Haha like that.
I really love this scene, because Momoa's line: "Dad? That's your kid? Shame on you." It hits hard because you know how good of a relationship Aquaman has with his own father and how good of a single father he was. It's like seeing somebody you can't help because he's under the thumb of someone who brought him down an entirely wrong path. Aquaman can only really feel bad for the Black Manta because in just a short moment you can figure out a pretty good picture of how everything went wrong for him. But what Aquaman doesn't know is that Black Manta's own father raised him the exact same way, he's still very in the wrong for continuing the cycle, but it's more complicated this way. It's a real issue in our world that kids turn into the adults you nurture them to be, and not everybody is lucky enough to be raised right with a good moral compass.

He actually did show mercy. The son tried to kill him, he just got beaten, and Aquaman was going to walk away. The father comes in, REALLY tries to kill him, Aquaman hurts him pretty bad, but also doesn't kill him, and he tries to leave once again. Two instances of mercy.

“You ask the sea for mercy” is a great callback to the character of Black Manta’s first iteration origin story in the comics
When the torpedo landed on Manta's father's legs, trapping him, Aquaman JUST didn't help them, because they killed innocent people, therefore, they didn't deserve any mercy. A while later, Manta tells Orm that Aquaman killed his father. Aquaman JUST didn't help them.

@The Bengalee Sceptic in traditional heroic literature, which aquaman fits into, the key difference between a hero and a villain is having mercy. The hero is suppose to rise above common sensebilities such as yours and do what's right. Because without it there is only contempt and anger at each side and very little distinguishing who's good and who is bad. This scene is a classic example. The father may not have deserved to be saved, but by doing so, Arthur could have prevented the creation of another villain. By not saving him he created a new cycle of hatred which resulted in far more death and destruction.
