April 22, 2011 St. Louis area tornadoes

Ғылым және технология

Convective Addiction chaser Jesse Risley and his chase partners track a supercell from near Jefferson City, MO to Glen Carbon, IL. The supercell produced several tornadoes in the St. Louis area. Watch as strong, embedded circulation pass over I-64 right after doing structural damage near New Melee, MO, then hits Pontoon Beach, IL as power flashes illuminate the nighttime sky. Finally, join the crew as they take a walk through Lambert-St. Louis International Airport in the aftermath of the tornado.

Excellent footage! I too was on that cell. I was in IL and waited in Collinsville, IL as it crossed into IL.

Great video. I live out in Wildwood (west St. Louis county) and there were some amazing storms in April and May of 2011. I forget which storm it was, but my house was buzzed by a funnel cloud and it felt like the whole house was shaking on its foundation. I actually have a few photos of it somewhere. We are WAY down low in a hole in our neighborhood, so that probably spared our house from most damage besides some siding and soffit damage which was relatively minor. Many homes lost their roofs (shingles mainly) and and a few chimneys, but nothing too serious, I'm not a professional weather spotter but as you all can see here, it's a dangerous job in eastern Missouri with all of the hills. It's really hard to see what might be ahead of you!

The same funnel that hit Lambert supposedly hit Granite City that night too. Especially around Hit n Run. That was a crazy evening.

I used to live in Kansas City, Missouri. Have you ever filmed "Spyder" Lightning? I've seen it streak across the sky during thunder storms while I was standing up that hill (can't remember the name of it) near Crown Center.
