Leaving Audient outta the interface conversation is WILD. Especially considering they make an interface for $399 that offers balanced inserts to use outboard gear and it runs dual cirrus logic A/D and D/A. Not to mention the preamps on each of their interfaces are the EXACT same ones as in the Heritage consoles. They even did a shootout of each unit compared to the consoles. The exact same. Not like how other audio companies lie about.

Thanks so much for these videos! This channel has helped me so much along these past 4 years when it comes to producing and editing my own vocals. I always listened to the living weirdo covers since 2013. I currently am working on something really special to be released in October! A debut EP and it would not be possible without his vocal chains and mastering chains. A true Godsend

Everyone on the show has great chemistry, and it works great for us as the audience! Also, I am a Best Buy appliance and TV repair tech. My official first setup (I was making music before, but with other people's equipment, borrowed homestudios, radio studios I worked in, etc): M-Audio Fast track Pro + Behringer C4 Mic + Dual Core PC with 4GB RAM and ofc, the Fruity (Eyepatch and peg leg edition LOL). Plus a Novation Nocturne 25 Keyboard and some cheapo PC Speakers, not even monitors, and my (still used to this day) Senheiser HD201 headphones.

Interface: RME Babyface Pro FS. Im hearing things I haven't heard in records I've been listening to for years! Such good quality and pres are good enough to use if I didn't already have outboard ones (cheaper but also great option: Audient ID14 Microphone: Nuemann TLM 102 (My fav before I upgraded to the Manley Ref C). Detailed, well balanced. Pre: WA TB12. So much versatility and different flavors. API style touch. Brings mics to life with a big sound. Vintage, clean, in between, you name it. Compressor: BLA 1176. I track my rap vocals with this beast. Punchy, aggressive, consistent vox. Just watch the input knob so you dont squash too much (unless you want to)

Recording lead vocals and bgv's on different mics is a good idea. Doja Cat's engineer has done this before. I only have one mic so I'll be switching from a vintage tube micpre for leads to a vintage solid state micpre for bgv's. Reflection filters are a waste of space and make me anxious since I can't see the screen.

Mic Screens are great, imo. You just have to adjust the Width. The closer the Screen is to the Mic, the less Reflections you'll record. You basically just record the direct Signal and not the Reflections from the Walls, if you adjust them correct. Actually a pretty cheap Way to record in an untreated Environment.
