these are not important. To me... I said my piece over the years, and mortals got to choose, and I be entertained. You look at the charts? MOM formula changed for what? And right now, schools are promoting to Singaporean children to accept foreign influx, that will run to India when Singapore was seen to be losing the plague war... ... LOL~ There was only one chap who could have handled the mess back then, but instead, he was totally enraged. Recently, GST is raised... again. But inflation begets inflation, as long as the fundamentals remain messy. Your talk means you are advocating the first 10% GST, then 100% GST, then 1000% GST and beyond? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha... ... I take no side, and am blunt, and I have to give Loong a F grade. By the way, you taking your coming booster jab? Kekekekekeke... ... and that is how you stagnate. the unwillingness or fear of change. To even try and see if the other side will be able to do well or not. Change can make you see two things. Firstly is to see if what you say is actually done (which most of the time doesn't fulfill with PAP standards). Secondly is to reaffirm what you believe in the past is actually true. At the end of the day it's only 4 years. If the opposition is really that bad, PAP can easily win back the power at the following election easily.

PAP or not, change is more of a function of how the region/neighboring countries’ policy actions affect this city-state. If they have the political will to implement deep, structural changes to the detriment of SG, then change is bound to happen. For example, what if the tax advantage is gone? For example, we have all learned recently that having a military force is useless when all it takes to cause disruption in livelihoods is for food and water supplies to be cut from “cheap” sources. There are alternatives but think deeper about the repercussions.

Somethings that needs to change. Education: smaller class sizes rather than school mergers, just by reducing the class size makes learning/teaching improve drastically. Public health: introducing mental health subsidies for example to see a psychologist is way too expensive, and the only thing financially assessable are volunteer helplines or meetings with junior counsellors which just does not help. Environmental issue: judging from the amount of plastic next to the bubble tea stores in sg, I highly doubt the gov is doing enough to regulate waste with businesses.

I would agree that smaller class sizes would be more conducive for educational quality, but I highly doubt that will happen unfortunately. The cost of educating and maintaining a stable of more teachers on payroll for less students doesn't seem like something that our current leadership seems interested in.

i don't disagree with the points mentioned but i think feasible alternatives need to be developed in tandem with our identification of the problem. mental health services are expensive because it's both difficult and expensive to become a psychologist. in fact, the mental health community are looking into training paraprofessionals (a.k.a. non-psychologists) to help out precisely because of the lack of manpower. want cheaper mental health services? get more people to offer it then. the question is how though? how do we encourage/force people to get into a challenging career for the "greater good"? same with bubble tea. sure you can swap plastic out for some more environmentally-friendly material. it's probably going to increase costs which would be passed onto consumers though. it might also make the consumption experience just flat out worse (i'm looking at you, paper straws). people who are concerned about the future of their offspring might scoff at this, but it undeniably would lower the immediate quality of life for many. so how do you balance making environmentally-conscious decisions and not compromising on quality of life?

  • @Ellen-eu2fh

    @Ellen-eu2fh

    2 жыл бұрын

@@guiishow2 Interesting point. Though I would like to offer that the balance to strike is not between protecting our future vs compromising in the present but a balance between those who agree to compromise and those who don't. Like you mentioned, all these initiatives that appear to be good for our future as a country most probably brings about discomfort and reduced quality of life in the present. In my view, we ought to compromise. Though definitely there will be a good portion of the population who would not agree to compromise. At this point, a compromise would then need to be made on how much to compromise. Take for example class sizes. The average primary class size in OECD countries is 21 pupils, as compared to our 30 to 40 students. Instead of paying x dollars more to cut our local class size to 21 to match the OECD average, perhaps a compromise can be made to reduce student numbers per class to 28 (arbitrarily chosen number please don't come after me for reason) whilst getting parents to pay x/2 dollars more. Hence, win-win situation for all - parents don't pay a lot more while quality of education improves. Tldr: we need to compromise with regards to compromising

Also target to have 60k EV chargers in 2030. Public buses changing to electric buses. How r all this not for climate change? R u taking everything done for climate change for granted? So no brownie points gained? As for vivian do u know why he said that? Cos he had explained and given answers for hours and the opposition MP keep asking the same questions again and again. How will u react if u r in his position? Vivian was very calmed and cooled in replying the opposition MP. Unfortunately the mic was not off when he said those words. Like u said he was human too. the comment about whether or not to go a traditional route or to go to ITE speaks out to me ALOT. the reason why ITE are there in the first place is to 1) provide an alternative for young adults to explore a much more hands-on and operational-based approach of learning in hopes to fill up job roles that students who go to JC/Poly would otherwise not choose to do. u can argue all you want but that is a fact. 2) there are some students, like myself, who at a very young age already know what i want to do 10-15 years (or even longer) down the road and the traditional route of going to JC just doesn't make any sense. the only reason why ITE has been known to be fucking terrible is that the students themselves made it that way. lecturers in ITE, more often than not, have better character, passion and dedication compared to JC/poly. i took the long route of going to ITE after missing a couple points for poly during N levels, going to army then going to poly so i know what it's like in both worlds. being in poly doesn't make you any smarter or better than those in ITE. im taking a culinary dip in republic and i can tell you for a fact that the kind of teaching materials and knowledge MOE tries to teach the students is just complete trash. the only saving grace are the occasional few lecturers that dare to teach in their own ways different from what they are told to do by their head of department. even then, most of what we learnt (a good 70%) in this course in this specific polytechnic course is completely irrelevant and outdated to what the current industry is practising. that was completely different when i was in ITE. most of the things i learned there were relevant and i could use what i learned in school during my internship and even later on. what i think is the most important is not which path to choose. your child MUST know what the fuck he/she wants to do or at least figure it out eventually. have the determination, grit and discipline to force themselves to explore that path before saying ok its really not for me its not working out. out of all the coursemates that i know in this course only, and literally, a small handful (like 2-3) have the discipline and determination to force themselves to work in this industry and figure out after grinding it through to know if its right for them and not just give up halfway when it gets tough. i think thats what the younger generation really need to cultivate. passion and love for a field can only get u so far. u might love to cook and have a deep passion for it but working in a professional kitchen 10-11 hours a day for 5-6 days a week every week for the rest of your working career or even a fraction of it is not a joke. this is the same for every field and every job out there. nothing in life is truly easy.

My pick is Ong Ye Kang. My opinion of lawrence after watching so many press conference is that, alot of times he gives a non answer to questions by the media and one time, minister Gan interject to give a direct answer. Generally i prefer someone who gives a direct answer, comes across as a genuine person.

Ye Kung is actually a very bad choice. Sigh... ... But it is best to let him be PM to let you know why. Kekekekeke... ... Lawrence will mess up big time indeed. The problem is, he will mess further; that's his nature. And he'd force it through... even if he has the slightest idea he is on the wrong path. Smart ideas ain't really smart is his theme of issues. Basically, none in Loong's team is considered a leader, there won't be a Lee Kuan Yew for a boat now in a storm as in the past. We are gonna lose a lot more than some air space... ... Kekekeke... ... But that's the fun. Your pick of Ye Kung shows you don't know how to see through a person's worth. But don't worry, most are like you. MTF has failed. That's all. I don't wanna point out the obvious. I know too much, and I am not really into sharing. LOL~ Be prepared for your booster, and support the government. LOL~ You all deserve the jabs... ...

My view of OYK is that he is too eager to answer and does not think through his reply well enough. When he just became health minister, a reporter asked if Singapore plans to let the vaccination cert expire if people do not go for a booster like what Israel is doing. OYK gave a hard No, and said the vaccination will not expire after you get two shots. This turned out to be false subsequently...

Ngl, this podcast has very strong PAP sentiment. Not saying Singaporeans shouldn't vote for PAP, but we have to hold them accountable as a voting body. When you have a political party that has undisrupted control, they will get complacent eventually.

I think when they are doing well, it is okay to praise them. You hold them accountable when you think they implement a policy that is detrimental to the country. I don't think we should hold an indefinite view that governments are scum that will take corrupt actions whenever it suits them.

I don't understand why people keep saying Lawrence Wong is the same as everyone else in PAP. The only same thing, is that he believes in meritocracy, but compared to LKY, Lawrence is more to the left. He believes that despite being successful through meritocratic means, those on the top should contribute more to help those on the bottom. Those leftists who keep complaining about having change, what change do you want? To be like the Nordic countries? Is that a better system? @31:50 exactly as what John said if you benefited from the system, it's a good system.

Watched all the 8 years of National Day rally. The problem is current G has no vision for the future, every year its, "Disruptive economy" "stay flexible" "Ready to pivot to new opportunities", the most impressive thing in 8 years of National Day rally was the annoucement of the greater southernwest water front plus seawall to counter global warming sea level rising. i feel there isn't much long term planning. Majority's choice for PM if we could choose is CONFIRM PLUS CHOP Tharman and by the requirements John mentioned Tharman is the man for the job, respected globally and wins elections.

Most Talented Singaporeans kept away from politics because they are not "yes" men.Unless you were one. This position is reserved only for a Chinese person as decided by the PAP as is documented. This is the definition of Institutional racism, also known as systemic racism.

What's wrong with voting for LTK or opposition? What do you mean "make noise in Parliament "? The recent Budget Debate in Parliament shows which party is making the most noise? Ban bbt? Wearing Ukraine flag colours represent SAF? Crying in Parliament like in some star awards and giving birthday shout outs to daughter? Degrees with expiry date? All these noise and clown shows come from which party?
