I started thinking of it more like a set of dance steps. I started out standstill which was a little bit of a mistake, made adding the steps a little harder. That being said, the biggest help was slowing down, extremely slow to start, and as i get comfortable ive naturally sped up. Im getting to the point where im finally starting to put it all together

Good stuff - I really like the bits about not overlengthening hips and shoulders. I'll have to remember that. Like a lot of sports, it's about working and leading from the ground up and shoulders working to create separation instead of power.

I got tired of throwing out my shoulder and elbow every summer and decided this year was the year to learn backhand. I discovered your videos pretty early in the year and they have helped me immensely. I can drive 400' forehand and now also backhand thanks to you. Now you just gotta teach me how to putt 😂.

Something I would also add and check out, Mcbeth does it on most of his throws, just not in this slo mo and others pros talk about it and you can see it in their form is the leg placement. They are not in line with each other like what you are doing in this video. The front leg is staggered a little bit. Basically have the front heel line up with their back toe. Makes you engage your hips/core more and also makes it a lot easier to coil.

You have helped me a lot with my backhand. I have always been forehand dominant player and can throw it constantly over 430ft and my bachand was stuk at 360ft so i didnt feel that i need it that mutch but couple a weeks ago i started just fooling around whit my backhand and started breaking rules of throwing that i had in my head. I put my frontleg heel straight at throwing direction and turned my shoulderline 180° to the target and disc just ripped out of ny fingers. I got so meny thorws over 460ft and it was so easy to aim for some reason. What you think that happened? Did i finaly get my upper body timing right? I think there is mutch to gain with more legs and hips but this feels so good right now that i dont want mes it too mutch. Your video of the grip was also one of the keymakers in my backhand!

Workout for mobility AND strength with Kettlebells and your gsme will inprove. There are plenty of drills for form but what I see ln the course in 90% of people dont understand how to actually move their body and are massively off balance. Slam balls are great for disc golf training an a lot of resistance band work can help as well. I really like that you pointed out how being on the heel is a great detriment as well. Ive been training my feet in many ways and speednoff the heel abd on to the toe is a separator in the athletics world.

I watch some of your vids and I am curious about this one. I've been trying to emulate Cole Redalen's form and my best/most effortless throws are when I get my shoulders close to 180. Many other form videos highlight the shoulder turn. Is this possibly a tip that varies for different individuals? I throw Wraiths about 430' with perfect throws going around 460' for reference.

  • @rogerhuston8287
    @rogerhuston82879 ай бұрын

Paul does this because he like to look at his target and it has more to do withhis shoulder position. While what you are saying is correct, the reason people don't get it is because you are teaching in the wrong direction. Teach people the release first and work backwards so people can build into it. Once folks understand the release, it is easier to teach the the coil because they know the position they need to get too. Lastly, the coil is for the legs. The spin starts in the hips, the coil prevents energy from being lost as you start yor spin.

Usually it’s a multi-chain issue but the concept of loading and coil at the same time, and having that off side engagement start the throw is so crucial! Love it! Slingshots for everybody!

This is what helped me, go to a field and do the coil technique like in the video from a standstill without a disc in hand , do that for 10 mins and then add a disc, throw using the technique from a standstill to get used to the coil, this may take some time for the body to remember the action, it took me close to 40 mins till I fully got it. After that add the approach with the coil, do that till your comfortable with this coil technique, if you are having trouble just go back a step and practice the coil some more, it also helps to film yourself and watch it back in slow motion to see exactly where the problem is in the coil. Hope this may help you.

I workout, I box, I have really strong legs, so it's frustrating not getting distance with my throws. My current snag I think it's nose angle. I get some good rips on my disc every now and then, a loud snap and the disc is zipping down the fairway thanks to watching these videos. But I can always see the stamp on top of the disc and my flight paths are borked because it's just immediately slowing down and hyzering out. Ironically when there is a strong head wind is when I get my most distance, I think it forces the nose down a bit. I have really bad mobility in my right wrist so I wonder if that is the issue since it's hard to 'pour the coffee'

Look at arm path, see if you're reaching back low and swinging upwards. If path is good, then it probably can be grip. Pouring tea gets you half way there, having a grip to compliment it is the other. There's a couple videos giving ideas for how to grip it nose down and after playing around with so many different ways to position my fingers I found one that works after months of struggling with nose angle. I kinda have my thumb and index pushing the nose down with the middle and ring finger further back pushing the back up.

Thanks for this great instructional video!. Focusing on the important check points on the disc golf throw can be the difference from doing it wrong to WOW!, the best result possible!!. I will practice this over and over, and over again. All one needs to improve, is not only to practice the fundamentals you have pointed out here, make a video of yourself doing the sling shot coil process, and you will enjoy disc golf to the max. Merry Christmas my friend!☺Hopefully this video is the best Christmas present any disc golfer could ask for!☺Sincerely, Bill M., PDGA #7378

You can it's just very difficult to get everything right. Even at the pro level there are only a few like McBeth who make the coil move work. Honestly disc golf backhand is one of the more difficult sport moves to get right.

There's a lot of nonsense language and wording in this video, but the difference between an open hip and coiling into the hip on the back leg was helpful. The rest unfortunately was word salad.

So, I don't like to tell people thier wrong, but I feel this is all wrong. First, Coach T I really appreciate your love for the community. So, I don't care how much you bend your knees, once you transfer your weight from back to front, your back foot de-weights. It's impossible to push off back foot if you transfer correctly. You can push from back foot while transferring weight to front. Another thing, seabass22 is the GOAT of discgolf mechanics and he doesn't teach coiling the core. Tjats dangerous. You shouldn't be out.of breath from showing us a drill but Coach T is always out of breath when he does this. Do you ever see pro breathing heavy? The backhand is not an exercise. The point is to make it as effortless as possible, not coiling the core and running out of breath after every throw. I'm sorry but I had to say something and I know you Coach T followers are going to give me some hate.

  • @michaelcushman

Different isn't wrong. Different is different. Seabass22 uses a pendulum style (like a golf swing) Europeans spin like a figure skater (historically, but more leg compresion in younger throwers). Those methods move off the back leg fairly quickly. Slingshot style powers off the back leg, using a piston action of the shin forward and rotation coming from uncoiling the core. Imo, the pendulum takes the least energy and strength and is best for most amateurs, recreational players. Slingshot requires strong legs and core. It is only for the most serious who are willing to work on building their body's strength and mobility. If you can't squat on one leg, or at least come close, Slingshot style just won't work for you.

Exactly. There are def different ways and he’s out of breath bc he’s just showing a specific thing at the highest intensity just as an example. Coiling is where it’s at just like it is with every other sport

I’ll tell you what, the number one reason why I struggle with distance in disc golf is because I was feeding my sweet dog the other day, and decided to have him lick hummus off my hands for the first time. I didn’t think that he would even like it, but unfortunately he liked it so much that he started viciously biting my fingers off one by one very very, very bloody, very dramatic scene. My wife came in screaming hitting our dog over the head with a frying pan and he wouldn’t stop. Finally, I said, hey boy look there’s a squirrel and he ran away and released my hand ever since then, I have to hold the disc between my only two fingers left with her in my pinky and my second finger. my distance prolly dropped by 200 feet. maybe when I get the prosthetic fingers back from the laboratory I will watch this video and continue on my journey of becoming a professional disc golfer.
