I have a different grip. I call it the "hammer". It's the same grip (and technique) that Olympic hammer throwers use ... I find it very useful just before I launch my putter into a greenside pond.

I'm traditional , but I like to let my index finger follow the shaft as if I'm putting with my finger. Idk but it helps. Also got to find a putter you just feel good with , weight , shape , feel , and for me the most is shaft line up to head I like center so I aim my shaft at ball for center strikes and it has helped me a ton above everything.

The reason I stick to traditional is because reverse and claw are SO hard when you’re lag putting/ 30+ feet away unless you’re on super fast greens, and I don’t like switching grips ever. Putting is really hard but it’s also the easiest thing to practice. Find one grip, stick to it, practice as much as possible, and you should be fine.

Hi Rick, I watched your longer video on different ways to grip the putter earlier this year. I tried them all and decided on the claw/pencil grip. I also went ahead and got a fitted SIK armlock putter. I have practiced and am now a (ta da!) mediocre putter. This is a huge improvement from my starting point, where my distance control was terrible and I couldn't start the ball on line consistently. Thanks for going into this important area.

The only issue I have with the non-traditional grip is putter feel and stroke control. The reverse you sometimes get that pop stroke, which you lose putter head feel. The claw the distance control is a bit off, because the feel is just not there. I am a traditional putter, but use a slight forward press making sure putter head goes along your stroke line letting the head naturally arc at follow through.

I guess mine is the 4th option lol I hold mine kinda like a hockey stick but not as exaggerated, like my hands are 3-4 inches apart on the grip. I find my wrist are more locked in place and have a smoother stroke than if they were together as I find if they are together the center of gravity is more pinpointed at the end and not dispersed over a larger area and there is more movement at the club head. My putting has drastically improved over the past couple years because of this as the line and ball speed can be bettered controlled and I can push it in to the hole, similar to throwing darts, which I am also good at lol

@ Rick Shiels: Dave Pelz says that putting is 95% face angle and 5% path. Hold your putter (however you like) and see if you can "rotate" the putter face. Of course you can, easily, and that is the problem. Maintaining the face angle square to your chosen line at impact. What if you couldn't "rotate" the face? Try this, place the lead hand on the grip, as far closed as possible (you will see the back of the hand and all of the knuckles). Then place the trail hand on the grip, as far closed as possible (you will see the back of the hand and all of the knuckles). Now try to "rotate" the putter face. It stays absolutely locked in place! This grip eliminates off-line putts. Now all you have to do is read the line and hit it hard enough to get to the hole. :)

@@jamiethompson1142 Place the hand on the grip, as far "over-rotated" with the palm facing down, as possible. The lead hand will want to relax and close the putter face but the trail hand will want to relax and open the putter face. The net effect is the putter face is twisted equally in both directions (open and closed) and remains locked in place. When you look at your hands on the club, you will see the backs of both hands facing up

@Sueezedtight: Thanks for replying. I think I got it now. If I do have it that means the trail hand is placed below the lead hand and there is no overlapping.
