Hi Cris. I like these videos when you put and put another jacket. Like a veteran of your channel you forget your Rush IS and Proton FL with the octaloft, maybe the Kyanite too. I bought recently a Atom LT no hood and a Nuclei vest. This year with no fall, the winter clothes are in the wardrobe, my combination are shorts and T-shirt. Good luck with the web from the Southeast of Spain.

Thanks for your informative videos. Wondering why you layer the Atom with either the Gamma MX or Sawyer rather than your Beta LT given both the Gamma and Sawyer are only water resistant and not waterproof like the Beta. Understand the Gamma and Sawyer are 40 and 60% heavier, respectively, so you are favoring warmth over waterproofing. I also understand the idea of the wearing the Beta stand alone in the summer for rain. Reason I’m asking is because I have an Atom and Atom Heavyweight and was thinking I would add one of the Beta waterproof shells over them for temps 32-to mid 40s F. I live in Chicago where winter temps range from below zero to low 40s. I have a Fision SV (discontinued) to cover the below freezing temps, however, Chicago weather has become much milder over the years. Mostly temps are between 30-40 where the Fision is overkill. I do like the idea of layering the Sawyer for warmth but what about the rain? Is the fabric with DWR able to handle it well enough? I’m not hiking, just city use. Appreciate your advice. If I can stay relatively dry with the Sawyer I’d prefer the extra warmth. Can’t have both at the moment.

Hi, Thanks for your questions. I'm familiar with Chicago's weather, we have family in Algonquin, and my son went to Carthage College in Kenosha WI. 🙂 I would say that the Gamma MX is a bit more waterproof than the GoreTex Infinity of the Sawyer. But, honestly I don't wear them if it's really raining, and I am only using these pieces around town, or everyday use. You're right about the extra warmth, they are both great softshells over other insulated jackets. I do have a nice video comparing the Gamma MX to the Sawyer.... Both the gamma MX and Sawyer will fit just fine over the Atom LT and Atom Heavyweight(AR). If you need a jacket for rain, you can't beat the GoreTex hardshells like the Beta's. Since you have the Fision for really cold weather, the Atom Heavyweight is still pretty warm, and the Beta may be a good choice to put over it for the rain. The Sawyer is a great jacket for the wind, but not so good with rain. It just has a DWR coating, even with that, from what I've experienced, the rain will soak in within a shorter time then with the Gamma MX.

Would you be able to throw in some temperatures once in a while when describing jackets? People refer to “cold” like it’s universal but couldn’t be further from the truth. dont need to be too technical but if could mention around 50F or 20F that would really help us understand what you mean. Thanks!

Environment/humidity/location all have huge impacts on temperature too, even then it can still vary between individuals in the same environment so a temperature alone will still be very subjective.

Arc'teryx has had a naming system that makes sense after you learn about it, but now they are changing all that a bit. Now you need to know the new name, and what it was before.
