=============================================================
This is the second part of the Simulator preparation video series.
In this video, you have the possibility to learn how to fly a DME Arc procedure on a Boeing 737.
The Arc Dme is based on BEG vor, it is a left arc at 15nm from the Distance Measuring Equipment.
We are going to start a few nautical miles before ELBOD point and then we are going to turn to the right to join the DME arc.
You are DME arc established as long as you stay within + or - 0.5 nm, so if the Arc Dme is at 15nm you are in the arc from 14.5 to 15.5.
In order to fly an ARC dme your QDM should indicate that the vor is located 90 degrees to the left.
Make sure you check the QDR also because it tells you in which radial you are at that specific moment.
After the ARC we are going to execute a Raw Data ILS with 25 knots of crosswind, and limited Visibility.
When flying a raw data ILS it is important to make small corrections when they are required.
So, if your Localizer is slight to the left, for example, you want to turn to the left using a maximum of 5 degrees of bank angle.
Don't overbank otherwise, you will overcontrol the Aircraft.
The same applies to the Glide Slope, if you are slightly above or below the glideslope reduce or increase your rate of descend gently.

    So while in DME arc you can think of it like this: You have to monitor 2 Dispays The PFD & MFD. Each display has 3 items to Maintain. *PFD (Speed, Attitude, Altitude). *MFD (QDM points at 90 degrees to centre of circle, QDR the tail is situational awareness to know your check radils, DME Distance to stay within 0.5 of the arc). Eye motion from left to right. Regarding the ROD calculation: divide the GS by 2, then add a Zero. 144÷2= 72 => 720 ft/min ROD Thx for the video!

    And I take it there is no way to have the approach plate with the red aircraft as it flies in plain view while one is doing this raw data approach .. it is so handy as you have that in the top LH corner . @@PILOTCLIMB and I've got a question: how do you check that you are on a correct runway track? Because on the approach centered ND display there is only heading. Isn't it easier to set app mode on ND but not centered and align magenta line with present track?

    Thanks for the 3 step videos. One question.. On VOR rose mode I can see you have the mag HDG at the top but that white line from the A/C upwards I can see its your track. How do you set that as Track as in my sim it goes straight to the HDG. (I hope this makes sense)

    Hi Gabriele! first of all many congrats for this useful video! I'm trying to prepare myself for the IR simulator training and your videos are very helpful!!! I have to ask your point of view: maybe is not the correct video, but: when you fly an holding pattern, in order to stay within the holding protected area, what value of WCA on the outbound course you would calculate/maintain ?

  • @PILOTCLIMB

    @PILOTCLIMB

    2 жыл бұрын

    You are very welcome!! There is a method where you apply (on the outbound sector) 3 times the WCA you had in order to fly over the holding fix..
