I always preferred the blades… but, BLEND ME UP!!! Love the blade feels, but for the long irons it’s nice to have a little help when I’m not exactly striking it.
Blades. They look great, especially when properly displayed at the clubhouse. Blades also send a message to fellow golfers that you know what you’re doing while only max 3 people will surely find out when you tee off..
Playing a combo... Blades PW to 8, 7 to 4 are "very shallow cavities". Not that it makes that much of difference, but maybe the CBs feel a tad better when you miss the centre.
The debate between which is better for high handicappers has always baffled me. It seems like the general consensus is that beginners and intermediate players should play CBs, blades are much better suited to low handicappers and pros, and that a beginner trying to learn with blades is a road to nowhere. Personally - I exclusively use blades, and play off +19. I used to be off +30 when I started 6 months ago, and have never used CBs as my primary irons. The idea was to start learning with clubs that require a lot of skill to use, and then work towards gaining that skill even if it takes longer and causes more frustration. It has 100% been a pain in the ass and I've 100% considered dumping the blades for a nice, comfortable set of CBs, but now my ballstriking is miles ahead of where I used to be. The majority of my lost strokes are due to duffed chips, rudimentary bunker game and offline putts. In summary, everyone's comfort level is different and most people aren't willing to take an unnecessarily rigorous approach to gaining skill in a sport where the main goal of most players is to have as much fun as possible. It is absolutely easier to start with CBs and then work towards blades, if it's what you want to play. But you will make faster progress (in spite of the constant frustration), and your skills will be more refined and ingrained from training more intensely, for more time. My approach is not for everyone, in fact it's probably not for most people -but I know it works.

Ehhh not necessarily. Lots of pros are switching to CBs. Blades are a dying breed IMO.
Blades in the months April to sept when you play more frequently and the conditions are good Oct to April blended set of cavities when you play less and poor conditions
I went back to my blades for 2023. The look, feel, spin and distance consistency is just better for me with the blades.

Same. Blades have always performed better for me too.
I have blades for 8i through wedges, forged game improvement 5-7 and hollow body 3,4. Somebody needs to make that set. Only want hotter faces on maybe 3-5 irons.

Sounds like what I’m trying to build!
Srixon make some of the most forgiving blades tbf. I still game the z965 blades and they’re awesome. Can’t get them out the bag
I started playing golf back in April. I bought my first real set of clubs around June (blades) as I've only recently discovered they're called. I also only recently found out about cavity backs, so I've been practicing for 5 months with blades and had no idea they are the hardest of 2 types to play with LOL. Here I am playing with blades while everyone else has been playing cavity backs, no wander they hit better and it sounds different, I thought all Irons were the same LOL
Feels and workability are what I look for in Irons, I am being fitted for Taylormade Irons, and my numbers are right in the middle of p770 and p7mc irons. I am a 12 handicap.
Cavity backs all day. They give me confidence, help me with miss hits and don't hurt my hands when I do.
I much prefer the look of the blades, but game the Cleveland you show, as I need the help. Cleveland are really under-rated, and incredibly good value. That's true of their fairway woods as well as their irons. Great company.
Combo set all day
Forged cavity backs. I love my Maltby TE's.
Swing speed is quite important a slower swing speed wouldn’t be able to get the launch with a blade so can opt for a cavity back but a high handicap with a fast swing speed absolutely can use a blade and get the launch and spin needed to hold a green. I personally love blades cause I know I have to swing the club well to hit the middle and get a good result
Both...t200 5 6 7 t100s 8,9 pw...blend perfectly...prefer blades for the scoring clubs
i noticed immediately the difference when using a pitching wedge and a cavity back 11iron( 50°) the blade felt soo good and could play the shot much better
I only swing blades cuz I’m an idiot, stubborn and don’t want help. If I make a bad swing I wanna be punished

There’s really not as big of a difference as you’d think. It’s mostly club company’s marketing gimmicks that make people believe there’s way more forgiveness when the reality is a bad swing with any club is going to be bad and same for a good swing. I find it hard to flight in 3/4 shots with a big chunky club, they tend to just fly to far even when taking some off, the blades feel better and tend to hold firm greens better, look better, flight better, ect. Also having a smaller head makes your misses get smaller and just the opposite with a big iron head you’ll tend get sloppier with ballstriking. Especially 5i-wedges I think the average golfer would seriously benefit from playing a smaller blade style club or at least a smaller style cb rather than these huge hybrid like irons.
I play 718 AP2s and boy the 5 misfits and skulking across the green are worth the pure strike feel lol
Was brought up with blades but now I use a muscle back cavity back clubs
I've gamed both. I prefer forged clubs, so I'd go for the blades.
Im a good ball striker, but I dont work the ball left/right. I just try to hit it straight at my target if i can, so im wondering if i should switch from cavity to a blade since theres really no advantage if im not working the ball?
Blades, blades, and blades!
It literally doesn't matter.. you still have to strike it to be able to play well.
Its wild that people will play with a worse club just because of its looks.
Monty done ok with cavity backs
Ferrari or a Camry?
Blades all day. Everytime I’ve tried out some cavity backs my ball striking and distance control suffers.
Cavity Back for sure… the blade reminds me of a stuck up skinny chick that thinks she is WAAAAAY OUT of everyone’s league… or maybe just mine cause I need all the forgiveness you can afford me:)
Mix of them
Lots of 'feel' comments for blades. I think it feels better to walk 150 yards for a slight mishit on a cavity back, than it does to walk 50 yards following a mishit on a blade

The difference is really not that big. It's more like the miss-hit blade goes 140 yards, with same loft a cavity would go 142 or something... Enough to avoid the bunker with the blade and be plugged in it with the SGI ;)

When the differences in mishits are that significant, it's entirely due to user error. Both clubs are capable of creating optimal ball flight, it's just that the people swinging them usually aren't and some are even less so than others.
What If I like blades, and I want to feel sexy, but I honestly couldn't hit my own foot with a club if you tied my leg still?

Get blades because if you're that bad no golf tech will help your game but you still look cool at the clubhouse.
Cavity because I swing like an axe murderer
Zx7s all day
Why would anyone play blades when cavities offer more forgiveness? Even the pros admit to being less than perfect so why do we persist with thinking we're perfect. Leave your ego at the carpark folks.

I can shed some light on your question, as someone who started out with blades and still uses them exclusively. Not everyone who plays blades is doing it because they think they have more skill than they really do. That's not to say that there aren't lots of people who do - those people usually equate a high price and sharp design with improved performance, not fully believing that whatever additional performance they think blades will offer can only be fully accessed by a skilled user. The other two main types that play blades are advanced players and pros, but there is a fourth type - high handicappers using blades as a tool to increase skill at a faster rate within the same timeframe. I am in the fourth group, at +19hcp. For perspective, my first official handicap was +30 6 months ago, and I've only ever played blades. I'm +19 because I've neglected the short game more than I should have, and 3 putt multiple times per round. But the irons are the comfort zone.

Cos my JPX 919 Tours look and feel better than cavity backs 👍🏼 Also started playing with them around 18 handicap, probably 18 months ago. Now a 9 handicap, they have certainly improved my ball striking.
