Are Lighter Discs Better? | Testing the Effects of Different Disc Weights
Disc weight is a topic that is often discussed in the disc golf world as an important factor when choosing the right disc for you to help ensure you get maximum distance and accuracy. But truthfully, we were curious to know…. how important is it REALLY?
Are there substantial differences in flight if you increase or decrease the weight by a few grams, or even as much as 10 to 20? And how do you go about finding the right weighted disc for YOUR game?
Well, we here at JustDisc were very curious about the importance of this factor, so we decided to test the effects of 1 mold in different weights. And honestly, the results were surprising and not exactly what we expected!

The lighter disc's help me a lot, mainly because I have limited arm speed, finding the best weight for your arm speed is essential for control and distance potential, if your max distance is 250 embrace it & dial it in, accuracy always wins.

As an older disc golfer (51 - who started at 49) most content seems to be aimed at younger, more athletic people. I appreciate content that can help average, older folks like myself. This video is a great one for someone like me. Thank you.

Videos like what Ezra did where he showed flight patterns for distant drivers and fairway drivers. I appreciated the flight tracker and how we as the viewer can see how each manufacturer is similar or different when compared to the rest.

Thanks for the video! As a 48 year old, 25 year regular disc golfer, this is affirming and helpful! I spent 2023 lowering my average disc weight from 173g down to 168g. It's made a considerable difference in control, distance, and consistency. I also don't feel like I'm working as hard to move this weight class. Always an ongoing experiement.. Happy Throwing all!!

Been disc golfing a few months. I'm 65, but better late than never. Getting a lot of great online content to bring my game up. Starting to get better distance and accuracy. I probably need more experience with disc selection, based on the specific the requirements of the shots. After watching the video today, I should probably buy an understable disc. Thank for the video!

Not a problem Rick, glad you got something out of it! Honestly, pick up a Latitude 64 River or Innova Leopard3 in a weight between 160 to 165g. They are both great stable distance drivers that will help you learn the game a bit easier over time. And if you want something faster with your current skill level and experience, go with the Innova Mamba or Innova Mystere 👍 Just make sure they aren’t too heavy

My favorite video of yours is pick up a wraith and put down a destroyer! I used to throw destroyers because I saw all the pros using them. Then I tried a star wraith and fell in love with it. Now I bag 3 wraiths in different stabilities and I’m never going back!

Wow, so much great information. I’ve been eyeing the river for quite some time, and thought if I went lighter, based on the assumption that lighter is farther, it actually is too understable in my drives and my high speed turns seemed more like -2 or -3. I now understand why having heavier discs would be beneficial for me. I like your disk selections, and educationalist videos, and the videos on the types of discs one should have in their bag.

As a returning (and much older) player, I really appreciate content on the ‘mental’ side of disc golf - applying the principles of specific characteristics (expected flight shape, effect of wind, altitude, humidity and temperature, etc.) to specific situations on the course. Some of that can be picked up by watching pros in various conditions and eventually you can discern the patterns, but a scientific or empirical review is extremely useful in figuring out how to apply those concepts to my game. Thanks for the content - subscribed!

Really enjoyed this video as it continues to help me build criteria for picking discs and is also adding some context to why I enjoy certain discs and the reason behind their flight. I have been enjoying the mix of reviews and tutorials. I think the how you play series is very unique and adds a lot of value and uniqueness as it’s principles in practice. :) Love the multiple camera angels in the studio!

I've been looking for a video with weight comparison for awhile. I've been curious as to when to choose X or Y weight depending on disc choice and shot type. This gave me a lot of the information I was needing!

I just started playing disc golf earlier this year and this is the first channel I subscribed to. I would like to hear your thoughts on playing in tournaments - how you approach the tourney, strategy for different types of holes, a "typical" day at a tourney, etc. The videos I would like to see in the future are how to practice, how to progress from beginner to amateur tourney player and beyond and any instructional videos that help you get from point A to point B. Like Canada, I live in Chicago and getting time to play at a course is limited now as it is getting into winter and along with bad weather, it is dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home. So what can we do in the winter to stay sharp or get better? Thanks!

I would love to see a video where you explain or give tips on how to make your first disk golf bag. Personally I just got into the sport and have really liked watching your videos so far, they’ve been really informative. So a video like that would really help.

I think it would be a great idea to do a video about tournments to explain things like what to expect what division to play in or when it's a good time to move up or down divisions

This confirmed my theory a year ago. 1. No real added distance. 2. Easier to throw causes more spin which causes right turn so get overstable to straighten out. 3. Only use with 10+ speed discs.

I enjoy the videos on Distance and Form. Hearing different perspectives from different people and seeing what "Clicks" for me is what's been the most helpful thing to my game. Also like videos like this as I too would assume the lighter weight disc would be the way to go. Neat seeing that its not always the case.
