"Do you believe in magic~" eugh, i'm running out of puns, and song references for this week long lore lesson.

The problem with the fourth law, is that the Night Elves spent 5,000 years using arcane magic and didn't attract the Legion until Azshara commissioned a project that tapped directly into the twisting nether. After that, the High Elves used magic for a nother 10,000 without any problems, simply by binding their power source to the Sun. Even Humanity, once taught took nearly 700 years to encounter their first watchful impatient demon upon which they immediately formed a council of mage hunters to deal with all demon incursions. Why the High elves didn't share their shielding technique with Dalaran I haven't the faintest idea, but whatever. Law 2, Magic is corrupting. Possibly, I find it to be a misnomer though. Druids priests shaman and Paladin supposedly don't get corrupted, nor do the blue dragons; ...except that theyre all arrogent as fuck and preachy snobs to boot. I'd argue that this isn't an effect of arcane magic, or even magic in general, but what happens to the Human (or mortal) mind when given power. Think about it. Would you not be prideful and think yourself superior if you were taught how to make the fundamental forces of reality do your bidding? If you could make food out of air with a word, cause a nuclear explosion by drawing in the dirt, fling plasma with a thought, command spirits of living earth air fire and water with a word? Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Law 3, Is air or water addicting? When you run thin on either don't you always want more? Get haggard and weak when its denied you? Die when you can't get it? Take it in greedily and splurge after having been denied for a time? Granted this argument doesn't work with Human mages, but Elves and Dragons have been channeling arcane magic since they were conceived. Dragons and elves are both noted on multiple occasions for building their homes on ley lines and Dalaran, silvermoon, the Coldara, Wyrmrest temple and the Caverns of time are all built atop ley nexus.

technically druids are corrupted by nature magic, most druids that shapeshift into a particular type of being even when not shifted maintain characteristics of it, that is nature corruption priests and paladins can have something similar, we have a completely race that is corrupted by light (lightforged draenei) and Xe'ra tried to do that to Illidan The elements too, remember what the power of ragnaros has done to dwarves and druids of the flame

Frankly arcane magic sounds like the most... clasically "magical" so far. It's very varied, does things like transforming and twisting forces of reality like time and space, and has very utilitary applications (like weapon enchanting), while other types of magic seem to have a much narrower focus. Is it possibly because mages approach magic with a more "scientific" method?

+ThatOneBoss i think the only explanation behind the scientific nature of arcane magic is the fact that it has no godess at all, none to worship and nothing wich you can drain power from. priest, shamans, druids and monk get their power from a divine source, while warlocks corrupt their very bodies and souls with fel energies in order to gain power. Arcanist are different, they study the arcane energies around them, and understand how they order the world; with their mana and/or intellect they can change them giving birth to the most different uses of the arcane magic. this kind of magic is focused on shifting time and space and i found it much more noble and usefull then the fel wich is all about destruction, and also compared with divine magic wich is annoyingly bound to is source. Yes i love the smell of the pyroblast in the morning ;)

Because all other schools of magic such as fire/ice are still arcane in origin. Cannot make fire or ice magic without knowing the fundamentals of arcane. (unless you're shamanistic and borrow powers from elementals)

Arcane magic is the most powerful test of magic

Arcane magic is a form of life magic: 1) Magic was stated to be tied to the fabric of being, so much so that unleashing it is unleashing one's very own life force (which is what life magic uses). This is supported by the fact that by draining the magic of a spellcaster, the felbeasts also devoured their life force per TWoTA novel. 2) Mana (the Hawaain term for life force) is defined as spiritual energy in Diablo and according to Dave Kosak "Spirit" is the life force shamans manipulate. Mana is also defined as the power of the elemental forces of nature embodied in an object or person. 3) The Well of Eternity, which was the source of all arcane magic on Azeroth, was to empower all life.

Evocation is typical battlemagic.

According to wikepedia... Evocation is the act of calling upon or summoning a spirit, demon, god or othersupernatural agent, in the Western mystery tradition. Comparable practices exist in manyreligions and magical traditions and may employ the use of pharmakeia with and without uttered word formulas.

You said Draenei are the first to know it (with our current data ). However, what about Ethereals? I think k'aresh was engulfed by the void somewhat 37.5 thousand years ago, also that they are immortal. If one of them had been studying and mastering all corners of arcane for all those years, then came to Azeroth, wouldnt they practically be among the strongest mages on Azeroth? I know this is an old vid but id love your feedback. Love your lore vids.

I never knew about the Draenei Mages and how long they have studied the Arcane for. That is very interesting.

A bit late on the question, but would gravity-based spells (sort of time-space), e.g. black hole, belong to Arcane school of magic? Or is it more Fel based or even Void? Thanks.

Verratich Nicht Yeah it is Azshara most likely currently on Azeroth.

Evocation is typically put towards destructive magic more often, likely due to that focusing mind stuff and gathering energy in bursts, as it allows for quick casting of flamin' firebolts and icelances. Divination can also be used to look into the Future or the Past, Medivh is a famous practitioner(as stated by the ingame Dalaran Divination book). I think Necromancy and Necromancers should be the next WoW class as its very unique and brings alot to the table; (and NO Deathknights are not even close, there pretty much Warriors w/ SOME necromancy abilities.) Lorewise it would work like Warlocks; despite what Warlocks of the past have done, the 2 factions would recognize the power and potential and seize it . Guldan cursed the Orcs, Orc Warlocks were the bane of Humans during the first 2 wars; yet both factions allow there continual existence. Still surprised we havent seen alot of Blood Elves trying Necromancy out as alternate magic power.

Zulatobari Greatforge deathknights are runecasters and warriors whit some necromancy knowege so i agree whit you that necromancers are gonna be a good idea for a class

Deathknights are not really runecasters, not in the Warcraft RPG sense. Nor how it is shown ingame w/ the Vrykul. DK's are mostly just Warriors, with Death Magic. Not really Necromancy, just powerful undead champions imbued with great power. As for the DK Rune stuff, that is the Lich Kings perversion of traditional runes. It was explained somewhere but I dont remember.

Necromancy.. wouldn't that essentially be DK's? Like unholy is pretty much the embodiment of Necromancy, raising undead for your own agenda and using diseases to hinder enemies. I guess it's a kind of magic, even though DK's are melee, but they're not accepted among either the alliance or the horde, but are more of a necessary evil, right? because the power is just too powerful to turn away. Can't beat 'em join 'em amiright? :p big fan btw.

im a fan of shamanism because of the pact and negotiation. arcane is nice because its all up to you not to get sucked in, but fel whispers to you, druid's nature powers are discriminating to undead and the unwillingly tainted, and the light just takes blind followers;and drops them for hint of reasonable doubt.

+VirulentPumpkin Enchantment is the correct one. Enhancement is a Talent spec for Shamans.

Arcane magic may seem like a minor topic, but the entire burning legion invasion happened because of it and in away a lot of stuff right now is happening due to arcane magic.

So... is the summoned food actually nutritious?

The elemental is a mix of conjuration and enchantment, you create the element and then you enchant it

So, I have a question about Arcane magic attracting the Burning Legion. If there is a world that practices Shamanism, Druidsm, and the Light but not Arcane, then would the Burning Legion struggle to find that world? Edit: I ask because I want to write a Warcraft fanfiction, and I give that world around 320 years to prepare for the Demons.

So Necromancy and Fel are corrupted Arcane magics?

You totally mentioned Chronomancy before you begun the listing, and then didn't mention it in the list. why? And is this picked from any canon lore, or is it magic as described in the wowrpg? I mean, since these are the classical Dungeons and Dragons schools of magic.

Abdulrahman Al Roumi Imagine a grenade exploding, you are not touched by the fire explosion because you're too far away but you are near enough to be knocked down by the power of the blast. I imagine arcane magic like that, shockwaves, blast, pulsations ect.. But I might be wrong, that's just my interpretation.

How does one mage turn Arcane magic into Fire magic or Frost magic then? Is it bound to the School Conjuring?

Pretend coldness is a(void) of heat. Use the arcane to make "heat energies" spread/lash out and voila, a "cold" void that absorbs heat/life.

Doronsmovies Technically the warlock can self heal, and so the death knight. But there's no explanation on what school they are using or if it's only a mechanics thing and not a lore thing.

lloydgush Chronomancy in wow is a completely different school from Conjuration and Transmutation, really few arcane magics can be used to heal, Chronomancy is one of those few.

For new people in the video: Contrary to popular thought, Arcane magic is not unstable. The idea comes from a line from the Sisterhood of Elune: The Sisterhood of Elune thought Arcane magic to be "chaotic" because of what the Shen'dralar and the Highborne did with it and how it ruined them all, historically. Arcane magic took their land, their queen, their minds and much more... This is where the notion that Arcane magic was "chaotic" came from. Moreover, the idea that arcane magic, or magic in general, was considered "chaotic" is because of the propagation of the Sisterhood of Elune's ideals through the four laws: Magic is powerful. Magic is corrupting. Magic is an addiction. Magic attracts the Twisting Nether like flies to honey. I mean, the titans literally bleed arcane, and all the elves (even kaldorei) depend on it, after all they are born from the blood of Azeroth, the night elves despite prohibiting the arcane(the sentence is death) they use water from the Well of Eternity, their moonwells are to some extent arcane (also water from the Well of Eternity), after all the Quel'dorei can supply themselves with moonwells, also the night elves had no problem using arcane to disrupt the Sin'dorei arcane sanctums in TBC (which could kill all the Sin'dorei and Quel'dorei in the northern Eastern Kingdoms). They are maxims repeated to those who seek out magic. "Magic is powerful", yes. "Magic can be corrupting" (not every mage is evil, look at Khadgar- I would put Jaina here, but we know she no longer fits the "uncorrupted" title). "Magic is an addiction"- it can be, but it's more like a necessary nutrient for all elves, they just die without it. And finally, "Magic attracts the twisting nether"- At this point everyone should know that no, Sargeras only used arcane energy as a civilization base to know who to recruit/conquer, in general the twisting nether don't give a shit, they are only 100% chaotic creatures that without Sargeras they were fighting amongst themselves.

I have a question. Can arcane magic heal? Could you use arcane magic to call upon energy to heal. I don't think it's that far fetched.

***** I think it could be possibly by using the school where you could revert time for a bit, so you can revert the time prior to the wound. Same way Kairoz reverted time when Garrosh stabbed him, to the time before he stabbed him.

Mages can protect themeselves with abjuration, cauterize with fire and turn back time to the point they werent injuried, and isnt clear if they can for example trasform a injuried hand in a sane one, but they cant realy heal like a priest that remarginates injuries. Oh, and they certanly never run out of ice to put on some bad bruise

Andrew Watkins With the arcane in world of warcraft you can call upon any magical power that exists, of course, depending on methods and context, not to mention the knowledge of your character; all this to say that you could heed holy magic for either damaging or healing spells, but just as one conjures elemental forces from the different elemental planes, I think of it so that you need a source where to siphon and redirect said holy magic.

I did this test on here for what power you have And it said I have Arcane magic I think the rest was lying But I'm not sure

Is summoning demons from the Twisting Nether a sort of Conjuration ?

+SWBGTOC Arcane magic used to summon demons is technically demonic magic since the term demonic magic means, "magic of, from, or relating to, demons". According to Loreology (Blizzard's crackheaded Lore Historian), demons aren't the source of fel/demonic magic (which is dumb if you'd ask me) and so arcane magic doesn't have to come from demons in order to be considered "demonic". If arcane magic is (or can be) used to summon demons (the War of the Ancients ring a bell?) then arcane magic can relate to demons and thus be considered demonic. If arcane magic can't be considered demonic, perhaps the War of the Ancients is non-canon? Ask that question to Blizzard's dumb employees.

I have a question regarding if you though Night Elf Mages being a lore problem, ive seen a lot of good argument and good evidence that Night Elf Mages are not mockery of lore as seen in this thread : eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/7338914181 I think the 10th comment really explains a lot but i wanted to know your opinion.

You said "So the arcane magic is the most powerful magic in the world of Azeroth and Draenor." Aah, I see, so that explains why an ilvl 640 arcane mage can get 40k DPS by pressing 2 buttons.

*_A LOT_* of this lore is Old Lore and outdated in terms of how Arcane Magic, as well as Magic in general, works. Necromancy in the modern lore for example isn't a "Branch" of Arcane Magic, it's an entirely different school of Magic itself and is the counterbalance of Life.

Didn't stutter, it's the noise gate plugin I use, looks like the numbers I used weren't right as it depends a lot on how far you are away from the microphone, so if you are to far it cuts of the sound.

+Danny Payne Yes, Dark Trolls that found the Well of Eternity transformed into Night Elves. Similarly how a group of Murlocs got too close to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms in Pandaria, and were transformed into what are known as the Jinyu.

Necromancy was called an arcane art, which means that the arcane art is what necromancy is. Technically, mages are necromancers.

+Life Tapper No..it's an Arcane school but it dose not make you a necromancer for being just a simple..say illusion mage. Using Necromancy makes you a Necromancer however.
