    The same funnel that hit Lambert supposedly hit Granite City that night too. Especially around Hit n Run. That was a crazy evening.

    Great video. I live out in Wildwood (west St. Louis county) and there were some amazing storms in April and May of 2011. I forget which storm it was, but my house was buzzed by a funnel cloud and it felt like the whole house was shaking on its foundation. I actually have a few photos of it somewhere. We are WAY down low in a hole in our neighborhood, so that probably spared our house from most damage besides some siding and soffit damage which was relatively minor. Many homes lost their roofs (shingles mainly) and and a few chimneys, but nothing too serious, I'm not a professional weather spotter but as you all can see here, it's a dangerous job in eastern Missouri with all of the hills. It's really hard to see what might be ahead of you!

    I live in Mason City Iowa and remember this day vividly. Had I not been working, I would have been chasing it. Before I went to working the storm was forming in NE Kossuth County and I just knew it would be big. Still remember walking into the break room at work and saw KIMT showing the live eye in the sky from Albert Lea, very surreal.

    Very surreal watching the Twin Cities TV stations cover this as well. Even though Freeborn County is not in the Minneapolis TV market all the twincities stations were on this as well. I actually remember hearing the name of a small town in FAribault county and when I heard it I wanted to get sick real fast as I knew people I knew might be hit by the series of tornadoes that night(And they were)

    I lived through this, and I can say there was nothing epic or wow about it. The fact that anyone got any actual footage of this is to say they were extremely lucky. Had that track been half a mile to the north, my home, and several friends' homes would have vanished.

    This tornado was 1.75 miles wide and on the ground for nearly 150 miles. None of the tornadoes from the Superoutbreak on April 27, 2011 were not this wide or as long tracked However, some of the tornadoes from the Superoutbreak were more intense. Like Hackleburg/Phil Campbell EF5 tornado which was 1.25 miles wide and on the ground for 132 miles. I wonder if the Yazoo City tornado was capable of EF5 damage somewhere along its track.

    People say that tornadoes never happen in Montana. WRONG!!!! Strong tornadoes almost never happen here, but Montana does average a few weak tornadoes a year, but they don't usually last long and like I said they're usually weak (EF0's and EF1's). I have actually asked a couple of meteorologists here in Billings about this, both said we actually average about 5-6 tornadoes a year in Montana.

  • @godbacks09
    @godbacks099 жыл бұрын

    ...one more thing to add, most of the tornadoes in Montana happen in eastern Montana, usually east and northeast of Billings.

    Yeah,I live in Rochester MN which not too far down the interstate from where that happened I got to see the aftermath when we drove past on the I-90,on our way to Boyscout camp in SD, one week after There was destruction all over the countryside Houses and barns were piles of rubble and trees were snapped like toothpicks I wish I was able to help

    Okay, your story.... Best of luck, try Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas, Missouri maybe you will be able to see some fantastic supercells and actually be able to get close to the storm...Stay Safe!

    I too grew up in Montana and have lived in Kansas for the past 10 years, You are correct that anything with more than 5 lightening strikes is news....if you want to get excited move to the central plains, we don't even cancel weddings until we have a tornado on the ground, and it would have to be coming at us.... As to the reality of tornadoes, when one wipes your town off the map, you know reality and you know that a tornado has shown its' ugly head! 7 days ago we had tennis ball size hail....

  • @MTredneckchick
    @MTredneckchick12 жыл бұрын

    so for those of you dising, on this guy, learn what montana is about. we get hail and rain and thunderstorms, but we never ever get tornados, this is the 4th tornado i have ever heard about in MT, and i grew up here... on in billings last year, by by loma on the june 4th this year, and 2 on the 5th.. and if their is a tornado, it is heard about quickly

  • @MTredneckchick
    @MTredneckchick12 жыл бұрын

    we don't get tornado's that often so when we get one scratch that 3 in 2 days, that is a big deal to us up here in Montana, and to be able to see the proof instead of just hearing about it makes its all that much more real.

  • @80dizzle

    Sara, that couldn't be further from the truth. A "professional" storm chaser will forecast and position themselves in a location opportune for severe weather if they are truly dedicated to the hobby, which is what I did. Regarding the commentary, you hear very little from me. There were five other people standing proximal to me, and my commentary is limited to pointing out the tornado and such. I do hear someone giggling, but that's probably related to someone excited over structure.

  • @sarajones325
    @sarajones32512 жыл бұрын

    Glad to hear that Jesse is a good hearted person and helped where it was needed, you missed the point however, if you are "professional " storm chasers rather than weekend adrenaline junkies, you would not be in central Montana during this time of year, I think that we all know that Montana, Oregon etc. are not the best locations for supercells to develope, that said,I am aware that rotation and supercells can happen anywhere, last weekend there were 27 confirmed tornadoes within 25 miles of me.
