@@HelpMeDevvon Please do this!! & more specific stuff like if y'all are discussing your favorite mics, do you tend to prefer a certain mic for recording female/male vocals? is it genre dependent? or if you ever record instruments. I would also love if y'all discuss misconceptions or overrated effects & techniques, because i feel like learning from KZread University there's a lot of bad tips/information or just overemphasis on certain techniques. a common one a while back was sidechain bass to kick, that kind of stuff

Acoustic treatment is such a game changer. Knowing where to place your panels is crucial though. You don’t need a ton if you place them correctly. Treat your reflection points by sitting in your mix position and have someone hold a mirror against the wall and walk the length of the wall. Anywhere that you see your speaker in the mirror is a reflection point and a panel needs to go there. Treat behind your monitors, above your mix position and put something behind you to diffuse the sound like a book shelf. Throw bass traps in your corners and your good to go.

The Adam Audio T7V is a PHENOMENAL bang for buck. I choose these studio monitors for mixing because I do not want to overpower my apartment neighbors, or blow the woofer in more expensive, Adam Audio A7Xs. I think for the price that you pay for the set of Adam Audio T7Vs, you might just be purchasing the best studio monitor of the century for home studio applications.

I believe the room and treatment is more important than the type of speaker. I agree with Devon, I've used the HS yamahas and my ear would be fatigued fast af with that bright high end. switched to Kali LP and i can listen on those for hours, also better stereo image i think on the LP

Yamaha HS7 are very easy on my ears versus the krk vxt 8 I used to have. Now I use the Focal Shape 65. I never took the HS7 as a excited speaker. Everything I mixed on the HS7 translated very well and my mixes sounded the same on multiple sources

Honestly ever since I got my Adam T7Vs, I really do think they are the best at getting better at mixing your music. I will get something sounding pretty good on them, and then when i hear it on my phone with earbuds it sounds way more exciting than i thought it would. My only complaint is they have a bit too much high end where you gotta tone down the highs a bit in the mix. For their price they are unbeatable I think for 750 a pair.

Room correction and overall room control is a big deal. Even with inexpensive speakers if your working in a room that doesn't have enough reflection control it will affect the way you hear things. I went through KRK's, JVC's, and landed on Focal Trio 6's sure it was an investment, but my mixes sound so much better than ever. Having that separation of sub, mid, high makes a big difference when you're mixing. The 2 way speakers have that imaginary stereo field that you have to be in the right spot to hear things and still struggle hearing things properly in the right fields.

Well to get something clear about Neumann the Neumann brand owns, Sennheiser, and they acquired the company Merging technologies, which makes incredibly high performance Ethernet based interfaces with class leading conversion. Now for that alone, I would say they have a stacked line up as an all in one company even tho I don’t feel any of the Neumann brands make my favorite products in the respective categories

  • @qlyde

It definitely depends on your room, your taste, etc. I’ve got the Rokit 8 G4’s and I’m not making hip hop, I’m mostly working on indie jazzy funky type of music, people clown a bit sometimes like “why you got a Rhodes and KRK’s at the same time” lol. But I’ve tried the Kali’s, the Yamaha’s and the Adam’s and none of them suited me or my room. The only pair of sub $400 speakers that have ever outshined my KRKs in my room are the Focal Alpha 65 Evo’s (6.5”), just my personal opinion. They were so damn good and the bass was clearly lower and more defined than the bigger 8” KRKs, the only reason I didn’t buy them is because if those 6.5s were that good then the 8’s must be better, but I might end up moving to a smaller room with better acoustics so I dont know what size I’ll actually want until I’ve figured out what room I’ll be in. Ps. Focal is not a new company, they actually supplied the drivers to KRK when KRK first started, Focal still has some of those yellow style drivers in their other lineups. They’ve been around since 1979 and have one of the best factories and quality control on the planet in terms of speaker manufacturing!

I actuallly intentionally off skew SLIGHTLY the standard position for the listening position and monitor set up because we don't listen to music in the real world in a perfect listening position. but at the same time I wanna make sure I don't have any slap back and forget if I did that or if its from the room, that's the only thing I take care of, I don't usually bump stuff loud enough for the walls to shake and what not, of course I turn it up when i need to haha. Also found that too dead of a space is almost worse than a space with an atmosphere in it. I prefer the atmospheric recording over dead silence.

Krk does have have a premium series currently known as the v series and previously the vxt series you can get a used set of the VXT speakers for less than or around the cost of Yamaha HS8 and for the price being able to get those used krks for that price I’m taking the old KRK VXT any day (I’ve had both) that being said I do tend to mix quite a bit on Avantone mixcubes

Yo I had to pull over because mr Fl studio be straight capping!!!! Lol 😂 those krk monitors are a staple yes, but they’re not better that Adam and the Yams!!! Yes the Adam T7V or T8V are the more cost effective monitors the A7X are the higher end models and they both sound amazing!!! The ear fatigue issue is real and I have the Adams T8V and I have never had fatigue while listening to them. The sound is softer sounding, you can get a heavy sound from it too and they are CLEAN….. CLEAN!!!! The Yams are clean punchy AF not gonna lie but they sound really good too

Barefoot Amphions transient response by far better than all of these and blow away any Yamaha. Genelec ones create the most accurate listening environment and blow away the rest.

I'm Gonna Give You Guys Some Advice as far as purchasing monitors .. Get The Biggest Monitors You Can Afford.. people say if you have a small room you don't need big speakers which is true but at the same time I look at it this way .. a larger cone = wider sweet spot.. also if you have a 5 inch speaker and wanna hear your stuff knock.. you'll have to damn near blow the speaker out ... another plus of a larger monitor is the bass.. if you have a smaller room you probably won't need a sub if you get a 8 inch monitor.. and you can always turn it down to the listening level you want... and you won't have to push the monitors as hard .. which also helps with sound quality... trust me I'll save you money in the long run .. I bought KrK 5s as my first monitors .. ended up blowing one out and just said screw it and went with the kali audio 8s and I love these monitors

Ableton is definitely "able by a ton",(womp womp lol) especially in the live world. I too would laugh in the face of KRK lol i be hating those. So that would be my 1 gotta go. Although I loved the VXT series as an exception!! Yamaha is such a dope company as a whole. They killing the game with damn near everything with music instruments and audio. Anyone heard the Eve studio monitors? I'm also someone that completely mixes on headphones only cuz I don't have the space for studio monitors. However, if I can get my hands on some, it would be Adam Audio, Kali Audio, Focal, Eve monitors, Genelec, Event or even Yamaha monitors.

Everyone thinks that what they have is the best. The best monitors I've ever heard(haven't heard them all) are the genelec 1 series and I dont own them. I'd also say ATCs were the other top monitors I've ever heard. Not sure which ones they were though, but they made an impression on me. I never got to mix on either of them, but my suspicion is that the Genelecs w/ the SAM technology would translate like a dream. If I had to chose, I'd have a hard time though. For context, I own Neumann kh120s.
