I purchased the Beta AR with storm hood, and returned it and got the drop hood instead. I found the front of the Storm Hood somewhat uncomfortable to my face when the hood was down. The Drop Hood's collar feels snug and much more comfortable when the hood is down. This is personal preference and will differ to other people. All in all, best hard-shell purchase I have ever made. I have had some good Patagonia jackets, but nothing has fitted me as good as my Beta AR. I will soon make the move to the Beta AR pants!

Your Arcteryx videos are exactly what I needed to decide between their many options for a good waterproof jacket to get to replace my Alpha AR that started 'delaminating.' Arc'teryx is giving me a credit to replace it - since I usually only wear it to walk around the city, I think I'm going with a Beta AR. THANK YOU!

So if I'm a small in all their sizing and wanted a fitted look would i go XS on the beta AR

Hi Chris, thanks for your videos, they are awesome anda have helped my wife and me to buy precisely what we need :) I have a question, we just got the Atom AR (medium for me) and I’m thinking to pair it with the Beta jacket, but I am a lil worried if I’d be able to fit it over the Atom, since it’s “fitted”. Do you think it could work?

I think that it would be ok. I have a beta FL and a Zeta SL that fit over my Atom AR just fine. I have not tried the beta jacket, but if it's like the LT you should be just fine.

Great video. Very informative. I have an alpha SV of my own and I love it. I would suggest getting a better quality microphone; would be the cherry on top👍👍

I have a good mic, a nice shotgun mic. It's about 5-6 feet away from me just off of the screen to my front right. I've hung some blankets up to deaden the sound a bit. I can't use a clip on mic, as it would make a lot of noise under the jackets as I move around, or put on and take off the jackets. I'm trying, I'll see what I can improve. Thanks for your input.

maybe wear a hat and put the clip on mic on the hat? i know its hard bc the hard shells are so crinkly @@meandmyjackets

Beta SV is my favorite. I have the SV, AR and SL. SV is a 80d beast.

You wear a thorium ar in Xl under an alpha sv in xl , is that right ? I have a thorium hoody in M ( it is the new thorium ar I think) and need a hardshell over it so i would buy a alpha sv in the same size ??

Yes, the medium in the alpha SV will fit over your medium thorium with no problem.

If your using it for climbing, then the Alpha. For any other use I think the Beta will be great. I own the alpha SV, but usually wear the Beta LT and FL more often. The high chest pockets in the Alpha make it better for climbing, the Beta's have normal side pockets that are more practical for everyday use.

Thoughts on the new beta lightweights features?

All of the betas are great, very versatile pieces. They just each have a slight difference in the features, such as the size of the hood, or pit-zips, etc. It's just a matter of which one suits your needs the best.

Would you ever sell your purple Beta Fl or burnt orange zeta Sl? If so I’d love to buy 😂😅

There are currently two beta AR's available here in the US. The two are only different due to the hoods. The Beta SV is not available now, only the Alpha SV.

do you think the cerium lt and the alpha sv are a good combo? Do you think it can take -15 degrees celsius?

I would say that the Alpha SV, at least for me, will be a bit big over the Cerium or Atom LT. You can wear it, but the Alpha SV is cut big (A regular fit) for severe conditions where you will most likely will be wearing heavier layers. I wear mine mostly with a Thorium, or my older Cerium SV. Two bigger, bulkier jackets, and they fit great under the Alpha SV. I also think that I personally would want something heavier in that cold weather. Remember that the Alpha will block rain, wind, snow, etc, but it won't keep you warm, that's the job for your insulation layer. It all depends on your activity as well, higher output activities will build up more heat, and the shell will help to hold more of that heat in. And lighter insulation layers may be perfect. The Alpha is a beast of a shell, but for lighter layers such as the cerium Lt, atom LT, or the Proton LT, I like the trimmer fitting hardshells like the Beta LT. Even though it is a lighter 40D material, it is just as waterproof, windproof as the Alpha. The Alpha is just more durable with it's 100D material. You may even be able to down size the Alpha to fit over the lighter weight insulated jackets. @@Mindofkavi

Sorry, I have not tried the macai jackets. They're on my radar. I hope to review those in the near future. They are designed as ski, snowboarding jackets. I'm sure that they are really nice. @@Mindofkavi

Most would be better served with a Sawyer, or a soft shell type jacker. Way quieter and just as water proof for dog walks lol.

Arc’teryx sure has updated their line. So many Beta variations. No more Zeta or Theta. Do you think the Beta AR storm hood replaced the Beta SV?

I'm hoping to review the Beta series jackets soon. They have updated the line over the last season or so. The Beta's are all heavier now, and I would say that the Beta jacket with it's 3L 80d fabric is close to the older SV.
