Maybe some spagnum moss/plastic around the trunk? Treat it like an air layer? Perhaps the elm just needed a little more moisture or time to push roots that high up? Everything is looking good! Spring! Thanks for the vids!!

Yea it’s sprung alright! I think I’ll try moss next time, maybe a little hormone as well? I’ve heard Elms can be challenging but it’s got to happen. Thanks

Your collection is looking awesome Joel. Glad everything did well over the winter. I’ve had success with the tourniquet technique. Maybe it’s species specific. Mine were a Eugenia and a ficus. Thanks, keep growing

Thanks Matt, everything did do well. I will try again & I think I’ll skip the wire next time. Just cut deep & maybe use sphagnum like a typical air layer & maybe some hormone.

Welcome back!!! That unknown pine looks like the same growth as my larches. Did the needles fall off in winter? I really don`t know but glad to see all the trees that are doing well. You have a lot of trees!! Looking forward to see more of your work.

Thanks Andy, it actually keeps it’s needles all year. I know exactly where it was collected so I’m going to get back there & get some pics. Always appreciate your comments!

Great to see you again! Nice update. The chinese elm is semi decidious. In my climate it sheds all its leafs cold winters, but keep them in mild winters. Even the coldest California winter is proboably milder than than the mildest swedish winter. Dont be uncertain about the species, I am sure it is chinese elm.

Hey my friend! I didn’t think it was possible for you to have a “mild” winter 😆. Thanks!

@@bonedrybonsai4109 its all about different perspective mate. This year was mild, just 3 weeks with constant below -10c. 😀👍

I think, maybe, that first pine you mentioned/question is a spruce. If you compare the needles and buds from it to the sitka later in the vid. Pines have a fasicle at the base of the needle. Those needles look directly attached to the branches, and appear as singles, look like maybe spruce needles?

I’ve got to get back to the office complex where I collected it & get some pics of it’s parent to post. Thanks Jason

Great to see your trees again! Do you think that air layer just needs another cut and some more time? I think if you let the top grow wild the tree will put out roots everywhere it can.

I guess I could’ve re-wounded it & maybe I should’ve but I just sort of panicked. You think I should do that now?

@@bonedrybonsai4109 I'm no expert, but that's what I'd do. Lots of time to grow this year. It would make a nice little triple-trunk.
