Arachne Interactions | Hades 2 Technical Testing

Ойындар

DISCLAIMER: I arranged these interactions in a way I thought would flow best. In other words, these are not the exact order of interactions when encountering Arachne. Reason being, after Arachne's spiral, she began talking about the monsters, which I thought was not appropriate after upsetting her, so I began organizing the quotes as coherent as possible to fit the current narrative.
These were all the unique dialogues I've encountered as of 4/26/24. The voice line regarding Charon appeared recently after a brief update, and I expect more voice lines to be missed as the game continues. Support Supergiant Games! smiles*

Yeah in her story she was transformed because Athena was a sore loser, arachne won fair and square and she couldn’t take it so she turned her into a spider and with that her only wish was to continue making silk and that where spiders came from, Zeus may get a lot of crap but Athena is just as bad, hell it worst for Medusa if you learn her story

@@mrfirestar9604 I grew up with believing Arachne was a sore loser, but there are so many interpretations: 1) Arachne was boastful of her superiority 2) Athena was humiliated 3) Arachne felt suicidal from the pressure, thus Athena turned her into a spider to save her. Whichever is the "real" interpretation loses its meaning imo, because stories like these go through the greatest telephone game. There's definitely something you could take away out of each of these, and whichever resonates with you more. I prefer gods embracing their fallibility, so I prefer the second interpretation.

You know, yeah, thinking about it, that could be a way to get Medusa into the Hades mythos. There's like 5 different Medusas I've seen through myth, the Greek one, the Smite one, the Dota 2 one, the Disney Hercules one (I believe I recall in one of those he encountered her), plus the Percy Jackson one from Lightning Thief, and they're all wildly all over the place; Dota 2 Medusa is basically an anti hero who chose to become a gorgon to save her sisters cause they were taken by bandits who left her for dead because she was mortal, so she gave up mortality and her beautiful looks to go and sabe them. I do personally like that Medusa.

A notable example is Arachne from Rick Riordan’s “Heroes Of Olympus” series. To give some useful context in the myth of Arachne - Ovid, who wrote the Metamorphoses, really liked painting the gods as irrational, flawed and jealous of humanity, punishing humans by stripping them of their skill and their identtiy (probably because he was grumpy about being exiled by Augustus, and was projecting like crazy. For example; Medusa, Arachne, Io, etc) All the myths he used already existed, but he re-wrote them to be more unfair- which is why, in the most common version of the myth, Athena spontaneously displays the shockingly out-of-character trait of ENVY, rather than destroying Arachne's work due to her lack of respect (in the original myths Arachne claimed herself to be a better weaver than Athena herself and that she would win a weaving competition against her, a classic Greek Hubris Tragedy where the hero thinks too highly of themselves and is reminded, painfully, that they are NOT gods, but Ovid's version doesn't make sense for the rest of the pantheon's canon). Besides, Arachne's trapestry displayed *fifteen* separate occassions where Zeus and/or Poseidon dropped everything to bang women, more than half the time shaped as an animal while they did it (believe it or not there are even modern painting portraying the exact same thing Dx), imagine Athena's face when she saw a visual display of her dad and uncle banging everything that moves. (Plus, she never showed interest in sex in the myths). While she admites she admires Arachne's skill and execution, she is upset by the disrespectful choice and honest to god (haha) wacks Arachne on the head with her weaving shuttle 🤣Arachne feels devastated by the critique like any artist and considers taking her life, (in some version she even does take her life) and Athena saves her life by transforming her into a spider. Of course, Arachne may or may not have ben okay with that haha

This was an interesting read thank you very much.! It's not in this video because for whatever reason, new Arachne dialogue was found (Probably an in-game update). But in Supergiant's version, Arachne provides more detail about the competition, claiming that Athena's final product did not even come close. Arachne's curse in exchange for Athena's humiliation. Based on how you describe Ovid's work, I would enjoy these interpretations more because I find gods being fallible as a more compelling insight to human nature. Very fascinating that Arachne's work was depicting the gods this way, quite the statement to how the gods could easily have their way with anyone. Art has always been powerful and used to make a statement. Arachne viewed as an artist that challenge the gods, or the status quo with her tapestries sounds like a modern interpretation if you ask me. Now I do agree, the gods purposefully punishing humanity may be a stretch.

@@Hamstir4 I see! it could be that Supergiant wants to make Hades II with a different look towards the pantheon (I could swear I've read somewhere about Melinoë not being a fan of her family either) in contrast to Zagreus being close to other deities and the gods being more complex and the myths having more than what they originally seemed. To the point of wanting to just mess up with the mortals' beliefs a little So maybe the gods are more flawed or even more evil leaning towards mortals, like Moros admits he and the Fates every now and then mess with mortals to spice up the prophecies even though he regrets it. I feel with Arachne's work it could be a mix of her being ahead of her time, and a mix of her making fun of the gods and shoving NSFW at Athena's face xD plus... women in Greece weren't exactly well respected, and that was represented in the myths as well but it was the norm ^^U so maybe you could say Arachne showing gods that way was like the portraying of what we will see today as... idk, a woman in the modern day saying she doesn't want to have children, and a bunch of people going *gasps*. Of course, that treatment was bad back in the day and it's bad today, just thinking in the possible context for ovid's train of thought. BTW, Athena's tapestry showed five different myths, four of them showing gods punishing fo people extreme hubris, with a central big one showing the origins of the city Athens. Maybe that's what Arachne meant XD

@@Hamstir4 I will be in denial too about Sisyphus, it is too banal. But people who hates gods a lot. My idea, zagreus has become a powerful god, god of life and blood and met gea. Fates for punishing Zeus and hades house make a prophesy about zagreus become ruler. So Zeus used some souls who own him for free titans, he just wanted to messing up a bit and killed zagreus by accident, nothing too permanent. But or course things went wrong, chronos ate zagreus and earn his power too, become too powerful for God's too, chronos imprisoned hades but not killing, because chronos doesn't want his curse, lucky he didn't know zagreus has same curse so he is stuck in hades too. Persephone lost her mind for losing of children again and imprisoned everyone enemies and allies, yes she is the pre boss. But zagreus isn't completely dead and he can use chronos power too. Melinoe can defend chrono because zagreus who never him let kill her, everytime you failed, zagreus would turn back the time, because his love for mel can across time and space

@@Sifya You mean Persephone being the pre-boss similar to Cerberus? That's crazy cool. She was stated to be well capable of defending herself, so I would be hyped to see her capabilities. Zeus being afraid does seem to be in character and he was found out to be behind the dilemma in Hades 1. But I felt the game ended on an amicable note between the Olympians that I would be disappointed if Zeus was the one to sour the relationship again. However, it's very plausible its a familiar character that is to blame for this. I doubt Chronos could just free himself. The fight against Chronos and explaining the nature of the roguelite is interesting. I like your idea of Zagreus being the one to send you back on your last moments. I just wonder how the story could progress if always at a stalemate.

Right, I feel it would be up to Arachne at the end of the day. If we are following Hades 1, it was Time that helped resolve Sisyphus' conflict with Bouldy, and Arachne adjusted slightly better thanks to Time. There's a chance she may want to keep her spider form for her weaving talents but wants acknowledgements from the gods or some form of reparations.

Sure, I had an amigo requesting for Moros in the works some time. For Olympian gods, I was thinking of putting them altogether, because I'm hand selecting dialogues where they are contextualizing the story. So, it may be less dialogue than people would be expecting heh. For example, dialogues where Poseidon flexes his power over the sea or how cool his boons are, I'm not including that. I think I'll disappoint some people doing it this way, but I also feel it's a bit redundant otherwise. If that's alright with you, you can expect Hestia and Hephaestus within the same video! Unless you prefer them separate?

(Edit) Slight question regarding my below insinuation: Is Hades and Hades 2 based from Greek Myth or Roman Myth? *Is Relevant --- Wasn't it Arachne's vanity that caused her situation in the myth? That she was so vain that she challenged the gods into a weaving contest which Athena accepted, stating that the judges would be the gods themselves? As a handycap, Athena stated that she would weave stories of the mortals and Arachne would weave stories of the gods themselves, and that Arachne herself had chosen to create a piece depicting all of the lowest of low points (Poseidon's assaults, Zues's infidelity, Hera's blind fury, ect) and that Athena herself admitted that Arachne's weaving was so pure and wonderous that if she hadn't been so vain and chosen to insult the gods that she would have won? That she hung herself from the shame of defeat, only to be saved by Athena and given the chance to do the one thing she loved in her life for the rest of her life?

I’m not sure which it’s based off, but comments below have also pointed out your concern too ^ in that depending on the version, it may have been Arachne’s own doing rather than Athena not handling the humiliation well.

I'm pretty sure hades 1 borrowed from both and lampshaded between the two on a few occasions (Zagreus and Dionysus being the same person or not for example). If I were to guess (idk the answer if there is one) that they'd probably go with the idea that she challenged the gods and did the humiliation piece for the gods, and athena punished her for it? I'm also not finding a greek version of the myth, it looks like the hanging one is Ovid's according to the wiki page.

  • @Hamstir4

@@TeleportRush you’re right! They did kinda borrowed Zagreus’s other origin as a gag, it’s likely they’ll take other aspects of Arachne’s story to bring many nuances into conflict. And I’m seeing more Ovid’s too if we’re to look at Athena’s faults here.
