Still makes no sense if the modern day cavity back still has almost as much workability as a blade to use a blade unless you just like the feel. But why punish yourself for being 2 mill off at impact.

@@Destins2 A lot of the pro’s still use blades, me & my playing partner use blades too. They still have a place, all it would take is someone TaylorMade to do their classic marketing about a new bladed iron and everyone good enough to use them would want them. Blades have always been a low choice iron because they’re the hardest to hit but they’ll never go away, I mean, Tiger still uses them…

I game Titleist 680's. Adam Scott and maybe a few other tour players are known to use them. I don't know if I will ever be able to take them out the bag unless I get a perfect set of irons fitted for me. I wish the 4 iron was more forgiving at times of course but the distance and spin control with them are u believable. And the shot shaping capabilities I must add

I play them 1/2" under length for better control. Nice high, spinny flight and excellent precision ability up and down the bag. Hit these things flush and they'll drop and stop the ball right where you want it. And they're actually a lot more forgiving than people think.

I use the Cobra RF MB copper blades; not the protos, but the production models. No, I don’t hit every shot perfect. No, I can’t hit a 7 iron 200 yds. I play them, because I like to play them. You get what you put into them. Swing not in tempo? Ouch. Mishit? Ouch. They have made me a more precise player. I find art in that. I’ve shot my best rounds of the year playing these clubs. One week, I went 73, 72, 75. I’m thrilled with that, and I enjoyed the art that I created playing those blades. I’m never going to be on tour. I’m never even going to regularly be a scratch player. I’m just a working stiff, that goes out when he can to enjoy the game. As a test for a week I took out some Callaway Apex irons. Played worse. Didn’t enjoy the feel. Not as fun. And they were a lot easier to hit. There’s something awesome about playing blades, and when I do get to play on a good course, which I usually can’t, it sure is nice hitting those blades off the nice fairways. Just so much fun and rewarding.

I tried some AP2’s for a while but my distance control suffered, it was harder to flight them low and shape the ball the way I like, they didn’t feel/sound as good plus they simply don’t fit my eye and I have less confidence over the ball with a chunkier head. My iron game/GIR has always been my greatest strength on the course and I’ve been playing essentially the same titliest MB set up since 03 when I got my first set of 690’s. I know they’re going to do exactly what I want them to do, the cavity backs just seemed to want to go high, long, straight, with less spin no matter the swing you put in them. Shaping the ball into different pin locations is what I do best and I truly believe switching to MB’s when I was younger was a huge part of my iron game getting as sharp as it is. The last tournament I won I hit 16/18 GIR on Sunday in brutal wind, one of the greens I barely missed and actually made birdie on then the other was i intentionally laid up and missed the 18th green to play for bogey so that one hardly counts when I could of went for it easily from 180ish but I was 5 ahead and won by 4 on one of the toughest public courses in the country (33rd). Also even though I’m a good driver of the ball, I only hit driver twice all weekend, my ping 1 iron and titliest MB’s won that windy tournament for me no doubt. I think I’ll stick to my blades.

This is exactly what happened to me. For me, the combination of increased ball speed with decreased spin on off center strikes with cavity backs makes it very hard to control distance. I definitely hit them farther, and on decent strikes they are straighter. But 2 or 3 times a round I'd hit one and it would nuke 20 yards over the green. For some reason, only cavity back players are convinced that anyone who plays different clubs than them must be doing so out of ego or some other mental problem. If any company starts to make super forgiving irons that don't have really hot, high spin faces. I'll be first in line to test them.

Game improvement irons have almost ZERO effect on those kinds of bad shots. From the 7 down, they do very little, even for good golfers. Bad golfers can't hit the longer irons anyway. Just watched a video, and this could be different for the middle HDC irons, but blades are actually more consistent distance wise, than ultra forgiving irons. (Ie darkspeed irons, p790s, etc) The spin is much better and you lose maybe 10-15 yards vs 35ish yards on similar mishits.

This is correct. Its why I'm selling my P790s to go back to playing MP-5s. I lost 4 shots on approach strokes gained due to distance control issues with hot faced irons. The people who buy into the concept of "forgiveness" are just falling for marketing. The data doesn't lie, some pros love hybrids. Others hate them. Why? It's not that "hybrids are more forgiving than long irons", its that hybrids maintain ballspeed over a larger area of the face. That could be good or bad for you, depends on how you strike the ball.

Blades offer the ability to advance your play at the cost of learning to more skillfully and precisely strike the ball. They will always exist because where there is 2 friends using cavity backs, someone needs to feel more dominant and needs to justify and prove their own skill and effort put in to the sport. They switch clubs, brag about how they learned to hit blades, but then fall off and start hitting poorly again. Or only improved 2 strokes and put in twice as much practice as before. Honestly seems like only necessary if your already nearing scratch and you want to up your game while in your prime. Too many suburban dads over 30 or 10 handicap golfers think they are one blade set away from making tour.

There are advantages to blades...consistent distance and spin, but the best part...you'll discover that the blades aren't the handicap, you are. Are blades made for better golfers, or do blades make better golfers? Had that question answered a long time ago.

He’s talking mince. P770 has jumpers but not in the way people think. It’s just really bad around the sweet spot which is where most live so that one out the middle, goes the distance it’s meant to. Club golfers and competent hitters aren’t the same. A distinction that’s left out of these conversations.

I play my best with blades. The thinner, the better. I've tried to go to cavity backs a couple times but I always go back to my Mizuno MP 69s. I just can't hit an iron with any thickness to the top line. Can't explain it. Just is what it is.

I have a new set of TM P7MC's in 2024'. I have to say I am not a fan of the co-forged tungsten, polymer filled irons. They are way too 'Cheezy' and strong lofted. Irons should be made to a std loft, like 30* - 6 iron and 46* - PW.

If people miss hit a cavity back and end up pin high it shows they cant club very well or they are talking shite. Miss hit a club and hit one well they both go the same?? BS. If you miss hit a blade you come up a bit short but the benefit is they are more consistent. You don’t have to be a worldy to play them either. Another myth

Unless you shoot 67 every round with blades there is absolutely no reason to play them. Ive known several low handicaps thinking they are good enough and it ruined their game until they went back to some sort of small cavity. I never understood blades cause no one not even the pros hit it absolutely perfect each shot. If even once per a round you come up 10 yards short of the pin with blades its not worth it. Blades are also always played by guys that shouldnt be playing them lol.
