For full context, I am referring to the point discussed between 39:46 to 40:47. I cannot fully agree with Dr CSJ. Most of what he said is true. But because this is such a young audience, people forgot what he did to get himself into all that legal troubles. If CSJ tried to discredit ministers representing the government by presenting fake/unsubstantiated evidence, then he ought to be punished for it. This has nothing to do with "scoring points in a parliamentary debate" and trying to build cordial relationships outside of a parliamentary debate. The simple question we can ask is why then were people like Mr Chiam and Mr Low well-respected opposition leaders who spoke their mind but did not get sued. Also, not forgetting how CSJ backstabbed Mr Chiam. There were questionable things he did which served as red flags to his character and now he is trying to brush it under the carpet and paint himself as a political victim. And may I also say that this podcast is rather biased mainly because Jade is the one leading the narrative. It has moved away from the usual neutral position TDK has taken. Also, here we are using today's political and social view to judge 1990's politics.

Nonsense, the reason chiam and low were tolerated is because with, all due respect, they don't pose a threat. Think about it this way. There is a space called "opposition" in our political structure. If chiam and low don't fill it, someone else will. So it is in the interest of the government to have people who are not dangerous in that space otherwise you have a vacuum and someone like chee could fill that. It's the same reason why a "dissenter" like tommy koh is tolerated. Because he is ultimately ineffective.

I can recognise that some policies have to be tougher, for example policies that ppl may don’t like but looking back 20years on, it’s for the betterment of the country and I’m thankful for what the PAP has done. Dr Chee, yes right that he can share the various values he holds, but at times it’s just untruth or statements which proper fact checking or homework that was not done just to put the other party on a lower stage. I enjoyed the dynamics between the team, Jade and Dr Chee, and this showed a different side to both Dr Chee and Jade that I didn’t know about before. Jade was really attentively listening to Dr Chee and it was nice to see everyone give Dr Chee a safe space to share his side of the story and experiences. Dr Chee, if you are reading this , I would like you to know that there are many young adults like us admiring your courage and determination. We are a generation that has seen your name villainized and smeared during our primary school days. Growing up, we can see the change/direction you have put yourself into promoting your ideas and one can genuinely feel the "heart" you have for the common folk. "Heart" is clearly lacking in some politcians today, and the young generation definitely do not simply vote a party because of the good yesteryears of the previous leaders. Do hope to see you contest in the next election again

14:19 I actually disagree with this. Purely from an academics standpoint he may appear like a typical PAP candidate, but everything else about him really isn't. He's cleary a pretty smart guy, but his values are very westernised and leftist. Much more of an idealist than a pragmatist (Which is the number 1 typical trait of PAP ministers. They are super pragmatic and do things that feel are right no matter what. And in the past this was insensitive and at the detriment to the minorities) The way he talks emotionally with large tone variations and expressions is nice to listen too but is very reminiscent of politicians from western countries, and different from PAPs no fluff no smoke straight to the point communication style. (Watch how PAP ministers discussed things with each other in parliament in the 90s/2000s) So PAP would not have dared to touch a candidate like Jamus as he's too far from their ideals. Someone who actually genuinely fit PAPs ideals was Chen Show Mao. But he just quietly disappeared, never to be heard of again.

For sure but his mistakes or wrongs were also grossly amplified by the media. I see some old tired talking points about his western, leftist views. Is wanting a fairer and more equitable society only a western / leftist / liberal concept? YT comments is not a place for debate and those who espouse such views aren't likely to change their opinions of him either. And i'll say no more.

In PAP’s camp, the mudslinging is in, well, full swing. Throw in character assassination and lowblows into that mix too and it would really make the Bukit Batok resident wonder if all the grandiose Parliamentary speeches about ‘Constructive Politics‘ that these very men and women once delivered were merely for show.
During the first PAP rally held in Bukit Batok Stadium on Friday evening, a chunk of the speeches from Minister Grace Fu and Mdm Halimah Yacob was dedicated to disparaging Dr Chee.
Minister Fu’s words were, to say the least, contrary to her portfolio as the Minister for Culture and Community, Dr Chee hopes to be a full-time MP, but you should note he’s not actually giving up a full-time job. As far as I know, he hasn’t held a steady job for many years. Let me be clear. I’m not criticizing his position to not hold a full-time job for so long. That is his personal choice. But the work experience, or the lack of it, is a relevant fact when we consider the credentials of the candidate. In a move that was anything but graceful, she even asked Dr Chee if he had a “referral letter from Mr Chiam See Tong.” Perhaps she, just like her fellow Minister, Vivian Balakrishan, should be schooled by Dr PJ Thum on the ‘history of backstabbing.’

When someone is in the room, address the person using his or her name rather than the impersonal "him" or "he". It is rather rude not acknowledge someone, especially a guest. This is not a criticism; just an observation.

Great ketchup as usual! Highlight of this episode was by far John's indulgent boba ASMR. The succulence of the pearls shined through with every chewy bite in what is undoubtedly a finely brewed beverage, which parallels the deep and meaningful conversation on life and politics between 5 intelligent people, creating a truly visceral podcast experience. Verdict: 4 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Typically up close and personal as you would expect from a Daily Ketchup Show, interesting stories aplenty. Disclaimer: High fidelity chewing sounds may induce misophonia, viewer discretion is advised. - Jokes aside, loved this episode

plenty of people joined the PAP, some join without understanding the values of the party, thinking it is a social movement. to then say that "I was invited to join the Young PAP", is such a buey paiseh comment. It's not like he was invited to stand for elections as a PAP candidate. I was invited to join SDP and NSP on the streets just like how many SDP, NSP members were recruited. Do I know go around blowing the horn that I was invited to join SDP? Even being invited to tea sessions is not a big deal, I personally know a certain 1x opposition party leader who failed the tea session and immediately went cozying up to an already old an frail former opposition MP so that he could stand for elections with a ready flag. failed to win and left the scene. Jade Rasif doesn't know what she's talking about re: the party whip. PAP MPs air their differing views in parliament regarding policies all the time. It is allowed. The party whip simply requires all MPs to take the same stance when it is time to implement vote and implement the policy. This is what it takes to be a party.

@mohdmuzzy4163 if he can betrayed his mentor and robbed his mentor in modern days without life threatening to himself I wonder what can he do to the country and citizens. Also if he could cheat during a hunger strike probably he could cheat other things if he was in power. Corruption? Just saying. Lol
