In a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Dr. Peterson talked a bit about the impetus behind the formation of ARC, and our necessary courage as well as faith in ourselves to be able to handle anything which comes our way. "Bring it on," he said. "We can handle it." Looking back at all that mankind has accomplished, he's not wrong.

Brilliant. I'm a massive Dr Jordan Peterson fan and he's even inspiring me to compose music, as well as having a bit of fun generating some "fan art" featuring this great Canadian psychologist, author and public intellectual. John Anderson comes across so well, an articulate, intelligent man who talks common sense, how Aussies always used to be. Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a woman of great courage and many have followed her for a long time now. Os Guinness has impressed me on Dr Peterson's Exodus Bible study series. Loved Ayaan's comment about the cut flower at the end. I despair at our future when I see the numbers coming out to support Hamas and spouting vile anti-Semitism. A recent survey indicated that 81% of British Muslims say they feel Muslim first and British second. In France, however, with its over 8% Muslim population, only 46% say they feel Muslim first and French second. I personally like the way the French system bans the wearing of burkas, hijabs etc. Here in the UK, one local council was recently wasting tax payer's money on a statue which celebrates the wearing of the hijab. I can imagine about how the non-Muslims in that area might feel about this statue, and I daresay there are some Muslim women who are not all that happy about having to cover up all the time. People forget that if you cover up for religious reasons, you will not be able to get enough Vitamin D3 in your system from exposure to sunlight. Britain is not a sunny place for much of the year and one top oncologist has stated that he thinks most of Britain's chronic health problems have their origins in Vitamin D3 deficiency. I take it in high strength doses myself and recommend this to all British people.

Western Political Philosophies Summarised Left Wing Progressive - Maximize freedom & equality by abolishing traditional/religious taboos. Right Wing Conservative - Maximize freedom & equality by preserving individual rights. Libertarian - Maximize freedom & equality by severely limiting government. Communist - Maximize freedom & equality by abolishing private property. Socialist - Maximize freedom & equality by redistributing wealth. Nationalist - Maximize freedom & equality by prioritizing national/ethnic/racial interests to the exclusion of others. Anarchist - Maximize freedom & equality by abolishing government. Transhumanist - Maximize freedom & equality by using technology to re-engineer humanity. Ultimately, how different are these philosophies? They all believe in the same ends but propose differing means to those ends. Western political debate never transcends this very limited discourse revolving around how to maximize freedom and equality. True alternatives are never in the equation.

Wonderful opening comment/observations by John Anderson. For those who are “Babylon 5” fans, the two superior races to Man each ask a Philosophical question in dealing with Man: What do you Want. Who are You. This is of course the crux of the meaning of life, and is most readily answered through Religion. Christianity answers: I am made in the Image and Likeness of God and am His Child - that is Who I am, and as like Him, I was created to love God, be Holy as my father is, and to be with Him in Heaven- forever. That is What I want. Both these concepts or Truths are Noble and worthwhile. Both these concepts or Truths were the basis of Western Civilization, and both concepts or Truths are now being undermined or denied.

Nothing can sway me and those who understand to abandon the principals of 'Magna-Carta', no matter the weight of compassion to the contrary argument. The very freedom discussed here is the freedom for all that my ancestors died for, died for their fellow man, for the guy next to you in the trench.

Great discussion. A discussion that needs to be taken to every nook and cranny of the democratic world. Lots of important points pointed out by each member. My main takeaway was that I should be seen as a Christian not because of my faith, but because of my behaviour. Another is that we should not compare faith, but how each faith contributes to the whole world and society to make it better.

The most compelling question in every human's life is "why was I born?" The culture that answers that with the greatest depth and clarity is the only version worth valuing. Nature can't do eternal life. Not for planets, stars, galaxies or universes so it's a pretty big question. A better after death experience is a gossamer thin and counter-productive response. Nature has produced an intelligent, imaginative and creative entity that is also drawn to courage, resilience, self-improvement and sociability. Hence putting in the effort behind leaving a mark, joining the shoulders of giants, is what needs to become the purpose of every emerging mind. Not the under-achievement, substance abuse and criminality all societies to date seem unable to avoid.

@@anthonyaubreyadolphus6753 Cheers. Humans already have both Democracy and Adam Smith's unregulated market 'capitalism' and they continue to refuse to adopt these systems in full. In principle these two are the same thing: one for trading influence (rendered as policy), the other for distributing wealth. OTOH Safety (in a hostile universe, on a planet not designed with us in mind) weighs heavily on our thinking. But all we can be is the most powerful version of ourselves in a permanent state of competition with reality. Guarded cooperation is our secret weapon. ps: Ditto Science and Art.

The most dreadful thing happening associated with "individualism" in my experience is how the church is being wielded to make it selfish and even unChristian, which it most certainly isn't. But try convincing some congregations, some pastors, of that. People today are the fruit of that failure of education to teach kids the substrates of civilized thought. Also, "human nature does not change" is ABSOLUTELY central to the conservative position. It's why Christianity so comports with conservatism in politics. It's the Christian position. That said, it's been astonishing to me to see how many liberal writers of scripts for movies and TV somehow know this is the right perspective - the film Serenity comes to mind, actors like Viggo Mortensen playing Aragorn but not believing the principles delivered with such conviction - yet don't see what they're saying while telling stories we relate to precisely because this rings true. Also, Anderson pointing out the problem/question for the secularist "How do you actually find a genuine basis for the respect on an equal basis for all citizens even when you disagree with them" - this is how we know we're in a state primed for Hamas-style barbarism: we're seeing progressives in the streets who would boldly and immediately say "you don't." They don't want equal rights. It IS a civilization moment.

Wonderful discussion. Many responses I could make but just this one. John Anderson's point about making government god (approx min 35) is precisely what the EU has done by adopting Beethoven's Ode to joy from his 9th Symphony as its anthem. In Schiller's words and Beethoven's music mankind is united under God. In the EU the brotherhood of mankind is united under the European Commission, a wholly unelected body that has sole power in the EU to initiate legislation.

So true, we Westerners have grown up with the bible truths, the Christianised bits anyway, and believing or not believing that an actual physical God exists becomes irrelevant - it's those truths that are important!

Not that we should not accept those human-concocted aspects that propose a tolerant approach to our fellow travelers, but demanding concomitant belief in the supernaturalist "trimmings" has caused enormous strife throughout history. Demanding faith in the absence of evidence is the first step in an inculcated disconnect between facts and logic.

I think the problems we experience as human beings are not due to a belief in a higher power/ Creator but the simple fact that we are all flawed and inherently selfish people

Religion provides a foundation of values, purpose and community in a way that government never could. And regardless of faith or beliefs, those 3 things are needed for everyone to grow up in a healthy way. Well, except for any fundamentalism, which tends to prey on those that don't have those 3 things.

Religion helped build western civilisation in the first place. Sure, by the 17th century came the enlightment, where reason took over from religious power. But religion still plays a role in giving people a stable cutlure to live by.

@@brain1fluff Religion is just another institution and ultimately a political one with rituals. The values didn't come from the religion they came from the culture.

Scintillatingly wise discussion because the panelists were either Christian or quasi-Christian, and therefore wise, or nearly wise. The essence of what they are saying is that it matters what you think of God. And that is where it falls short of being a truly wise discussion. Because the most important question of all is, 'What does God think of you?'

you know that is how the current culture function right? that's why there's "trigger warning" "safe spaces" "banning speech" and so on, because presumably the one who says something we don't like is causing distress and who ever don't let us to do whatever we want is causing pain your view is not fundamentally and utterly wrong, but lacks in many things, it's not like old religious cultures were numb or had no regard for pain and distress, but those are not fundamental roots of Laws and values
