A guy who bought one of those for his house said 8300$. To calculate if it is worth the investment, you can source flood maps for your region, where the chances of certain floodhights are detailed. Or ask someone who lived there long enough to remember the last big floods. Or ask police station or firefighters. Off course the more expensive your house is, the more reasonable the investment.

Great idea, but extremely costly. However, a homeowner who invests in this technology should pay less in flooding insurance premiums and on top of that get a nice check from the insurance company for saving his/her own house from water damage.

The aquadam can show cracks after time has passed. If the rubber cracks, then your whole fantasy project has been for nothing. And we re not even talking about the sewer water you re gonna damage your pumps and the inside of the aquadam. So that would be a terrible idea that ll cost you a bunch of money.

But here in the Philippines it's useless coz the water level here when it storms is usually above the roofs.

here's the thing though, if this does catch on and see more widespread usage, how do they protect it from vandalism? Because you can be sure some random hooha will go running around poking holes into that thing.

Those old semi tubes were the best!

How are you going to fill it up with water if you don't have access to a Fire Hydrant? In some areas, floods happen in a matter of a few hours.

then why don't local govt put aqua dam around banks of the river?

I'd love to know how long it takes to fill with a garden hose when you have no fire hydrant with that much pressure... and what happens when the power goes out and you have to pump your well water by hand? LOL is there a trick to plan for that contingency? I'd hate to get one of these and have the power go out before it's full!!

Pretty cool, how much did it cost the homeowner to fill up that baffle for the demo? :) My question would be in a flood situation you may not be able to draw that much water from a hydrant. So I will assume you can pull water using a sump pump to fill up the barrier from the actual flood water itself? Time is the enemy here.

but the #1 most important question is....how HIGH are these dams, like how tall? a foot? 6 inches? 3 feet tall? etc -- this would only be good if you knew ahead of time exactly how high the water levels were going to get at your house, right? imagine spending tens of thousands of dollars to surround your house with these, only to see the flood waters get so high that they go right OVER the top of the AquaDam! that would really suck

@@DJMichaelAngelo Also, consider that when the water hits the dam, it will keep flowing down and around it... so it won't accumulate like it would it the dam wasn't there. So, it could potentially protect a house even if the rest of the area is flooded higher than the barrier is.

This sounds good... but if something was swept down river in the flood... like sharp wood with nails or pieces of cars, signs etc... This wouldn't get shredded or pop?

obviously not perfect, and some water would obviously seep under neither, but if you have a river rising a few feet, you would theoretically hold back 99% and pumps in your house should be able to handle the bit that gets by.

Note to self, don't build house in a 'lake.'
